We’re looking for new volunteer Trustees who are interested in helping to develop the organisation.

Signals is a registered charity, established 35 years ago. It specialises in filmmaking and digital arts for social, learning and creative outputs. Signals works across the region but with a focus on Essex.

Signals works with children, young people, artists and community groups supporting creativity and learning at all levels. Signals is committed to increasing equal access to digital and creative experiences.  Signals vision is to positively impact peoples’ lives by encouraging creativity, developing skills and raising aspirations through creative digital production and education.  This work is increasingly relevant in supporting those left behind in a digital age.

Current projects include working with local migrant communities, disability groups and communities in Harwich.

Signals is seeking new volunteer trustees to diversify and bring additional skills to the board.

We are also looking for those with legal, marketing, community work, funding and building management skills.

The time commitment for trustees is the attendance at quarterly evening meetings (approx. 2 hours per meeting) inclusive of the AGM, occasional attendance of subcommittee and adhoc meetings. Trustees will also be expected to review a range of reports and strategy documents and review and develop policy.

Debt Justice is looking for a Treasurer to support our board to meet our financial responsibilities. Debt Justice is a UK based campaigning organisation that challenges poverty and inequality caused by unjust debt. In solidarity with global allies, we actively challenge the way that debt is used to sustain colonialism and exploitation in the global economy.  At the same time, we use a community organising approach to build the collective power of people with lived experience of debt in local communities across the UK. Our local groups bring people on the frontlines of economic injustice together to lead campaigns and win systemic change to tackle the household debt crisis.

As the Treasurer, you will play a key role in helping us fulfil our mission. You will also benefit from:

The Board of Trustees are looking for someone with accounting experience to join the Board as a Trustee, who will be able to advise on financial matters, ensure we meet our financial obligations and help us build a sound financial strategy as we move forward.

Key Tasks:

All Trustees

• To work alongside the Trustee board to ensure the organisation’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined (on income over £25k) and made publicly available when necessary.
• Ensure your charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law. 
• To ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
• To help promote the organisation to a wider audience of potential funders and beneficiaries.
• To ensure the Foodbank has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
• Act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to the role.
• To serve as an additional promoter of the Foodbank in the community.
• To work with and support the Foodbank Manager as required

Finance Lead

• This role involves leading on the financial affairs of the Foodbank and ensuring that they are conducted within the required legal, accounting and good practice conventions.
• It is also the responsibility of the Financial Lead to work in partnership with the Chairperson, Foodbank Manager, Treasurer and other Trustees to ensure the financial viability and development of the organisation.
• Ensure the Trustee board fulfils its financial responsibilities.
• Ensure that the Foodbank has proper systems for budgeting, financial control, insurance, and reporting.
• Work alongside the Market Drayton Foodbank Treasurer to inform the Trustee board members of the finances of the Foodbank by written report, at least on a quarterly basis ensuring that the board have a clear picture of the financial health of the Foodbank.
• Ensure that financial reports:
• Are comprehensible and properly discussed at Trustee board meetings.
• Are provided in the proper format and at the proper time, as required by the relevant charity regulator body (Charity Commission of England & Wales, Charity Commission of Northern Island or OSCR etc).
• Have properly appointed auditors or independent examiners (on income over £25k).
• Are reported on an annual basis at annual general meetings (AGMs).

About the opportunity

We are seeking up to four new trustees to join our board. After a period of significant change in 2023, we are seeking innovative and experienced individuals as we enter a new and exciting period for our world-leading charity. ·Digital and Technological Innovation – we are seeking support from an individual with a strong background in tech/digital, with the skills, knowledge, and expertise to advise and guide us on our programme of digital transformation.

 · Finance and Commercial – Although we’re a charity, 90% of our funding is generated through commercial activities. We’re looking for a trustee with a sharp eye for the numbers who can help us push the margins on our commercial activities.

Commitment

North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College is a medium-sized general further education college that serves south Leicester and Leicestershire and the north of Warwickshire, including the districts of Blaby, Oadby and Wigston and Harborough and the boroughs of Nuneaton and Bedworth, North Warwickshire and Hinckley and Bosworth. The College operates from campuses in Wigston, Nuneaton, Hinckley town centre and a further specialist construction centre in Hinckley.

About the role.

North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College’s governing body, known as the Corporation Board, has an inclusive, collaborative and respectful culture. The governing body includes 10 external members in addition to the Principal & CEO, a staff member and a student member. The Corporation Board currently holds 4 formal meetings a year (to be reduced to 3 meetings a year in 2024/24), together with a Strategy Day and a Creative meeting, and in addition to the four different committees that also meet throughout the academic year. These meetings take place both in person and online.

The role of a governor is to be a critical friend of the College, offering appropriate scrutiny and challenge, whilst also offering insightful thoughts and ideas for future opportunities. Governors add value to the board through increased diversity of thought and add value, based on each individual’s experience, to the organisation’s strategic plan.

Governors provide a great level of expertise within their specialist fields and encourage a collaborative and inclusive environment, ensuring that their work is to the highest standard. Governors work in close partnership with the senior management team to ensure the College’s objectives are achieved, and the experience and outcomes for students are at the forefront of their decisions.

Who we are looking for.

You will need to have a passion for education and understand the benefits that education can bring, not only to the learners but also to the wider community. You will share the values of the College and aspire to achieve great things for the College’s students, staff and community.

The College seeks to engage candidates with experience in leadership and management and who can demonstrate a successful track record throughout their career in creating positive impact and change. • Financial Expertise – Professionally qualified with experience in strategic financial planning or the analysis of financial management accounts is desirable for this area of expertise.
• Legal Expertise – This experience can be drawn from a variety of sectors, including but not limited to, law firms, company secretary roles, general counsel, and governance advisory roles.
• Audit Expertise – We welcome senior leaders who have experience in overseeing and the development of internal and external audit, compliance, and risk management.

Previous board experience is not essential for this role and full training will be provided.

All our Benefits Advocates play an integral role within our Information and Advice team and last year helped us to identify over £2.5 million in unclaimed welfare benefits entitlement for older people in the county. This money is life changing for our clients; improving quality of life and wellbeing, and supporting local services

We are looking for volunteers who are patient, sensitive and reliable, to assist older people to complete benefit forms such as Attendance Allowance. Appointments are usually in the older person's own home but can sometimes take place over the telephone. Full training and ongoing support are provided by our friendly and knowledgeable team.

Our volunteers will also raise awareness of and promote Age UK Devon services to clients, and record details of any other queries or concerns so that our Advisors can follow up with clients.

Skills required for this role are:

· Ability to empathise with others.

· Good verbal and written communication skills.

· Understanding of confidentiality.

· Patience, sensitivity, and reliability.

· Ability to respond appropriately to different and sometimes difficult situations.

· Working as a team member, referring to other team members when appropriate.

· Ability to work unsupervised and manage appointments.

· Good computer skills.

· Knowledge of the Benefits System (training will be provided).

The Trustee Role

As a registered charity, our governance and overall leadership rests with our Board of Trustees, who work alongside the Chief Executive and Director team. While membership of the Board is voluntary, and without remuneration (reasonable expenses are paid) it is a highly rewarding experience where Trustees contribute actively, and take significant responsibility for the governance and strategic direction of our organisation. Those already in this role find it extremely fulfilling and are a vital part of the Marwell family. With exciting times ahead, we are looking to complement our existing Board of Trustees with a suitably experienced and highly qualified Fundraising professional. In addition to the generic responsibilities and skills required of Board members, Marwell requires someone who can demonstrate extensive charitable fundraising expertise, at a Director or Chief Executive level. Ideally, they will have relevant experience of fundraising governance, major giving and large-scale capital appeals. This role, like many Board appointments, is non-executive but critical in our overall governance, leadership and understanding of best practice.

Main Duties

• To champion fundraising at Board level.

• To work with the Board, CEO, Directors and senior leadership to embed a culture of fundraising throughout the organisation.

• To provide strategic overview and advise the Board on fundraising governance, compliance and regulation, in support of the senior management team.

• To actively harness the energy and contacts of all trustees to support fundraising initiatives, through appropriate use of their networks, sources and their presence at fundraising and other events.

• To support the fundraising team, as appropriate, on fundraising strategy and activities.

• To support the creation of and take a leading role in a new ‘Development Board’

General

• Participate in supporting and regularly reviewing the strategic aims and operational progress of the organisation.

• Ensure, alongside fellow Trustees, that the policies and practices of the organisation are in keeping with its overall aims and objectives.

• Ensure, alongside fellow Trustees, that the organisation functions within the legal and financial requirements of a charitable organisation and strives to achieve best practice.

• Consider the organisation as a whole and its beneficiaries, whether as a member of the Board or any of its sub-committees.

• Reflect the organisation’s vision and principles, strategy and major policies at all times.

 • Adhere to the Code of Conduct at all times, particularly when exercising the functions of the Trustee, or any of its sub-committees or groups.

• Attend Board meetings and sub-committee meetings where appropriate.

• Be an active member of the Trustee body in exercising its responsibilities and functions.

• Maintain good relations with senior managerial employees.

• Take part in training sessions provided for the benefit of Trustees.

• Fulfil such other duties and assignments as may be required from time to time by the Trustee body.

Orchestras Live believes orchestras are for everyone. Our mission is to ensure everyone has access to and can enjoy the benefits of live orchestral music, regardless of their background.
