Job description

WANTED: THE STRATEGIC ANCHOR

ROLE: VOLUNTEER TRUSTEE / BOARD MEMBER

LOCATION: HYBRID / LONDON

STRATEGY: BLACK & WHITE GOVERNANCE. NO GREY AREAS.

THE MISSION

URBAN YOUTH is disrupting the status quo. We are building a high-impact, agile model that moves faster than traditional charities. To keep this movement sustainable and legally watertight, we need a Board of Trustees who can provide the "Scaffolding" for our growth.

You aren't just sitting in a boardroom; you’re guarding the vision and ensuring the movement has the legs to go the distance. We need 'LEAN START-UP' thinking and people whos actions speak louder than words.

THE GIG

  • The Guardianship: Ensuring we stay true to our mission while navigating the legal and financial realities of the charity sector.

  • The Network: Leveraging your professional background—whether it’s Fundraising, Law, Finance, Safeguarding, or Policy—to open doors and clear paths.

  • The Strategy: Working with the Founder to map out Years 1, 2, and 3, ensuring we scale without losing our "street" soul.

  • The Compliance: Overseeing our "High Contrast" approach to transparency, risk management, and EDI.

ABOUT YOU

  • The Professional Edge: You have a background in business, charity leadership, law, or the creative industries. You know how the "system" works, and you want to use that knowledge to help those it often ignores.

  • A Rebel with a Cause: You’re tired of "corporate youth work fluff." You believe in radical accessibility and want to support a model that values agility over bureaucracy.

  • Critical Friend: You aren't afraid to challenge the Founder or the Squad. You provide the level-headed perspective that keeps the project safe and sustainable.

  • London Heart: You’re invested in the future of the city and its young people. You understand the "postcode lottery" and want to be part of the solution.

THE COMMITMENT

This is a high-level role with a low-intensity time commitment. We hold quarterly board meetings (90 mins) plus occasional ad-hoc advice via email or WhatsApp as specific challenges arise. The first Foundation Meeting will be a weekend day or spread over 3 evenings, so that we can get aquainted, agree the foundations and get everything signed off and submitted and ready to launch.

THE PERKS

  • Civic Leadership: Play a pivotal role in a timely, ambitious project that is redefining urban provision.

  • Governance Experience: Gain or sharpen your experience at board level within a lean, "start-up" style charity.

  • Direct Impact: Help build the foundations that will eventually support thousands of young Londoners.

HOW TO APPLY

We don't need a formal cover letter. We need to know your "Why."

Reply with:

  1. The "Expertise": What is your professional "superpower" (e.g., Finance, Law, HR, Fundraising)?

  2. The "Why": In two sentences, why does the URBAN YOUTH mission resonate with you?

  3. The "Gap": What is the biggest risk you think a "pop-up" model faces, and how would you help us manage it?

URBAN YOUTH. GOVERN THE MOVEMENT. CHANGE THE FUTURE!!!
