The Sherriff Centre, a community-focused charity now in its 11th year, and are seeking a dedicated and experienced Co-Chair to join our Board of Trustees. This pivotal role will work alongside the Vicar of the Parish of St Mary’s Kilburn and St James West Hampstead, who, because of the legal construction of the Charity and the Parish, will act as the other Co-Chair. This post holder will fulfil the usual role of a Chair of a charity and be there to provide leadership, strategic direction, and governance to help advance the mission and objectives of the Centre. 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Governance:

·  Collaborate with the Vicar Co-Chair and Board members to provide strategic leadership and governance.

·  Ensure the Board operates effectively and meets its legal and statutory responsibilities.

·  Support the development and deployment of current trustees and staff and lead on the recruitment of new trustees.

2. Project Development and Service Delivery:

·  Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of services to ensure they meet the needs of our community.

·  Work with the Co-chair and Centre Director to develop new initiatives that align with our mission and strategic goals.

3. Community Engagement:

·  Act as an ambassador, advocating for our mission and building relationships with stakeholders, funders, and partners.

·  Foster a culture of community involvement, including with the parish, and encourage volunteer engagement.

4. Strategic Thinking:

·  Contribute to the strategic planning process, setting appropriate strategic goals and workplans

·  Ensure that the Board’s decisions align with our objectives and assist with regular monitoring of our activities in line with its objectives and the Board’s overall strategic goals.

·  Monitor trends and developments in community needs and adjust strategies accordingly.

5. Collaboration with Centre Director:

·  Work closely with the Centre Director to support operational management and service delivery.

·  Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures that enhance our effectiveness.

Person Specification:

1. Essential Qualifications and Experience:

·  Proven experience in a similar role, for example as a CEO or in senior leadership within a small/medium-sized charity.

·  Demonstrated experience in project development and service delivery within community settings.

·  Strong understanding of community work and the challenges faced by local populations.

·  Ability to be in sympathy with a community charity run in a Christian place or worship and relate to the parish community.

2. Skills and Competencies:

·  Strategic thinker with ability to develop and implement long-term plans.

·  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate stakeholders.

·  Strong leadership skills with a collaborative approach to governance and decision-making.

·  Ability to analyse information and make informed decisions.

3.  Availability:

·  Must have availability during weekdays, committing 8-10 hours per week to fulfil the role effectively.

Please note: This is a volunteer role with expenses covered with prior agreement. Multiple shifts are available and shifts are 9am - 1pm and 1pm - 5pm, Monday to Saturday. We are also looking for people to work 12-4pm on Sundays in the run up to Christmas.

• Chatting to customers, giving great service on the till.
• Researching valuable and vintage stock.
• Visual merchandising: creating eye-catching window and in-store displays.
• Photographing and listing items for the online shop.
• This role may include occasionally lifting boxes. We prioritise a safe working environment and provide comprehensive health and safety training to all volunteers.

Overview

No Panic is a national charity, supporting people with a variety of anxiety issues, providing self-help advice over our helpline and additional support services.

We are building a team of volunteers to produce and distribute introduction material about No Panic to service users, members, students and volunteers.

We are looking for a volunteer to co-ordinate this team.

Activities

Activities will include reviewing the introduction material; assigning editing tasks to team members;  monitoring progress; reviewing content and overseeing distribution.

The Co-ordinator might also do the editing, if no volunteers are available.

We anticipate this volunteering will take up about 3-4 hours per week and ask our volunteers to commit to at least a year.

Desired Skills

Successful applicants will be committed and motivated.

They will be confident, and have leadership skills.

They will be able to produce and edit documents of varying lengths to a high standard and be able to write and communicate with clarity.

A reference will be required.

Being a director for the Charity of Elizabeth Janes Jones and the David Henry Waring Home is an exciting and challenging role, bringing with it opportunities for applying strategic thinking, planning, creativity, and stewardship which can help guide the Charity to achieve its goals in the management of its properties, a site re-development which is a significant milestone in the Charity’s history.

Our directors are responsible in law for managing the incorporated entity, and as we are a charitable organisation our directors are also trustees at law and have formal responsibilities under the Companies Act 2006.Our directors give their time voluntarily and the positions are unremunerated, but reasonable out of pocket expenses may be allowable.

As a director, you’ll work as part of a board alongside our other directors and will also have opportunities to work with the CEO, staff, and volunteers, adding to the range of knowledge, skills, and experience within the Charity’s team.  As well as bringing fresh ideas to current and future property management and development projects, the director role also has responsibilities for the governance of the Charity, regulatory compliance matters and the effective stewardship of our finances and resources.

We’re looking for people who are passionate about making a difference to the housing sector we would love to hear from you if you’d like to contribute. Ideally, we are hoping to find volunteers with professional qualifications experience and knowledge in the following areas:

·Practical skills and knowledge of social housing and the housing sector and an understanding of the difficulties face by individuals with disadvantaged backgrounds.

·Practical skills and knowledge of, accounting and budget management, using financial data to run a team, function or organisation and to make financial decisions which optimises budgets and contributes to the smooth running of the operation.

·Charity law and governance, with a practical understanding of a directors, legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities.

·Familiarity with personal responsibilities and liabilities like that of a director and acting in the best interests of the team and organisation.

·Time management and decision-making skills.

·Management and mitigation of risk, including areas such as finance, media and PR.

·Interacting with others and people skills, and a track record of being able to get along with, boards, employees, service users and the public.

Time commitment: The full Board meets every 2 months and meetings last for about 2.5 hours. In addition, Board members are expected to be members of at least one sub committees. These meet when needed but typically monthly.

Award-winning theatre company One Tenth Human is seeking people with a passion for developing children’s STEM potential to join our Board of Trustees. Could you help us succeed with our next adventures?

One Tenth Human is an award-winning theatre company based in Lancaster, led by Artistic Director Sarah Punshon. We are a registered charity (no. 1195497), on a mission to empower primary-age children with better stories about their own potential. We explode myths and expectations when it comes to science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths (“STEAM”) because too many children reach adulthood believing these subjects are not for “people like me”. We want to change this.

We create and tour interactive theatrical adventures nationally to arts venues, libraries, schools, and village halls. Since our formation in 2016, we have been commissioned and co-produced by Shoreditch Town Hall, Z-arts, China Plate, Polka Theatre, Tutti Frutti, Big Imaginations, ARC Stockton, The Dukes Lancaster, and Lancaster Arts. We reach nationally, but are deeply embedded in our local region, working closely with schools, community groups, charities, and higher education partners to incubate new work and give more children the chance to take part in our life-changing adventures.

The Board meets for 90 minute meetings every quarter on Zoom, with occasional in-person Away Days.

Written information is sent out a week before each meeting, requiring careful reading and consideration. Trustees may take on additional tasks suitable to their area of expertise between meetings, but the role is fundamentally one of governance and strategic guidance.

We are currently recruiting for Board members with the following skills:

(A) Financial Management Trustee. We are seeking a Board member who would be able to support our financial management, working with the Treasurer (and our accountant) to oversee financial planning, processes, and compliance. Your experience might be an accountancy qualification, experience with charity financial management, experience in business, or similar. Your role would include joining our Budget Working Group, which meets quarterly, one to two weeks before each Board meeting.

(B) Board Members. More broadly, we are keen to recruit Board members who have any one (or more!) of the following areas of expertise:

• ○  Marketing/PR;

• ○  Fundraising / philanthropy;

• ○  Charity governance / legal;

• ○  IT;

• ○  Children aged 3-10 years - whether as a teacher, parent, carer, or volunteer;

• ○  Education, particularly primary education;

• ○  Science, technology, engineering or maths: this might mean in industry, in academia, in

  museums, or another public engagement area. In addition, we expect all Board members to have:

Cadet Group Leaders work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units. By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens. Youth Leaders also help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be, as well as supervise and support other adult volunteers in their team.

Who we are

The Rees Foundation is a national charity based in Worcestershire that seeks to support adults who have, at some stage in their lives, been in foster care or residential care. Our focus is on the reality of many people’s transitions from being in care and moving into adult life, and the ongoing impact that care experience can have on a person's ability to reach their full potential.

Rees is resolute that care shouldn’t stop at 18, 21, or 25 years, it’s lifelong, and someone should be there to care. We listen, offer practical and emotional help, and we develop projects that really make a positive difference.

The role

The role of a Trustee is to ensure that the charity fulfils its duty to its beneficiaries and delivers on its vision, mission and values. The Board of Trustees are jointly and individually responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the probity of its activities, and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.

Our Board currently comprises members with a variety of skills in social care, strategic planning, finance and business.

As we have recently extended our registration to operate in Scotland, we are particularly keen to strengthen Scottish representation on our Board. We would welcome applications from individuals who have:

• Experience or professional understanding of the Scottish charity governance framework and OSCR regulations.
• Knowledge of the Scottish care system, including transitions, aftercare, or leaving-care support in a Scottish context.
• Connections to communities or organisations across Scotland that can help us better serve care-experienced adults in the region.

We would especially welcome applications from people who have professional knowledge and/or experience in the following areas:

• Finance (management accounting)
• Digital systems
• Fundraising
• Lived experience of being in care

We are also keen to increase diversity within the Board. We particularly welcome those from an ethnic minority background, the LGBTIQA+ community, people with disabilities, and younger people, as these are currently under-represented on our Board.
