We have been working to save babies’ lives for 50 years, and since we formed as The Foundation for the Study of Sudden Infant Deaths (FSID) in 1971 we have played a key role in the reduction of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) by over 80%.

In the face of the twin crises for climate and nature, the environment is a growing area of focus for the Church of England. We have a commitment to net-zero carbon by 2030. Our ability to rise to this challenging target relies partly on a network of volunteer advisors around the country, supporting the work of our Diocesan Advisory Committees.
Introduction
We are looking for a wide range of Volunteer Advisors, inputting in their own specialist areas. You might know about low-carbon heating, energy efficient lighting, solar panels, electrical systems, insulating historic buildings, EV car charging, bats, trees, or more! There are a whole range of skills we need, so please do register your interest, so we can hear what you have to offer.

Main Responsibilities

We are looking for a senior HR expert and a lived experience of White City in west London to join board of new youth charity and be part of project that aims to improve life chances of thousands of young people.
West Youth Zone is a new state of the art youth club being built in White City, West London, which will support thousands of local young people to reach their full potential by giving them ‘somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to’. This new charity is part of a Network of 14 OnSide Youth Zones across the country, offering affordable, inclusive access to a broad range of high-quality positive activities including; sports, arts, employability and, personal and social development, for 8-19 year olds and up to 25 for young people with additional needs.
We would love to hear from people with senior HR expertise and a lived experience of this area of London, who are passionate about supporting and developing opportunities for young people. You will be dynamic, motivated, and able to actively contribute your time and expertise for the benefit of the charity, through the role of HR Trustee.
You don't need to have previous Trustee experience but you will have experience working as a senior HR professional in organisations of at least 50 staff, who will be able to support and advise the Youth Zone's full time paid management team to ensure that HR activities and interventions are linked to the Youth Zone’s charitable objects and strategic objectives. As part of the OnSide Network, you will be able to draw on policies and support from OnSide and other peer HR trustees of other Youth Zones.

- Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts and financial statements
- Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs
- Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate reserves policy
- Preparing and presenting financial reports to the board
- Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place
- Liaising with any paid staff and volunteers about financial matters
- Advising on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans

- Ensuring that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of the charity

New Beginnings Reading - Treasurer & Trustees
We are seeking a trustees and a treasurer who will be a key part of New Beginning Reading as it continues to support families and individuals facing the tough winter ahead, and the ongoing cost of living crisis.
Who we are
New Beginnings Reading was founded in May 2017 in a direct response to rising poverty and homelessness in Reading. Our charity aims are to provide relief from the effects of poverty, financial hardship and homelessness to people in Reading, Berkshire. Our first service was launched in June 2018 after a year of refurbishing the Queens Arms. Businesses, individuals, churches and schools volunteered alongside the charity trustees to transform a derelict pub, into an alcohol and drug free sanctuary. We support up to 230 people each week across our three services. This number is made up of families and individuals experiencing financial hardship, poverty and homelessness in Reading, Berkshire.

We are currently looking for a Voluntary Chairperson to head the Board of Trustees and help guide our charity during an exciting time in its development.
Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses (BPCG) is a vibrant community garden situated in the centre of Brockwell Park. We are registered under the Charities Act and are a registered company limited by guarantee. The charity is committed to enabling a diverse range of local residents, schools and visitors to increase their knowledge, improve their wellbeing and to create greener communities. Our one-acre site is a thriving hub of volunteering activities and educational initiatives.
We are planning for a significant increase in our activities following the completion of ‘Brockwell Barn’ – an indoor space with teaching kitchen, classroom and toilet facilities. Securing and delivering this project has taken up a huge amount of time and energy, and now it is complete we hope to broaden and diversify our charitable outputs and continue to empower and upskill Staff and Volunteers.
Board Responsibilities
● Provide leadership to the Board and ensure that Trustees fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the proper governance of the charity and increased benefit to our volunteers and users.
● Chair Board meetings (normally 6 per year), working with the Secretary to ensure that accurate, timely and clear information is provided to Trustees, and that the Board as a whole works in partnership with Staff.
- Coordinate and attend yearly training with the NCVO to help set goals, priorities and culture for the Board.
● Ensure good and up-to-date governance through the timely creation/renewal of governance policies and share responsibility with the CEO for embedding these principles in the day-to-day work of Staff and Volunteers.
● Work with Trustees, Staff and Volunteers to establish priorities and goals and then supervise the creation of a new 5-year plan for the charity’s development (2023-28).
● Ensure that BPCG applies its resources in pursuance of its objectives; ensure that the Board reviews and develops BPCG strategy and policies, including the preparation and implementation of business plans.
● Work with the Treasurer, Trustees, and Staff to ensure sound financial management and regulatory compliance.
● Oversee the continued financial sustainability of the Charity, contributing strategy insights to the development of different income streams and project funding as appropriate.
● Ensure that the performance of the Board is reviewed annually, maintain the focus and commitment of the Board (including renewal/succession planning and via training), and help oversee the appointment and induction of new Trustees.
● To facilitate change and address conflict or differing opinions within the organisation.
- Act in the best interest of and promote BPCG, representing the organisation at functions and meetings, and acting as a spokesperson as appropriate.
Management Responsibilities
- Line-manage the CEO on behalf of the Board and act as conduit between paid Staff and the Board, ensuring their needs are understood and addressed.
- Support and appraise the performance of the CEO
- Assist the CEO in organising and delivering training for Staff.
Experience required: candidate should be able to show experience in most of the following
- Experience working as Chair, CEO or senior management in a charity, CIC or community group of similar size or remit to BPCG, or alternatively the chief management role in a small business of similar size.
- Knowledge of the operating environment and requirements for a fully incorporated charity limited by guarantee in England.
- Experience directing or creating organisational change, particularly in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Hours
This is voluntary position but requires a significant commitment of up to 7 days spread over a month – to be done for the most part at any time of day. However, an ability to do a small part of this during normal office hours would be very useful.

High Trees was born of the local community 23 years ago, through collective community action to save the old library based in Tulse Hill, turning it into a Community Development Trust. Today, High Trees has grown significantly and is a well-regarded and trusted community anchor in Lambeth, delivering and leading on a range of integrated services to connect people and communities to strengthen skills and build stronger voices.
We are looking for two Trustees to join our active, engaged board to help ensure that the organisation continues to meet its strategic objectives, stays true to its vision and values and ensures that it continues to meet the requirements set out by the charity commission.
As a Board member you will be expected to attend a quarterly board meeting, with further opportunities to join a sub-committee which also meets quarterly and offer support based on your outside expertise. All meetings normally take place in the evening from 6.00pm and lasts about 1.5 hrs. Time commitment

- The Finance Trustee chairs the Finance Committee which also meet bi-monthly for 1 hour remotely.
- Attendance at the annual AGM in September is optional but preferred.
- The Finance Trustee may also be asked for their input at other times throughout the year such as when the annual accounts are being submitted.
