At BIAS, we’re looking for personable and kind individuals to join our Be-A-Friend scheme and help reduce social isolation amongst older members of the Irish community in Brent.
Our Be-A-Friend scheme connects volunteers with older people who may be living on their own. Whether through a friendly visit or a chat on the phone, your time will bring companionship and joy to someone, making a real difference in their life.
The role is flexible, allowing you to volunteer at times that suit your schedule. While we encourage a regular commitment (such as once a week) to build meaningful connections, we’re happy to work with you to find a routine that suits best! Our coordinator will also be available to support you throughout your volunteering experience.

Cord is seeking to appoint two trustees to strengthen our current capacity and ideally bring some complementary skills to the way we govern.
Being a trustee is a valuable role. Together, the Board of Trustees provides the oversight and accountability necessary to ensure that Cord implements its strategy in line with our values, and complies with the requirements of the Charity Commission.
We do not require trustees to have prior Board experience and are open to seeking trustees with a variety of skills and experiences. At this time, we particularly welcome applications from those with skills/experience in charity fundraising (either public or trusts/major donors or institutional), and legal/charity governance.
We are interested in hearing from individuals who not only share our Christian values but have an active Christian faith. We celebrate difference in all its interpretations, and applications are actively encouraged from individuals from diverse backgrounds, in particular, those who reflect and represent the communities we work in.
Trustees are invited to serve on the Board for a three-year period, at the end of which they are eligible for re-election, up to a maximum of three three-year term limits. Applicants will be based in the UK or be able to commit to in-person UK meetings. Board membership is not a remunerated position, but reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.
Applicants will need to be able to commit their time to four Board meetings (two in-person and two online) and attend three 90 minute online meetings per year in the evenings.

Overview of the role:
Kingfisher Food bank opened its doors in 2013 and was a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area. In March 2023 the North Solihull Food Bank, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, was set up to carry on and enhance the work of the Kingfisher Food Bank. We are here to help people in crisis and offer support through the provision of emergency food parcels, by offering a listening ear, and by signposting to other agencies for more bespoke support. We have a dedicated team of over 30 volunteers.
The Secretary of Trustees is responsible for leading on the administrative duties of the food bank and Board of Trustees, ensuring that its activities are conducted within the legal requirements, with board meetings being properly administered.
Key tasks
Secretary Responsibilities:
- to attend Trustee meetings, take accurate notes and keep an accurate record of attendance at meetings, recording all resolutions passed by the Trustees.
- to ensure that there is a record of all Trustee Board correspondence
- to ensure that details of Trustee meetings are circulated to the board together with minutes of the previous meeting.
- organise the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and ensure all relevant stakeholders are informed and post the appropriate notices and commission, collect, duplicate and issue any necessary written reports, agendas, and minutes of previous meetings.
- to prepare, in partnership with other trustees, an annual report for the AGM on the work of the food bank.
- to ensure that the annual report (to accompany the annual accounts) is produced and sent to the relevant charity regulator body (Charity Commission of England & Wales) and that the details of the charity and new trustees are updated in a timely manner.
- to periodically check the Charity Commission’s website for guidance and information and updates that may affect the Trustees or the Foodbank
Other responsibilities, along with the Board of Trustees, include:
- to approve, support, and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals, and objectives
- to manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk, and not over-commit the charity
- To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity, responding to changes in the local community as appropriate
- to ensure that key risks are identified, monitored, and controlled appropriately
- to ensure appropriate financial plans are in place, budgets are monitored, and progress is evaluated
- to review and approve financial statements
- to help promote the organisation to key stakeholders and beneficiaries
- advertise, correspond with, and interview volunteers for posts, including use of Assemble and where applicable carry out DBS checks.
- to ensure the charity has appropriate procedures to comply with current legislation and good practice, including employment, health and safety, equity, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding and GDPR compliance/data protection
- to prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people who want to help their local community and work towards the eradication of food poverty whilst supporting the food bank to continue to provide emergency food to people who find themselves in crisis. Our ideal candidates would demonstrate:
- a knowledge of and commitment to the work of the North Solihull Foodbank.
- a knowledge of, and passion for, your local community.
- previous experience or an ability in: administrative procedures; writing clearly; providing clear advice on procedural and relevant legislative matters.
- excellent communication skills.
- a willingness to actively participate in discussions concerning needs of the foodbank’s beneficiaries, staff, and the trustee board.
- sound, independent judgement, the ability to think creatively, and to act in the best interest of the charity.
- the ability to work effectively as a team member and demonstrate a willingness to learn, develop and collaborate.

The Big Issue office in Bournemouth is a hub for our vendors and the focal point for our work in the South West and we are looking for someone to help in the running of the office and supporting our vendors. In doing so you will be making a real difference to our South West Team and people in poverty.
While in the office, you will promote to our existing vendors the Big Issue Changing Lives service offer, including opportunities like My Pitch, mentoring and volunteering and Specsavers vouchers. You will help them book onto pitches when the office is busy and direct them to relevant services if they have a concern. You will also take phone calls, provide admin support and support the local team to create a welcoming office environment where vendors feel motivated, supported, and encouraged.
You will be someone who is aware of and champions the campaigns of the Big Issue and our work, who is compassionate and empathetic towards our vending community and someone with admin and basic data entry experience.
We are flexible as to which days you can volunteer with us and as to the pattern of hours you can be with us.

- with good communication skills and experience with public presentation and negotiations.

- Experience at a senior, strategic level within an organisation of similar size.
- Previous Trustee or Non‑Executive Board Director experience (essential).
- Financial literacy and understanding of charitable sector finance.
- Proven ability to build external collaborations and foster strong internal teams.
- Experience working with charity regulators, significant funders and institutional or political leaders.
Time commitment
As well as the time commitments for all Trustees (one day per month), the Chair role will require an additional 0.5 – 1 day per month to support and collaborate with the Chief Executive.

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.
We are looking to recruit a Support Volunteer for the Taunton and District Group. As our local group Support Volunteer you’ll help people affected by MS find information about local and national services. That could be helping someone access local information about the care or benefits they need or giving them a hand with a grant application. See a video about one of our Support Volunteers here.
In this role you’ll be able to develop your listening and communication skills, as well as your knowledge of local services. Most importantly you’ll help people affected by MS to access the help they need.
Time commitment
We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.
You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the local area the group to carry out this role.

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.
We are looking to recruit a Group Coordinator for our Taunton and District group. As our local Group Coordinator you’ll take the lead in making sure your local group works as effectively as possible. You’ll recruit, induct and support other group volunteers to make sure your group’s activities meet the needs of your local MS community. You can see a video about one of our Group Coordinators here.
In this role you’ll be able to develop your leadership, management, communication, organisation and motivation skills.
Time Commitment
We estimate this role will need around 5 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.
You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the Taunton and District area to carry out this role.

We are looking to recruit an Activities Organiser for the Scunthorpe and District Group. As our local group Activities Organiser you’ll play a crucial role in developing and planning activities and events with your local group. You’ll be responsible for creating and coordinating an annual calendar of events and making sure they’re run safely and effectively to make the most impact. You’ll take a lead role at events on the day and inspire your fellow volunteers to get involved.
In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication, administration and negotiation skills.
