The Secretary is a key governance role, ensuring the smooth running of the charity’s board and compliance with charity law. They provide vital support to the Chair and trustees by keeping accurate records, maintaining good communication, and ensuring decisions are well-documented and followed up. The main activities of this role are:
- Organise and prepare agendas for trustee meetings, in consultation with the Chair.
- Circulate papers and information to trustees in advance of meetings.
- Take clear and accurate minutes of meetings, highlighting decisions and actions.
- Maintain statutory records in line with charity law and good governance (e.g. trustee register, conflicts of interest).
- Support with filing annual returns and reports to the Charity Commission and other regulators.
- Keep policies, governing documents, and key records up to date.
- Act as the point of contact for trustees regarding meeting arrangements and governance matters.
- Ensure the charity operates in line with its constitution and relevant legal requirements.
- Contribute to the wider development and good governance of the charity.

We are seeking Event Doctors to respond and manage emergency calls/incidents at events which may include venues such as stadia, concert halls, motorsports tracks, road races etc. Event doctors shall provide specialist, clinical, social and holistic care while undertaking clinical assessment and interventions in the pre-hospital environment. This will mainly involve working in mobile treatment centres or temporary event medical centres.
Successful candidates will be registered registered medical practitioners with the GMC, without cautions or restrictions, and hold a license to practice outside of an approved practice setting.

We are recruiting Youth Helpers to assist at our various Cadet and Badger groups in the Barking Dagenham and Newham Network.
Youth Helpers work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units by supporting our Youth Leaders to deliver a sessions across our range of programmes. In this role, you'll support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens. Youth Helpers also help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be, as well as supervise and support other adult volunteers in their team.

About the role
Our Board of Trustees is made up of eight individuals who bring a wealth of skills and experience to the organisation. As we look to expand our profile as well as strengthen our governance and clinical expertise, we are now seeking to appoint an additional Trustee with a senior background in medicine, ophthalmology, optometry, or a related field. This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping our funding strategy, advising on clinical and research priorities, and acting as an ambassador to grow our networks and influence.
Who we are looking for
We are seeking a senior clinician, medical professional, or academic, ideally with expertise relevant to eye health, ophthalmology, optometry or translational research. You will bring knowledge and insight to strengthen our Board and help guide our ambitious research strategy. Knowledge of how grant funding is used within eye research from a clinical aspect, as well as knowledge of intellectual property, would also be beneficial. You will also be someone who shares our determination and will support us to raise awareness and increase the volume and quality of applications for grant funding.

About the Role
We’re looking for two National Clinical Officers (Paramedicine & AHPs) to join our National Clinical Team.
These key volunteer leadership roles will provide strategic clinical leadership, management, and expert advice to ensure our clinical services remain safe, compliant, and of the highest quality.
Working closely with the National Clinical Lead (Paramedicine & AHPs) and the wider National Clinical Team, you’ll help shape the direction of Paramedicine and Allied Health Professional practice across St John Ambulance Cymru.
