Job description

VOLUNTEER HEAD OF PEOPLE & CULTURE

HELP SHAPE THE HEART OF SUNSHINE

London • Flexible Time • Hybrid Role

A people‑first leadership role for someone who believes culture is built through kindness, connection, and care.

SUNSHINE is getting ready to launch — our charity status is imminent, our foundations are in place, and our first pilot programmes are on the horizon. Now we’re looking for a warm, thoughtful, people‑centred leader to help shape the culture that will carry us into the world.

If you love people, believe in belonging, and have a heart of gold, this role has your name on it.

About SUNSHINE

SUNSHINE is London’s new volunteer‑powered movement for connection, belonging, and brighter days. Our symbol is a yellow fingerprint heart — because every person is unique, every story matters, and every act of kindness leaves a mark.

We’re building a charity that feels human, joyful, grassroots, and full of warmth — and we need someone who can help make SUNSHINE feel like home for every volunteer who joins us.

The ROLE

As our first-ever Volunteer Head of People and Culture, you’ll help create the heartbeat of SUNSHINE — the way we welcome people, support them, celebrate them, and help them shine.

You’ll help us:

  • Shape a warm, inclusive, human‑centred volunteer experience.
  • Finalise simple, friendly onboarding pathways.
  • Build a culture where every volunteer feels valued and seen.
  • Support wellbeing, safeguarding, and positive team dynamics.
  • Help prepare our people systems for the launch of our pilot programmes.
  • Create joyful, meaningful ways for volunteers to connect with each other.
  • Bring kindness, clarity, and care to everything we do.

This is a role for someone who loves people, understands culture, and knows how to build community from the inside out.

Who YOU ARE

You’re someone who lights up around people. You understand how to create environments where humans feel safe, supported, and able to shine.

You might be perfect if you:

  • Have experience in HR, people development, culture building, or volunteer management.
  • Love creating warm, welcoming, inclusive spaces.
  • Are great at listening, supporting, and bringing out the best in others.
  • Enjoy building simple, human‑friendly processes.
  • Want to help shape a charity that leads with heart.
  • Believe belonging is a basic human need.
  • Have a fingerprint heart that shines bright.

You don’t need to have been a Head of People before — just bring your experience, your empathy, and your sunshine.

What You’ll GET

  • A rare chance to shape the culture of a brand‑new charity.
  • A meaningful leadership role with real influence.
  • A close, collaborative partnership with the Founder and early team.
  • A joyful, human, values‑driven environment.
  • The chance to build something that feels warm, safe, and welcoming.
  • The pride of knowing you helped create a community where everyone belongs.

This is your opportunity to leave a real fingerprint heart on the soul of SUNSHINE.
