Job description

Urban Youth – Volunteer Chair Wanted

Help us build a youth charity that young Londoners will feel proud to call theirs — from the very first brick.

We’re so excited to be launching Urban Youth — a brand new London youth work charity created to give young people experiences, opportunities, and the space to discover themselves and the world around them. This is a youth community built on care, creativity, belonging and real connection… and now we’re looking for someone special to help guide us through our start‑up journey.

We’re searching for our first amazing Chair — someone collaborative, grounded, and full of heart, who can work closely with our Founder & CEO and our emerging committee to help shape the foundations, direction and future of Urban Youth.

This isn’t a distant, formal board role. It’s hands‑on, supportive, and deeply involved. You’ll be helping us build the systems, structures and relationships that will define Urban Youth for years to come.

What you’ll be helping us create

Together with our Founder & CEO and Steering Committee, you’ll help us build:

  • the policies, procedures and governance that keep young people safe and supported.

  • a strong, values‑driven foundation for our programmes and operations.

  • key community and professional connections that help us grow.

  • opportunities, partnerships and networks that open doors for Urban Youth.

  • a collaborative committee culture where everyone works together for the same goal.

  • the strategic direction that guides Urban Youth through its early stages and beyond.

This is more than a governance role — it’s a chance to help shape a youth movement from the ground up.

Who we’re looking for

Someone who:

  • cares deeply about young people, community and social impact.

  • enjoys working collaboratively and supporting others to do their best work.

  • can bring leadership, structure and clarity to a new charity.

  • is comfortable helping to create policies, procedures and good governance.

  • is confident networking, making introductions and opening doors.

  • can support, challenge and champion the Founder & CEO in equal measure.

  • wants to use their skills, voice and experience to make a real difference in London.

If you’re the kind of person who loves building something meaningful with others — not just talking about it — you’ll fit right in.

What you’ll get

  • The chance to shape the entire direction and foundation of a brand‑new youth charity.

  • A meaningful leadership role that directly impacts young people’s lives.

  • A collaborative, supportive team who genuinely value your time, insight and leadership.

  • The joy of building something powerful, personal and full of heart.

  • Something that looks great on your CV and gives you real governance experience.

  • A reference for your contribution, after 6–8 months.

  • The knowledge that you helped create a youth movement that will outlast all of us.

If you’re excited by the idea of helping us build something bold, youth‑centred and full of heart, we’d love to hear from you. Come help us create the foundations of a charity that young people will connect with — and feel proud to be part of.

Let’s build something unforgettable together.

Let’s build Urban Youth.
