Job description

Support an organisation empowering and upskilling young people in Africa

Africa Matters Initiative works to provide young people in Africa with skills and knowledge to lead civic engagement and community-organised activities. Africa is the youngest continent in the world, with over 70% of the population being under 30. Some experts predict that the population of Sub-Saharan Africa will double by 2050. The unemployment rate is 2x that of adults, we see young people being forced to join the informal labour market/economy. They are working towards closing the skills gap affecting younger generations of Africans. Through a holistic approach to empowerment, their flagship programs integrate leadership and social entrepreneurship training with community-building initiatives to conceptualise and implement solutions that directly address social issues and foster income transformation in their communities.

Graphic Designer

Africa Matters Initiative (AMI) is seeking a skilled volunteer designer to support the creation of a new brand banner that reflects our mission, values, and impact. AMI is a youth-led organization operating across 23 African countries, empowering young people who face systemic barriers through leadership development, social entrepreneurship, and advocacy.

This short-term, project-based opportunity is ideal for a graphic designer or creative professional who enjoys translating mission-driven work into strong, visually compelling assets. The volunteer will work closely with AMI’s team to design one primary banner that can be adapted for use across our digital platforms, including our website, email marketing, and social media channels.

Responsibilities include reviewing AMI’s brand materials and visual identity, understanding the purpose and audience for the banner, and designing a clean, impactful banner that aligns with our existing branding while elevating our visual presence. The volunteer may also provide guidance on best practices for resizing or adapting the banner for different platforms.
Ideal candidates have experience in graphic or visual design, are comfortable working with brand guidelines, and can deliver polished, high-quality design assets within a defined timeframe. Experience designing for nonprofits, social impact organizations, or digital campaigns is a plus but not required.

The expected time commitment is approximately 2–10 hours over 1–2 weeks, and the role can be completed remotely. All final design files will be shared with AMI for ongoing use.
