Job description

We're looking for an exception Volunteering Programme Manager, who can build our volunteering programme and recruit and bring in amazing people to volunteer and become part of the SUNSHINE family.

SUNSHINE is a start-up grassroots, heart‑led London charity dedicated to tackling loneliness with warmth, dignity, and joy. We will create uplifting community spaces where people feel seen, valued, and connected — and now we’re ready to grow our volunteer family.

If you believe that great charities are built on great people, this is your moment.

Why This Role Matters

Every act of kindness at SUNSHINE begins with a volunteer. Every workshop, every conversation, every moment of connection is made possible by people who give their time with love.

Your leadership will create the systems, culture, and community that allow those volunteers to thrive.

This is your chance to build the beating heart of a young, ambitious charity — from the ground up.

What You’ll Lead

As our Volunteering Programme Manager, you will:

  • Design and launch SUNSHINE’s volunteering programme, from structure to strategy.

  • Build an organisational culture rooted in team spirit, shared purpose, and kindness.

  • Lead volunteer recruitment, attracting people who embody SUNSHINE’s warmth and mission.

  • Create a joyful, supportive onboarding journey that makes every volunteer feel valued.

  • Develop retention strategies, ensuring volunteers feel appreciated, connected, and inspired.

  • Establish simple, effective HR/Volunteer Management processes that support a safe, inclusive, and thriving environment.

  • Champion wellbeing, inclusion, and community across the whole organisation.

  • Shape the future of SUNSHINE, helping us grow with integrity and heart.

Who We’re Looking For

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

  • Have experience in HR, volunteering, people management, or community leadership.

  • Love building teams, nurturing culture, and helping people flourish.

  • Are organised, warm, and passionate about creating positive volunteer experiences.

  • Understand (or are keen to learn) charity HR and volunteer management best practice.

  • Care deeply about community, connection, and wellbeing.

  • Want to help build a charity that feels like a family.

  • Believe that loneliness can be challenged — and that volunteers are the key.

What You’ll Gain

  • A meaningful leadership role shaping the future of a growing grassroots charity.

  • The chance to build a volunteer community that transforms lives.

  • A supportive Board who values your voice, creativity, and expertise.

  • The joy of seeing people flourish because of the systems and culture you create.

  • The opportunity to build something lasting, hopeful, and beautiful.

Help Us Build a Volunteer Community That Brings SUNSHINE to London

If you’re ready to use your HR and people‑leadership skills to uplift communities, strengthen a young charity, and help people feel less alone, we would be honoured to welcome you.

Together, we can help London shine brighter.
