Job description

Be the Operational Engine of the SUNSHINE Movement!

About SUNSHINE Charity

SUNSHINE is a new, 100% volunteer-powered movement rewriting the story of loneliness and wellbeing in London. We exist to spark joy, nurture belonging, and create spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and connected. Our work is bold, people-powered, and rooted in community spirit—not corporate jargon. We're almost ready to launch. Our charity status is imminent, our foundations are strong, and our first pilot programmes are on the horizon.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for our founding Volunteer Chief Operating Officer (COO)—a calm, organised, energising presence who can turn our ideas into real-world impact. As COO (Volunteer), you’ll be the operational backbone of SUNSHINE, helping our volunteer teams stay aligned, supported, and moving forward as we launch our first programmes.

This is a rare chance to help build a grassroots charity from the ground up—shaping systems, culture, and ways of working that feel human, warm, and accessible.

What You’ll Lead

  • Operational Leadership: Build simple, joyful, people-friendly systems that help our volunteer teams thrive.

  • Coordination & Delivery: Work closely with our volunteer leads (e.g., People & Culture, Services & Programmes, Fundraising & Partnerships) to keep projects flowing smoothly.

  • Problem-Solving: Spot gaps, unblock challenges, and keep us agile as we grow.

  • Culture & Care: Model our values of warmth, empathy, and connection—ensuring SUNSHINE always feels like a welcoming, uplifting place to volunteer.

  • Governance Support: Work with our Trustees and CEO to ensure we operate safely, ethically, and with integrity.

Ideally, You Will Bring

  • Experience in operations, project management, or organisational leadership.

  • A love for structure, clarity, and making things run smoothly.

  • A hands-on, “let’s make this happen” approach.

  • A genuine passion for tackling loneliness and improving wellbeing in our communities.

Commitment & Flexibility

This is a voluntary role with no fixed hours. We understand life comes first—your time and energy are gifts, and we’ll always work around your schedule. You can step back or stop volunteering at any time.

Interested?

If you’re excited by the idea of building a joyful, people-powered movement from the ground up, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch and we’ll send you a short application form.

This is your chance to leave a real fingerprint heart on the future of SUNSHINE.

Ready to Build Something Beautiful?

If you’re excited by the idea of helping launch a charity that puts warmth, belonging, and human connection at its core, we’d love to meet you.

Apply now on CharityJob.

Every heart leaves a mark. Let yours help launch SUNSHINE.
