The Bromley Trust is a specialist grant-maker which supports UK charities working with people seeking sanctuary and people in prison. We are looking for someone with experience of managing large scale long-term investments to join us and take over from our retiring Investment Lead Trustee. They will play a central role in overseeing the Trust’s investment strategy and its implementation, alongside the other Trustees, and work closely with the Director, Treasurer and our Investment Managers. 

Collectively Trustees share responsibility for governing the organisation and directing how it is managed and run. We are looking for people who have have an enthusiasm for our areas of interest (human rights / prison reform), good strategic thinking skills, sound judgement, and the ability to work effectively as a member of a small friendly team. You don’t need to have previous experience of being a trustee as a full induction will be provided.

About the role

As a Trustee, you will play a vital part in ensuring Crisis remains well governed, financially sustainable, and focused on achieving its mission.

Alongside the statutory responsibilities of being a trustee, you will bring specialist financial expertise to the Board and co-chair our Finance, Audit and Risk Committee. You will also contribute to oversight of our growing housing delivery function through membership of the relevant committee.

Working alongside fellow trustees and senior leaders, you will help shape long-term strategy, scrutinise performance, oversee risk, and ensure the organisation remains accountable, transparent and financially strong.

We are looking for someone with:

• Significant senior leadership experience with responsibility for organisational finances.
• The ability to interpret complex financial information and assess the longer-term financial implications of strategic decisions.
• Experience of organisational governance, either as a trustee, non-executive director or member of a senior leadership team. Experience of chairing or serving on a Finance, Audit or Risk Committee.
• Strong understanding of financial risk management, audit, compliance, internal controls and organisational sustainability.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• A commitment to collaborative governance and collective decision-making.
• A genuine passion for Crisis' mission and a determination to help end homelessness.
• Knowledge of charity accounting (SORP) and Charity Commission requirements is desirable but not essential.
• ACA, ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW or equivalent accounting qualification desirable but not essential.

Remuneration

This is a voluntary, unremunerated trustee role.

Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. We are also committed to removing barriers to participation and may consider support where loss of earnings would otherwise prevent involvement.

Term of appointment

Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term, with the opportunity to be reappointed for a second term.

Specialist Expertise Sought

In addition to the general requirements above, we are particularly seeking candidates who can bring expertise in one or more of the following areas:

1. Charity Governance

• In-depth knowledge of charity governance best practice, preferably gained through prior trustee, board, or senior charity leadership experience.

• Understanding of regulatory compliance and governance frameworks for UK charities.

• Legal skills relating to charity law, contracts, risk management, or related fields (desirable).

2. Charity Fundraising

Experience and understanding of charity fundraising, with particular relevance to EA-aligned funding environments.

Knowledge of campaigning and advocacy within animal protection movements, with a particular focus on farmed animals.

• Understanding of the strategic landscape of farmed animal protection, including corporate campaigns, legislative advocacy, public engagement, and movement priorities.

• Experience of designing, advising on, or evaluating campaigns that seek measurable improvements for farmed animals.

• Awareness of the wider animal protection movement, including key organisations, campaign tactics, risks, and opportunities for collaboration.

• Scientific or veterinarian understanding and experience with farmed animals (desirable).

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute actively to the Board’s role in giving strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining goals, and evaluating performance.

This is a voluntary, non-executive governance role with a time commitment of just 2 to 3 hours per month. As Finance Trustee, you will Chair our Finance and Fundraising Sub-Committee, providing board-level oversight of LAH's financial health: reviewing management accounts, scrutinising budgets and forecasts, ensuring our financial controls are robust, and supporting the wider Board of Trustees at Latin American House to understand financial risk and sustainability.

You will work closely with LAH Director and finance team, contributing to the approval of annual accounts and budgets, and ensuring we meet our Charity Commission and Companies House obligations.

This is strategic oversight, not day-to-day operations - the hands-on finance work stays with our staff.

We are seeking to appoint new Trustees to become actively involved in the strategic direction, governance and decision making of the charity.  As a Trustee you will join a dynamic and supportive team committed to making a difference to people affected by cancer.  With a new, incoming Chair, this is an exciting time to join the Board as it works toward shaping the charity’s future.  The role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact while providing a rewarding and satisfying experience that enables personal development and growth.

Healthcare
Medical Practitioners or Allied Health Professionals with recent experience of working with cancer patients/or cancer treatment, ideally within the NHS.

Commercial
The Penny Brohn UK National Centre offers external organisations a unique environment for their own business use which includes daily and residential bookings as well as tenancy agreements.  Due to a successful period of growth in recent years, the charity would welcome the expertise of a Trustee with significant experience in this area who can support the development of this income stream further.

Support for new Trustees
New Trustees are fully supported through a planned induction into the organisation, starting with an introduction to each area of the Charity.

Time commitment
The Trustee Board meet four times in-person each year at the National Centre in Bristol on Fridays, generally between 9am – 4pm.  Trustee representation is also required on one or two online sub-committees, which are held up to four times per year for each committee and Trustees will be appointed to the sub-committees once recruited into post in accordance with their relevant skills and experience.  Attendance is also required for the AGM and an annual Trustee Away Day as well as occasional events or strategic discussions

Attendance at Key Events
As ambassadors for the Charity, the Trustee Board is encouraged to ensure that there is Trustee representation at key events throughout the calendar year such as fundraising, networking and other high-profile events.

Tenure
Trustees are appointed for a three-year term with a maximum appointment of four terms (12 years).

 Expenses
All Trustees are eligible to be reimbursed for expenses incurred whilst on Board business, this includes attendance at Board Meetings.  Eligible expenses include:

• Reimbursement of petrol costs, rate currently set at 45p per mile, (15p per mile after 500 miles incurred annually) or the equivalent 2nd class rail fare, whichever is the lower.
• Any car parking fees associated with the travel.

We are seeking two enthusiastic and committed individuals to serve on our Board. This is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious organisation working at the intersection of law, campaigning and social justice. As a Trustee, you will help shape the future of PILC, ensuring that we remain true to our purpose while continuing to deliver meaningful impact for the communities we serve.

We are committed to developing and maintaining a Board that is as inclusive as possible and representative of the communities we work alongside. Therefore, having lived experience in an area of our work would be advantageous. We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, recognising that a diverse Board strengthens discussion, improves decision-making and helps us better fulfil our mission.

We are particularly interested in applications from individuals who have legal expertise (ideally in the non-profit sector), or expertise in Human Resources or Finance.

As a member of the Board of Trustees, you will oversee the strategic direction, governance and financial sustainability of the organisation. You will help ensure that PILC has a clear strategy, that its resources are used effectively, and that its activities remain aligned with its charitable objectives and values. You will also provide constructive support and challenge to the Senior Management Team, helping the organisation to develop, grow and achieve its mission.

Trustees have collective responsibility for the governance of the charity. This means that decisions are made collectively by the Board and trustees share responsibility for those decisions, always acting in the best interests of PILC.

Please note that this is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. The time commitment for this role is approximately 8-10 days per annum. The Board meets online on the 3rd Monday of every other month from 6-8pm and trustees are required to attend with their cameras on. All Board papers are circulated usually 2 weeks ahead of the meeting. All applicants must be based in the U.K. 

Duties
As a Trustee, you will be expected to:
• Attend bi-monthly Board meetings (held remotely), having read the papers in advance and being prepared to contribute constructively to discussion and decision-making.
• Attend the annual Board away day and Annual General Meeting (AGM).
• Support, promote and provide advice on PILC’s charitable purpose, vision, values and strategic objectives.
• Approve operational strategies, policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
• Oversee PILC’s financial sustainability by reviewing and approving budgets, PILC’s financial statements and monitoring and evaluating financial performance.
• Ensure that the charity is well governed, effectively managed and compliant with its legal and regulatory obligations.
• Support the effective management of risk and ensure that appropriate systems of internal control are in place.
• Provide appropriate support, constructive challenge and accountability to the Director in the exercise of their delegated authority.
• Keep informed about developments affecting PILC, the non-profit legal sector and the wider operating environment.
• Contribute to the regular review and continuous improvement of the Board's effectiveness and governance arrangements.
• Exercise independent judgement, act with reasonable care and skill, and always act in good faith in the best interests of PILC’s, managing any actual or potential conflicts of interest appropriately.
• Act as an ambassador for PILC, promoting its work and using your skills, knowledge, experience and networks to support the organisation where appropriate.

We're seeking a trustee with experience in arts, culture, philanthropy or charity governance to complete the board of a new international arts charity supporting emerging artists. As a trustee you'll play an essential role in shaping the early direction of ellipse art projects UK and helping us open new opportunities for emerging artists from Southeast Asia, Africa, in the UK.

This year, we're launching our UK charity alongside our existing French endowment fund, submitting our registration to the Charity Commission, and preparing our first major partnership with a cultural non profit organisation in London. The board will lead these foundational decisions. For this reason, we're looking for a trustee with experience in UK charity governance, ideally in the arts or culture sector. If you have set up or grown a UK charity before, even better.

Our board is intentionally small: three to four trustees, meeting two to three times per year (in person or online). We are just starting out and hoping to build a friendly, engaged and collaborative board, one that combines the strategic ambition of our founders with the calm, informed guidance of experienced trustees like you.

The mandate is three years, renewable.

About Cygnus Support

Cygnus Support is a local charity dedicated to improving the mental health and emotional wellbeing of people across Northumberland. We empower people to improve their lives by providing counselling, education and support in their local community.

At a time when demand for mental health and wellbeing support remains high, our work is more important than ever. We are seeking new trustees who can help us strengthen our charity, guide our future direction and ensure we continue to deliver the strongest possible support for the people who need us most.

You will be joining a well-respected mental health and wellbeing charity made up of a small team of friendly staff, volunteers and board of trustees who are all passionate and committed to making a difference to peoples’ lives.

The Opportunity

We are looking for people to join our Board of Trustees and support the leadership of Cygnus Support as we shape the next stage of our charity’s development. As a trustee, you will work with fellow board members and the senior team to provide strategic direction, good governance and constructive challenge.

This is a rewarding voluntary role for someone who wants to make a meaningful contribution to their local community and play a part in improving access to mental health and wellbeing support.

· Help set and review the strategic direction of the organisation.

· Ensure the charity is well governed, financially responsible and compliant with its legal and charitable responsibilities.

· Use your skills, insight and experience to contribute to board discussions and decision-making.

· Support the senior team to identify opportunities, manage risks and strengthen services.

· Champion the needs of the people and communities we support.

· Act as an ambassador for Cygnus Support and its values.

Who We Are Looking For

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences. You do not need previous trustee experience to apply; what matters most is your commitment to our mission, your willingness to work collaboratively and your ability to think strategically and help us grow.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people who can bring expertise or experience in one or more of the following areas:

· Fundraising and income generation

· Charity governance & secretarial support

· Commissioning

· Marketing

· Online service delivery

· Volunteer engagement and support

· Health and wellbeing services, including lived experience, service delivery or service-user insight

Time Commitment

Trustees are expected to attend Board meetings every eight weeks. Meetings are currently held online, although there may be a need to meet in person in and meetings usually last approximately two hours. Trustees may also be asked to contribute to occasional discussions, emails or focused pieces of work between meetings.
