DIGITAL INCLUSION & SKILLS LEAD (VOLUNTEER)

Help People Facing Loneliness Build Confidence With Technology — and Open the Door to Connection, Community & Opportunity

About SUNSHINE

SUNSHINE is a small but ambitious grassroots charity on a mission to reduce loneliness and help people feel truly seen, valued and connected. Every week, our volunteers bring warmth, joy and human connection to people who feel isolated, overlooked or alone.

For many people we support, digital skills are a barrier — to connection, to confidence, to accessing support, and sometimes even to feeling part of the modern world. As our Digital Inclusion & Skills Lead, you will help people overcome those barriers with patience, kindness and practical support.

Your work will help someone send their first email, join their first online group, or reconnect with family. Your leadership will help people feel capable, confident and included. Your presence will help SUNSHINE reach people who feel left behind.

What You’ll Be Doing

1. Leading Digital Inclusion Across SUNSHINE

  • Develop simple, friendly digital skills sessions for participants.

  • Support people with basic tasks like email, video calls, online forms and device use.

  • Create a warm, shame‑free environment where people can learn at their own pace.

2. Supporting People Facing Loneliness

  • Work with individuals who may feel anxious, embarrassed or overwhelmed by technology.

  • Offer patient, one‑to‑one guidance and encouragement.

  • Help people build confidence step by step.

3. Creating Accessible Digital Resources

  • Develop simple guides, checklists or how‑to sheets.

  • Ensure everything is written in clear, friendly, jargon‑free language.

  • Make digital learning feel easy, safe and empowering.

4. Training & Supporting Volunteers

  • Help volunteers feel confident supporting participants with digital basics.

  • Share tips, tools and simple approaches they can use.

  • Build a culture where digital inclusion is part of everyday support.

5. Helping SUNSHINE Grow Across London

  • Identify digital barriers that prevent people from joining our programmes.

  • Recommend tools, devices or approaches that increase accessibility.

  • Help shape a digital inclusion model that can expand across London and beyond.

This Role Is for You If…

  • You’re patient, friendly and love helping people learn.

  • You care deeply about loneliness, wellbeing and community.

  • You enjoy teaching digital basics in a warm, accessible way.

  • You’re comfortable supporting people who may feel nervous or unsure.

  • You’re based in or connected to London.

  • You want to help build a new charity from the ground up.

  • You want to grow your skills in digital inclusion, community learning or social impact.

Practical Details

  • Location: In‑person across London + some remote planning.

  • Time: Approx. 3-5 Hours per month (This is a fully flexible volunteer role with no set hours)

Why This Role Matters

Digital exclusion is one of the hidden drivers of loneliness. People feel embarrassed, left behind, or unable to access the support they need. Your kindness will help someone take their first step into confidence. Your guidance will help someone reconnect with the world. Your leadership will help SUNSHINE reach people who might otherwise stay invisible.

This is not just digital skills support. It’s empowerment. It’s connection. It’s dignity — restored through patience, care and human warmth.

How to Apply

Send a short note about why this role speaks to you and your CV. We review applications on a rolling basis — join us and help bring digital confidence, connection and SUNSHINE to people across London.
