Role Purpose
Senior volunteers act as experienced members of the Ethics Team, supporting the Manager by supervising junior volunteers, delegating tasks and ensuring high‑quality ethical review. They provide advanced ethical guidance, help resolve issues and contribute to planning and decision‑making. Their role strengthens the team’s capacity and ensures consistent, responsible research practice.
Key Responsibilities

Supervise Officers/Researchers/Advisors, offering guidance, support and quality assurance.

Delegate tasks effectively to ensure timely and accurate delivery of ethical review.

Provide subject‑matter expertise on ethical standards, research design and data management.

Support the development and confidence of junior volunteers.

Assist in resolving issues or challenges arising within projects or the team.

Build strong working relationships across the organisation to support ethical research practice.

Contribute to planning, decision‑making and process improvement alongside the Manager.

Ensure consistent application of ethical frameworks across all assigned work.

Role Requirements (Senior Roles)
To ensure readiness for this senior volunteer position, individuals should have:

At least 2 years of progressive experience in research or ethics, including applying ethical principles or supporting ethical review.

A solid understanding of how to support others in ethical decision‑making or research practice.

Ideally, a PhD or active progress toward a PhD, or equivalent advanced research experience.

Experience mentoring, guiding or supporting others in a research or ethics context.
