Job description

BE THE TEAM BUILDER: Volunteer Coordinator for SUNSHINE Charity Startup

Location: London/Hybrid (Flexible Hours, London-focused coordination)

Type: Unremunerated Volunteer Role (Support Team Leadership)

Commitment: Approx. 5+ hours per week (Flexible, high-contact role)

The Crisis We Face: Loneliness

Join us to fight the invisible epidemic. Chronic social isolation is not just sadness—it is a public health crisis with a mortality risk comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. At SUNSHINE, we are a passionate, 100% volunteer-run startup dedicated to providing a clear path back to connection for Londoners suffering from deep loneliness and digital exclusion.

We have the mission and the structure. Now, we need an inspiring Volunteer Coordinator to build the incredible team culture that makes SUNSHINE a remarkable place to give time and talent.

The Role: Volunteer Coordinator (Support Team Lead)

We are seeking a relational and dynamic Volunteer Coordinator to lead the entire volunteer lifecycle at SUNSHINE—from the first role advert to long-term appreciation. This role is paramount to our success, as our services depend entirely on the commitment, spirit, and skill of our volunteer force (both frontline and support).

You will be the heart of our organisation, ensuring every volunteer feels valued, supported, and unified by our common purpose.

Key Responsibilities for Launch & Growth:

  1. Recruitment & Onboarding: Design and manage the end-to-end recruitment process (advertising, screening, interviewing) for all roles (Trustees, PCs, CVs, Support Team). Deliver a warm, professional, and consistent onboarding experience.

  2. Team Culture & Retention: Pioneer an amazing, team-spirited volunteer programme. Implement strategies for high retention, including regular recognition, annual appreciation events, and fostering cross-team social connections.

  3. Training & Development: Collaborate with the Programme Lead to schedule and deliver high-quality, continuous training and development opportunities for volunteers, ensuring they are equipped for their roles and growing personally.

  4. Purpose & Ambassadors: Develop internal communications and activities that articulate the shared purpose and goals across all roles. Equip every volunteer to be a proud, knowledgeable ambassador for SUNSHINE in their community.

  5. Performance & Support: Establish a clear, supportive framework for volunteer management, ensuring regular check-ins, effective feedback mechanisms, and prompt resolution of any issues or conflicts.

Why Volunteer with SUNSHINE?

  • Maximum Impact: You are building the human capacity that delivers the mission. Your success directly influences the confidence and effectiveness of every volunteer who supports our participants.

  • Culture Architect: This is an opportunity to design a volunteering programme that reflects your passion for people management. You will define the culture of our young charity, setting the standard for how volunteers should be treated.

  • The Mission: By ensuring our volunteers are trained, supported, and valued, you guarantee that the support offered to lonely Londoners is consistent, empathetic, and professional.

Who We're Looking For

You are a professional with significant experience in Human Resources, Volunteer Management, Learning & Development, or Community Organising. You must possess exceptional interpersonal skills, a natural ability to motivate teams, and a proven track record of creating positive, engaging work or volunteer environments. A deep commitment to valuing every individual’s contribution is essential.

If you believe that a unified, passionate volunteer team is the most powerful force for change, and you are ready to be the heart of our organization, we want to hear from you.

APPLY NOW and help us build the amazing volunteer community that fuels SUNSHINE.
