What is The PressPad Charitable Foundation?
The PressPad Charitable Foundation is an organisation founded in 2021 to improve social mobility in the media.
We created this organisation to work alongside, and not in place of, the pre-existing social enterprise PressPad Ltd founded by Olivia Crellin in 2018.
It was following great interest from multiple donors that we decided to create a hybrid structure with clear governance, oversight and transparency in both organisations to best carry out our mission and purpose. The foundation will allow charitable activities carried out by the social enterprise previously (including PressPad Remote) to be funded for by grants and donations, and overseen by a board of trustees.
The existence of the charitable foundation will also better enable us to pass on funding to smaller and more niche organisations whose missions align with ours in order to strengthen and raise up other organisations to join a coalition of projects working in this space.

-
Support the organisation to assess areas of legal risk.

-
To review and provide guidance on contracts and service agreements.
-

-
Ability to develop and review policy documents
-
Ability to develop and review contractual documents
-
A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
-
A willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis: as a small charity, we would benefit from support in between meetings with assistance on any contracts the charity has to sign or other legal input.
-
Strategic vision
-
Good, independent judgement
-
An ability to think creatively
-
A willingness to speak their mind
-

Please visit our website to find out more about what we do.
"OTR is by far the best place I have ever worked; it has enriched my understanding of not only young people's mental health, but systemic and structural inequalities that influence the way we all experience good and bad wellbeing, and what we can do to change this. OTR is a supportive, diverse group of creative and thoughtful professionals, and best of all it provides opportunities to work alongside and empower young people" - Member of the OTR team
About the Role
OTR is currently creating a brand new three-year strategy, setting out an exciting vision to support, promote and defend the mental health, rights and social position of young people. This follows a period of organisational growth, where expanding services into the North Somerset region, and working in partnership with the local statutory mental health provider, has increased our staffing to over 100 employees.
OTR currently has a team of Trustees with a wealth of skills and experience. Trustees meet at quarterly board meetings to provide governance and stewardship and drive the charity forward to achieve its organisational objectives - and ultimately provide the best possible services for young people.
As the Chair of Trustees, you will be passionate and motivated, with charity experience and excellent leadership skills to support the board. You will demonstrate a commitment to empowering young people and developing OTR organisationally, supporting the CEO to implement the new strategy.

- people from equalities groups and people of colour
- those with legal and/or HR experience
- those with corporate/business experience
- experienced charity trustees with governance and finance experience

At OTR, a prerequisite and condition of any position in our organisation is a willingness to work with difference. Whatever your role or professional background, you will be expected to work across different categories of ethnicity, race, social class, disability, faith, gender and sexual diversity. We take this bit seriously, so our promise to you is that we will encourage, support and develop your capability in working trans-culturally and with difference while you are with us.
OTR is fully committed to creating a culture in which diversity, equality of opportunity and equity are promoted actively and in which unlawful discrimination - direct or indirect - is not tolerated. OTR recognises the benefits to individual practice and organisational credibility of having a diverse community of staff and volunteers and to this end is continually working towards building and maintaining an environment which values and pursues diversity accordingly.
We recognise that tackling systemic inequality, prejudice, racism and oppressive practice requires each of us to actively engage, self-examine and make changes where necessary, in order to improve access and equitable experience for all in society and all of those who come through our doors at OTR.

Do you want a strategic role to tackle the poverty that so many of us are experiencing in the UK?
Turn2us helps people in financial need gain access to welfare benefits, charitable grants and other financial help – online, by phone and face to face through our partner organisations. We believe any of our lives can be turned upside down because of an illness, job loss or relationship breakdown. But too often we see these life events trap people in poverty. We want to stop people being swept into poverty and give practical help to anyone already struggling to cope. We help people find financial support such as welfare benefits, charitable grants and other support so that they can get their lives back on track. We seek to challenge the structural inequalities which help to create poverty in the UK.
We are seeking two new board members to engage in the governance and oversight of the charity and to contribute to the development of our board of trustees. We want imaginative and problem-solving people, people who are not afraid to speak up when something feels wrong and people who will ask when they need something. You do not need to have served on a board before as we will provide you with full support and training.
The diversity of our board is critical to the organisation’s success. We are particularly keen to hear from disabled people, people from the LGBTQ+ community and those from minoritised ethnic communities. We would also like to appoint from people with lived experience of financial exclusion.
Interviews will be conducted week commencing 26 September at our offices in Hammersmith, London W6.

We are My CWA, formerly known as Cheshire Without Abuse - a Cheshire-based charity supporting families affected by domestic abuse. We believe in building a community where adults and children live free from the fear of domestic abuse. For over 40 years, our team has worked tirelessly towards this vision.
Join our passionate Board of Trustees and bring positive impact to the lives of people affected by domestic abuse across Cheshire.
What will you be doing?
As a Trustee of My CWA, you will provide leadership and direction for the organisation, including:
- Taking overall legal responsibility for the charity's work.
- Acting in the best interests of the charity.
- Delegating day to day tasks to staff and volunteers.

- Ensure everything is legal and safe.
- Support the manager, staff and volunteers.
- Ensure the work of the charity is carried out.
- Ensure you as trustees are up to date and skilled to do your job.
What are we looking for?
Trustee boards need all kinds of skills to govern effectively. It isn’t necessary for you to have a deep understanding of domestic abuse, although a commitment to the issues affecting families is important. My CWA is looking for any of the following:
- The 'hard' skills - legal, financial, management and so on - which are necessary to understand some of the complex decisions to be taken.
- The 'soft' skills - boards of trustees need people who can encourage team working, problem solving, asking difficult questions, decision making and, yes, making people laugh!
- Different experiences and perspectives - charities increasingly need to be more responsive to the communities they serve. Trustees should bring in diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
- Values - trustees have an important duty and all should be able to demonstrate basic values such as honesty and integrity.
What difference will you make?
- You are at the centre of the action, helping to decide things which matter.
- You can help support your community - ensure the services the charity provides meet the needs of the people they are serving.
- You can put your skills and experience to good use, to benefit your community or to provide better services for people who need them.

The Myrovlytis Trust is a charity founded in 2007 to promote research into rare diseases and advance education of the public in medical and molecular genetics.
By providing information and support to patients, raising awareness among clinicians and the public and strategically funding research, the Myrovlytis Trust aims to transform the outlook for rare diseases. With an initial focus on two conditions (Birt-Hogg-Dubé Syndrome and osteosarcoma), we fund research directed towards new treatments. We want to ensure that patients gain access to the same state-of-the-art technologies, breakthroughs and therapies as those with more common diseases, and work collaboratively with a variety of organisations to achieve this.
The Trust incorporates both the BHD Foundation and Osteosarcoma Now.
We have funded more than £6 million in research grants to laboratories around the world.
We are in a period of reinvigorating the charity, with a new business plan in place along with a new staff team who are committed to the direction the charity is taking.
We are seeking to appoint new Trustees who have the experience to promote the charity’s vision, mission, and goals, and assist with strategy development to ensure the charity meets its financial, legal and governance obligations.
Candidates should be aligned to the ethos of the charity and be keen to contribute their expertise to provide governance and support. We would love to hear from people with a variety of backgrounds to help us develop a diverse board. A scientific or medical background is not essential. We are particularly interested to hear from individuals with skills in finance, HR, law (in particular intellectual property), fundraising, scientific research, as well as those with lived experience of a rare disease.
This is an exciting time to be joining a small but agile charity with big plans to expand their remit in the world of rare diseases.

Raising Futures Kenya is looking for a talented, experienced and enthusiastic marketing and communications professional to join our Board, to guide and advise the charity in developing and implementing a realistic digital marketing and communications strategy.
About Raising Futures Kenya
For 21 years Raising Futures Kenya (UK charity no.1181670) has worked alongside local people in Kenya to develop projects which are owned by the community and create long-term, sustainable change to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods.
Through our Seed of Hope training and support programme we enable 14-25 year olds (75% girls) to secure employment or start a small business, generating enough income to live above the poverty line. We provide free technical vocational and business skills training, alongside mental health and wellbeing support which has led to over 90% of graduates being in employment, self-employment or further education. Seed of Hope offers young people opportunity, dignity and hope.
Role Summary
We’re a small charity with a big impact. We need to develop a marketing and communications strategy, which is feasible to implement for a charity of our size and resources, that showcases the impact we have empowering young people to build secure futures, free from poverty.
We’re 21 years old this year and many of our supporters have been with us from the beginning, when our founders set the charity up. We need a strategy to reach new supporters, new donors and to harness the potential of digital marketing to reach those new audiences but also to nurture and grow the relationships we have with our existing supporters.
We will have a Radio 4 Appeal in February 2023 and need to maximise the opportunity to reach a new audience and new supporters, this will form a bit part of your role initially in supporting this.
The Marketing and Communications Trustee will work closely with our UK team members, members of the Kenya team (mainly by email) and with the Board of Trustees, advising on all marketing and communications. The Trustee will be expected to attend, and contribute to, Board meetings and AGM, which last approximately an hour and a half every 6-8 weeks.
Key responsibilities include;
-
Using professional experience and expertise to develop a digital marketing and communications strategy and implementation plan.
-
Supporting the staff team with the implementation of the strategy, whether that be through practical advice and hands-on support or helping to recruit and train volunteers to implement aspects of it.
-
Provide advice and guidance on developing a suite of digital marketing and communication tools and materials including impact stories, increasing and tracking engagement on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn), maximising the potential of our mailing list through increased sign ups, automations and segmentation etc.
-
Develop a marketing and communications action plan specifically for our Radio 4 Appeal in Feb 2023 to increase the audience of people listening to it.
-
Optimising our website and SEO, particularly looking at a Google Ad grant and how we can manage that - whether that is you bringing those skills or helping to recruit a specific volunteer with these skills to manage a Google Ad grant and advise on optimising our website.
-
Actively participate as a key member of the Board of Trustees.
-
Act as an ambassador for Raising Futures Kenya, representing the charity at meetings and facilitating networking and funding opportunities as these arise.
-
All Trustees have an element of responsibility for fundraising, whether that be utilising your own network for funding opportunities or supporting fundraising initiatives.
We will consider someone joining us as a Digital Marketing and Communications Advisor if you would prefer to focus on that single area, rather than becoming a full Trustee.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have innovative ideas, professional industry knowledge and lots of enthusiasm! All Trustees are expected to assist Raising Futures Kenya to secure a sustainable and diverse funding base for the organisation. Due to the way in which we encourage students to seek job opportunities and create businesses where job opportunities do not exist, we are particularly interested in candidates who think outside of the box and have entrepreneurial spirit.
We are committed to a culture of inclusivity. We are able to grow and learn better if we have a diverse organisation formed of the collective sum of individual differences, lived experiences, knowledge and self-expression. We don’t want to exist in an echo chamber. In recruiting for our team we welcome the unique perspectives you can bring in terms of culture, education, opinions, ethnicity, race, sex, gender identity, values, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, beliefs, nation of origin and languages spoken.

Desirable:
-
Knowledge and experience of charity marketing and comms.
-
Knowledge and experience of international development, particularly in education or young people or programmes in Kenya.

Normally Trustees are asked to commit to a 3-year term on the Board and serve for a maximum of 2 terms. All appointments are subject to completion of a successful 3 month probationary period.
Passion for the cause is our number one recruitment factor, so if you’re interested in coming on board please get in touch.
We are an aspirational charity achieving real change in the lives of the young people we work alongside. When we asked Rebecca, one of our January 2020 graduates, what the Seed of Hope programme had done for her, she said:

I am now empowered with knowledge and skills thanks to Seed of Hope for this opportunity that has changed me to a better daughter, wife and mother. National Ugly Mugs (NUM) are seeking people with a passion for sex workers’ rights and safety to join our Board of Trustees.
NUM is a UK-wide charity providing victim/survivor support and violence prevention services to sex workers, as a means to ensure greater access to justice and protection. We serve sex workers of all genders, backgrounds and modes of work. We offer a digital reporting and alerting mechanism to warn sex workers about dangerous individuals who may target them; online screening tools; and individualised support for those who experience harm from a specialist team of Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVA) and other experts. We run a wellbeing drop in service in Glasgow and are currently developing support services for people leaving sex work. We value those with lived experience in sex industries and work with them to conduct research, develop education packages to professionals, and participate in policy advocacy to change the conditions that lead to survival sex, gain rights and recognition, and improve the safety of UK-based sex workers.
Trustees at NUM play a vital role in helping us fulfil our core mission of ending all forms of violence against sex workers. They support NUM as an organisation and the members of the NUM team by providing support, advice and guidance through our day-to-day operations and the overall strategic vision of the charity. Some of that takes place at quarterly trustee meetings, where the CEO reports on NUM’s work, and brings decisions and choices to the board for discussion and advice, and some of that takes place day-to-day, when individual trustees have skills or experience that can support individual team members, and have the time to take a support or mentoring role. Our current trustees bring with them a wide range of experience from academia, entertainment, finance and other aspects of the third sector.
Some things that the board does are legally required – for example they supervise the writing of an annual report on the charity’s work, and are required to approve that report. They also regularly review the risks that the charity is exposed to, and the state of the charity’s finances. Overall, they are required to check that the charity is complying with the relevant laws, and is focused on achieving its charitable objects – the aims the charity was founded to achieve.
Trustee roles are voluntary positions. However, NUM will pay for any reasonable expenses incurred as part of the role.
Who we’re looking for
The most important thing is that you believe in NUM’s work and want to join us to help us continue this! We are looking for people who are willing to volunteer their time to shape our practice and our services, and guide the charity as we continue to meet the needs of sex workers across the UK.
We are looking for people who have some experience in leadership or governance and finance, particularly as part of the third sector. This may be through other Trustee positions, or through management positions within third sector organisations. We are looking for people who understand the nature of work within a charity and can bring with them their ideas and expertise to support NUM’s work.
Other skills and attributes that we would like from any prospective trustees are:
-
A strong commitment to the mission and core values of NUM
-
A high degree of integrity
-
The ability to think strategically and plan for the future with good judgement
-
Critical thinking skills
-
Creativity
-
The ability to work well as part of a team to collectively make decisions surrounding NUM’s future work, vision and strategy
-
A willingness to undertake any necessary training
-
An understanding of safeguarding
-
An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of being a charity trustee
We are keen to receive applications from people of colour; disabled people; LGBTQ+ people; people who identify as working class; and those who have past or present sex work experience.
We are also particularly keen for one of the new post holders to have experience in finance, such as in financial management or grant funding.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of trustees at NUM include:
-
Attend four regular board meetings a year (online and/or in person)
-
Advise on, and help develop, organisational strategy and delivery, including policies that fall within your expertise
-
Ensure compliance with governing documents and the law
-
Ensure accountability to funders, NUM members and wider movement
-
Maintain proper fiscal oversight, signing off and scrutinising reporting against budgets
-
Oversee the management of risks to NUM’s funding, reputation and delivery
-
Exemplify NUM’s values and culture through ways of working and interacting
-
Maintain effective board performance (including appointing new board members)
-
Effectively work with, and respect the expertise of the NUM staff and volunteer team
Ultimately, the key responsibility of a trustee is to help NUM work towards its vision, purpose and goals, and to help shape these.
We ask that all applicants be able to meet the minimum time requirements for the role in attending quarterly meetings, with some degree of responsiveness between these.
The standard length of time to hold a Trustee position is 3 years.

We are seeking to recruit a trustee who shares our commitment to Somerset, bringing their energy, knowledge and skills to help us deliver our mission. This voluntary position offers a fulfilling experience and is a crucially important role in helping Somerset’s local charities, community groups and social enterprises thrive.
We aim to maintain a Board with the range of skills and experience necessary to support delivery of our mission. In anticipation of the retirement of a trustee this October, we are currently seeking to appoint someone with the knowledge and skills to shape and support our grant-making programmes.
Every person who supports the Foundation in any way is valued and we welcome each contribution. Diversity in all its forms makes us a better, stronger organisation and we welcome applications from suitably experienced people of all ages and backgrounds, including people from Black, Asian and other Minority Ethnic communities; disabled people; lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people; and others with lived experience relevant to our work.
Role Description
Our Board of trustees has an essential role in ensuring the success of the Foundation, and are responsible for ensuring that:
- the Foundation carries out our charitable purposes and complies with our legal and regulatory obligations
- the Foundation’s resources are applied responsibly
- the Foundation is accountable for its actions.
While trustees are unpaid directors of the charity, reasonable out of pocket expenses associated with the fulfilment of your duties will be covered by the Foundation. This may include, for example, travel expenses or the costs of childcare to enable you to attend meetings.
Your commitment to the Foundation
As a trustee you will be expected to attend all Board meetings unless unavoidably prevented. The Board meets four times a year. Three of the meetings are usually no longer than three hours, and one is usually a full day. You need to also allow time to prepare for these meetings in advance.
In addition, most trustees sit on sub-committees and for some roles, this is essential. In this instance we are looking for a trustee to support our grant-making. As a minimum they will be expected to sit on our Grants Committee making decisions on applications for funding, occasionally representing the Foundation on external panels and to guiding our overall funding strategy.
Finally, most trustees provide guidance and advice to the staff on an ad hoc basis according to their skill set. However, as a trustee you are not responsible for the day-to-day running of the Foundation. That responsibility is delegated to the Chief Executive and his team.
As a rough guide, on average, you may need to commit around four to five days a month to this role to prepare for and attend meetings, and support the Foundation. Trustees are appointed for up to three terms of three years.
Our commitment to you
Previous trustee experience is not necessary to join the Foundation’s Board. The staff and existing trustees will provide opportunities to grow and learn as part of the role. As a member of our board, we will provide:
- a thorough induction and ongoing opportunities to grow and learn through the role
- opportunities to shape the direction of the charity
- meet and spend time with people from a variety of different backgrounds
- see the impact our funding makes in the hands of local organisations
- expenses to cover items such as travel and childcare to enable you to fulfil your role
About you
We are looking for a trustee who will bring the qualities and values we need for a successful Board, such as independence of thought and an ability to work as a team. At this time, we are seeking to appoint a trustee to join our Grants Committee, bringing experience, knowledge, understanding of, and a passion for:
- Somerset’s voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations; and
- the role community can play in improving well-being and quality of life, particularly of those who face the greatest challenges in their lives.
You will also be expected to:
- support and promote the Foundation’s mission,
- be resident in and have a good working knowledge of Somerset and
- be able to give the time commitment to carry out the role effectively.
