Urban Youth is building a bold, creative and inclusive youth offer for young people aged 10–25 across London. To support our growth, we’re seeking a Volunteer HR and Volunteering Manager — someone who can nurture our people, strengthen our volunteer experience and help build a supportive, values‑driven culture.

The Role: Support, Develop and Empower the People Who Power Urban Youth

As our HR and Volunteering Manager, you will:

• Lead the coordination and support of Urban Youth’s volunteer team.

• Oversee volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training and ongoing development.

• Ensure our HR and volunteer processes are safe, inclusive and aligned with best practice.

• Support safeguarding, compliance and quality assurance across the organisation.

• Help build a positive, supportive culture where volunteers feel valued and equipped.

• Maintain clear HR records, policies and procedures.

• Champion wellbeing, inclusion and reflective practice.

• Work closely with programme leads to ensure volunteers are confident and supported in their roles.

Your work will help create the environment where volunteers — and the young people they support — can thrive.

Areas You’ll Support Across the Organisation

Urban Youth delivers a full National Youth Agency‑aligned youth work offer. As HR and Volunteering Manager, you’ll help ensure volunteers are supported across:

1. Universal / Open Access Youth Work

Youth clubs, creative sessions and open spaces for all young people.

2. Targeted Youth Support (TYS)

Volunteers supporting vulnerable young people aged 10–21 (up to 25).

3. Detached Youth Work

Teams engaging young people in parks, estates and community spaces.

4. Outreach Youth Work

Volunteers connecting young people into our wider programmes.

5. Specialist / Targeted Provision

Support around mental health, identity, sexual health and other needs.

6. Digital Youth Work

Volunteers helping deliver safe, creative online engagement.

You’ll ensure volunteers feel prepared, confident and supported across all these areas.

Who We’re Looking For

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

• Have experience in HR, volunteer management, youth services or community organisations.

• Understand safeguarding, safer recruitment and inclusive practice.

• Are organised, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities.

• Can build strong relationships and communicate with warmth and clarity.

• Are committed to diversity, inclusion and creating a positive volunteer experience.

• Can support volunteers with empathy, professionalism and encouragement.

• Are adaptable, resilient and passionate about improving outcomes for young people.

Formal HR qualifications are welcome but not essential — values, reliability and people‑centred leadership matter most.
