REMIX is a dynamic new start-up youth charity launching to transform the lives of young people aged 11-26 from disadvantaged areas of London, initially starting in Hackney, Tower Hamlets, and Southwark. We will deliver high-impact Mentoring, Life Skills, and Personal Development programmes because we believe that a young persons postcode should never dictate their potential.
We have a clear mission, a strong name, and a dedicated Founding Board of Trustees. We now need the entrepreneurial drive and steady hand of a volunteer who can fill this brand new role of Project Director to bring our vision to life.
The Role: Steer, Guide, and Direct REMIX
This is a high-visibility, high-impact leadership role, perfect for a proven Project Manager or leader with an entrepreneurial mindset, who is passionate about social change. You will act as the interim, unpaid operational lead for the launch, ensuring all elements of the start-up phase are managed and delivered effectively.
The Project Director will report directly to the Founding Board of Trustees and be responsible for the successful set-up, initial programme delivery, and transition planning for the charity.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Operational Leadership: Manage the day-to-day work required for the charity's launch, treating REMIX like a mission-driven start-up.
-
Project Management: Oversee and coordinate all key start-up workstreams, including:
-
Finalising charity registration and legal processes.
-
Implementing volunteer recruitment and onboarding systems (working closely with the Volunteer HR/Volunteering Programme Lead).
-
Coordinating the development of programme content (Mentoring, Life Skills and Personal Development).
-
Managing initial communications and brand launch activities.
-
-
People & Volunteer Management: Be the principal point of contact and inspiring leader for all founding volunteers (Trustees excluded), fostering a positive, action-oriented, and collaborative team culture.
-
Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the operational face of REMIX, building relationships with initial community partners, potential funders, and key stakeholders in Hackney, Tower Hamlets, and Southwark.
-
Reporting: Provide regular, concise operational and risk reports to the Board of Trustees, ensuring alignment between strategic goals and operational reality.
What We Are Looking For
-
Proven Leadership: Demonstrable experience (5+ years) in a senior project management, operational leadership, or directorial role, ideally within the non-profit, education, or start-up sector.
-
Entrepreneurial Drive: A self-starter with a proactive, resourceful, and results-focused attitude. Must be comfortable steering a ship with no to limited initial resources.
-
Exceptional People Skills: A natural leader and motivator who can build trust, delegate effectively, and inspire a team of passionate, remote and site based volunteers.
-
Strategic & Organised: Proven ability to manage complex project plans, prioritise effectively, and deliver multiple deliverables under pressure.
-
Commitment to Mission: An unwavering passion for youth social mobility and a deep understanding of the challenges facing young people in London's deprived areas.
Why Lead REMIX?
-
Total Ownership: This is your chance to lead the launch of a significant new organisation and directly shape its success from the ground up.
-
High Impact: Your leadership will be the catalyst that gets our programmes running, directly leading to life-changing results for young Londoners.
-
Career Catalyst: A unique and highly valuable project to add to your portfolio, demonstrating entrepreneurial leadership in the social sector.
-
Future Opportunity: Outstanding performance in this founding, voluntary capacity could lead to consideration for future senior paid roles within the charity as funding is secured.

Whether you’re a jobseeker interested in a career in construction or woodwork, a student or recent college graduate seeking experience, or just someone with spare time on your hands, wanting to do something positive and meet new people, volunteering with the Touch Wood project at EMERGE 3Rs may be just the ticket!
Touch Wood is a wood recycling and upcycling initiative, which collects surplus and waste wood and timber and gives it a new lease of life, preventing it from being burned, chipped, or dumped in landfill.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Preparing wood for resale
* Assisting with the construction of wooden products, from small household items to pieces of furniture
Our Touch Wood volunteers are able to gain skills in practical woodworking, as we offer hands-on experience of working with reclaimed timber; from making basic lumber products ready for resale, through to assisting with the creation of bespoke items, such as kitchen equipment and home and garden furniture.
Full training in woodworking and health and safety is provided, along with Personal Protection Equipment.
The UK generates around 5 million tonnes of wood waste every year, but less than 1% is reused. Touch Wood rescues waste timber that would otherwise be landfilled or turned into woodchip; creating jobs and training opportunities for disadvantaged local people at the same time. We collect from construction sites, industrial estates and other commercial sources, reclaiming everything from pallets to indoor cycle tracks – you name it, we take it! Anything we can’t reuse is locally recycled, so nothing goes to waste. This reduces the carbon emissions associated with disposing of waste wood, offers cost savings for DIY enthusiasts, and provides training and job potential to volunteers in the workshop. Some of the timber we work with comes from high profile sources, including the entire track of the Manchester Velodrome cycling centre and wood removed in the recent refurbishment of Manchester’s historic Town Hall!
Our skilled team of staff and volunteers often use reclaimed timber to create beautiful and practical products, such as home and garden furniture. We regularly create bespoke pieces to order; some of it for famous clients like Olympic cycling champions Jason and Laura Kenny, for whom we made a table from the Manchester Velodrome track.
Please be advised that our volunteers require a fair level of physical fitness and manual dexterity as the role is entirely practical.
Our Touch Wood workshop and wood store is open Mon-Fri, 8.30am - 4pm.
We occupy a unit at Maynard House, inside New Smithfield Market, in Openshaw, North Manchester, which is accessed from the main entrance on Whitworth Street East (off Ashton Old Road). The site is served well by buses, and we have free parking onsite, as well as secure storage racks for pushbikes.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must be resident in the UK and living in Greater Manchester, or within easy commuting distance of our base, in order to volunteer with us. There are no exceptions to this rule. This is because we require volunteers to be able to reliably commit to regular shifts for some of our roles. We are unable to offer sponsorship for overseas applicants.
Know someone else who might be interested in volunteering with us?
Please pass our details on to them as we always welcome new people on our teams. :)

We are seeking people from a variety of backgrounds to join our Policy Approval Panel. The purpose of the panel is to support the Workforce Professional Development Boards (WPDBs) by applying the appropriate scrutiny to the development and review of workforce policies developed by the sport and physical sector supported by CIMSPA.
The Policy Approval Panel will check whether the due process has been followed in the development and review of sector workforce policies such as professional standards, standards for deployment and apprenticeship standards. It will also check the accuracy of said policies, ensuring that anything issued to the WPDBs for approval is accurate and fit for purpose.
It is anticipated that the panel will meet three times per year ahead of the WPDB meetings but if there are no policies for approval of the board, the meeting will not be held.
An initial induction/standardisation meeting will be held in person, thereafter meetings will be held remotely with papers issued for review ahead of the meeting.

We are seeking a new Chair for the Scottish Workforce Professional Development Board (WPDB). The group has been working for five years to deliver their skills plan for Scotland, and is well established with 12 members from a variety of different stakeholders in Scotland, including employers, education providers and government agencies.
The UK WPDB is the lead on workforce policy, with a vision of growing the attractiveness of working in the sport and physical activity sector and of ensuring that all customers and consumers have a safe and excellent experience. The Scottish WPDB was established to ensure the successful delivery of UK-wide workforce policy and strategy within Scotland, reflecting the significant differences between each of the home nations in areas such as legal systems, education policy, funding, delivery infrastructure and career pathways. It has the flexibility to operate in line with the Scottish policies and priorities.
