Role Purpose
The Ethics Advisor is a volunteer role within the Ethics Team, responsible for supporting ethical review processes, advising project teams on ethical considerations, and contributing to the development of responsible research practice. Advisors work closely with Senior Officers/Senior Researchers/Senior Advisors to ensure that ethical standards are consistently applied across all projects.
Key Responsibilities

Provide advice to project teams on ethical considerations, data management and responsible research design.

Support ethical review processes by assessing risks, identifying issues and recommending improvements.

Work with Senior team members to ensure consistent application of ethical frameworks.

Assist in developing guidance materials, templates or resources to support ethical practice.

Contribute to discussions on ethical governance, risk and compliance.

Maintain accurate and responsible handling of sensitive information and research data.

Support the organisation’s mission by promoting ethical awareness and responsible research behaviour.

Role Requirements (Ethics Advisor)
To ensure readiness for this volunteer position, individuals should have:

At least 1 year of experience in research or ethics, gained at postgraduate level or through equivalent practical experience.

A proven record of good decision‑making, ideally demonstrated in a role where ethical judgement, risk assessment or responsible practice has been a core component.

A strong interest in research ethics, including a commitment to maintaining ethical standards across research projects and supporting others to do the same.

Experience providing guidance, advice or support in a research or ethics‑related context is beneficial but not essential.
