Little Stars Baby Bank is a registered charity, established in August 2020. We are the only Baby Bank within Shropshire local authority. We are seeking trustees to join our board who will actively champion Little Stars and help us make a real difference to the lives of families in the county.
About Little Stars
Little Star’s vision is a world where all babies and children have access to the basic essentials that they need to feel safe and secure. Our mission is to alleviate the emotional stress and financial pressure of families by providing quality essentials for babies, children and pregnant women. We believe that every family, no matter how complex their situation, should be shown kindness and support at the time they need it most.
Our service supports families who, for various reasons, do not have access to the basic essentials that every child deserves. We work closely with referral partners to ensure those who need to access our support are able to do so. As families face increased financial pressures, demand for our services is growing. It is essential that we build on the foundations we have put in place so that we can increase our impact and help as many families as possible who require our support.
This is an important time in Little Star’s development. We completed our first financial year in December 2021 and have recently completed our first set of accounts. We are in the process of developing our strategy and are looking for trustees to help us realise our plans.

York Women's Counselling Service provides one-to-one counselling for women who are experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties as a result of current or past emotional stress or trauma. Our aim is to support women who need our help, when they need it, for as long as they need it, regardless of their financial circumstances.
In order to achieve this, we are always on the lookout for enthusiastic and motivated women from a wide variety of backgrounds as prospective trustees who can help strengthen the strategic leadership of the organisation.
At this time, we are particularly keen to find a new Treasurer for our organisation.
This key role within the York Women's Counselling Service board will maintain an overview of the organisation’s affairs, ensure its financial viability, and provide strategic insight on all financial matters. In addition it will ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.
Because we are a small charity with a part-time staff team whose structure is without a Chief Executive, our voluntary Treasurer has been required to give some hands-on operational support with the finances of the organisation.
We are a small, friendly team of women who are passionate about helping other women. Any one of us could require psychological support, and may not have the means to pay for it. For those women, we are here, and we'd love to find a Treasurer with the skills and values needed to enhance our organisation and enable us to do more for the women who need us most.

About Surviving Economic Abuse
Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA) is the only UK charity dedicated to raising awareness of and transforming responses to economic abuse. We work in partnership to bring about positive change in the lives of victim-survivors.
We are determined that women are supported to survive and thrive.
What will you be doing?
In just five years, SEA has developed from a bold idea into an established charity. The momentum we’ve gained shows just how big a gap SEA is filling. Nearly all victim-survivors of domestic abuse have experienced economic abuse, with six in ten also telling us that they are struggling with coerced debt.
We have now developed a new, three year Strategy and are now looking to bring new talent to our Board of Trustees. We are looking for exceptional people who bring skills in charity law, fundraising, finance, safeguarding and the women's sector.
Join our inspiring team and be part of the change we are creating.
Job can be done mainly from home.
What are we looking for?
Essential qualities and experience include:
- Commitment to the charity’s vision and mission
- Strategic and forward-looking vision
- Good, independent judgement, political impartiality and creative thinking
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, including respecting confidentiality
- Balancing diplomacy with willingness to challenge and constructively criticise.
- Understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Trustees
- Prior Board experience would be welcomed
- Knowledge of the broader women's sector
- Leadership skills exercised through a period of growth and development
- Experience in volunteering or sponsoring causes
What difference will you make?
Without our Board of Trustees we could not have achieved what we have, in just 5 years. We are very proud of our achievements which include:
- Securing changes to the law: We ensured the Domestic Abuse Act names and defines economic abuse, and successfully campaigned for post-separation abuse to be criminalised.
- Influencing financial services: We worked with UK Finance on their 2021 Financial Abuse Code of Practice so it captures the experiences of victim-survivors and allows financial services organisations to offer support.
- Launching the Financial Support Line: With partners Money Advice Plus, the Line offers regulated money and debt advice for victim-survivors of abuse, helping them regain control of their finances.
- Working with Coronation Street: We advised the scriptwriters on economic abuse, helping them bring an accurate portrayal of this form of abuse to millions of viewers
Time commitment
Estimate of time needed: 0-5 hours / month
Before you apply
Please apply through Reach in the first instance, and provide a cover letter explaining your interest in SEA and how you believe you could contribute to our mission.
First interviews will be held during the week commencing 22nd August. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview in London on 9th September, with the option to meet virtually if needed.

About The Othona Community
Othona's two community/retreat centres, in Essex and Dorset, offer family holidays, retreats, courses and other activities affordable to a wide client base. They provide meeting places and spiritual refreshment for many people who would not readily contact churches or traditional faith organisations.
What will you be doing?
We are looking for someone who will enjoy being part of our community and who has the time and energy to support the work at our Essex retreat centre.
The centre is off grid and has recently undergone a very successful green energy installation and a brand new kitchen. Both the business and staff team have weathered the challenges of the pandemic. We have a strong and loyal visitor base who respond generously to appeals for donations. The site needs further smaller scale investment. We are looking to recruit a Trustee chair who can lead a team of people with varied expertise to make steady and sustained progress to ensure that this much loved centre, with 75 years of history, in an exceptional location, is a treasured resource for the next generation.
Our vision is to be a place for both green and inclusive Christian theology, experienced by the way we live, the programme of events that we hold and how we run and renew the buildings and land. Practical hope in action.
The charity is well governed with specialist Trustees taking responsibility for the finances, safety, including health and safety and safeguarding. We have good accountancy support. Our financial reserves are more than adequate.
As chair of the Othona Bradwell management committee you have responsibility for the Essex centre, but also as a Trustee of the whole charity responsibilities across the two centres, for governance and strategic direction of the whole charity.
The management committee meet quarterly in person at the centre. The whole board of Trustee/Directors meet quarterly virtually (weekday evening 1.5 hours) and has two residential meetings per year, one at each centre (Bradwell on Sea Essex and the Dorset centre) in February and November.
Our AGM is held virtually on a Saturday morning at the end of September
The charity covers all out of pocket expenses.
What are we looking for?
- Participation in a Christian faith based community
- One or more of the following would be helpful:
- Board level experience
- Previous Trustee experience or similar e.g. school governor
- Strategic understanding of organisational management
- Experience of working within Charity Commission guidelines
What difference will you make?
As chair of the Othona Bradwell management committee you will support and shape the staff team and oversee the further development of the site.
You will work with the volunteers on the Bradwell management committee and recruit new members as the need arises.
Our guests value the experience of inclusive community, spirituality, and practical creativity joining retreats, workshops, family holidays and a range of other events. We pursue a vision of openness and inclusion, for people of all faiths and none, affirming mutual respect and understanding.
We are increasingly aware of the double curse of loneliness due to community break down and climate despair and anxiety. Our vision is to be a place where we can be real together and find practical hope in action.
People of all ages come to Othona to be themselves, valued for who they are. They find support through difficult times e.g. bereavement, family breakdown, ill health, find a new direction, feel restored. This experience of community, affirms people whatever their age, gender, religion or ethnicity and contributes to social re-connection while at Othona and back home. People make friendships at Othona that last for years.
Commitment:
Estimate of time needed: 3-7 hours / week.
Role can mostly be done either in, or out of, office hours and mainly at home. However, regular visits to the centre are required. We are looking for someone who will visit and get to know the centre well and who intends to be in the role for several years.
How to apply:
Interested applicants please message via Reach without obligation. Application is by letter accompanied by a CV. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to visit the retreat centre. Interview will be by 2 Trustees. References will be required, as will an enhanced level DBS check, a declaration that you have not been barred from becoming a Trustee or Director. It will be necessary to complete our register of interests. Role description is attached.
