About the role
Our volunteers champion the rights of young people in care and on the edges of care, support them to access advocacy and make their voices heard. Training is provided. Whether you are currently studying, recently graduated, working part-time, retired or between jobs, volunteering with Coram Voice is a great opportunity to make a difference at the same time as gaining experience of working for a national children’s rights charity.
Our Helpline Supervisors will support you to develop valuable advocacy skills and knowledge of children’s rights and we offer specialist training in safeguarding, equality and diversity and advocacy. This training and other resources will help you to prepare for the role. You will be joining a team that provides quality support to young people in a friendly and supportive environment.
Our volunteer team is integral to our service and we could not provide the service we do without them, particularly in terms of the support we offer to homeless children.
We believe this role will be of particular interest to anyone looking to develop a career involving giving advice, advocacy, children’s and human rights, legal work, social work or youth work; or for professionals in those fields who want to use their experience to support the work of a children’s charity.

Background
Home-Start North and West Gloucestershire exists to offer support to families with children under 5 living in Tewkesbury, Cheltenham and the Forest of Dean. We are part of Home-Start UK.
Thanks to our dedicated team of volunteers and staff, we are able to work alongside parents and help them navigate the challenges they are facing in their parenting journey to help give children the best possible start in life.
The Treasurer and Trustee Role
We are looking for a treasurer to join the Board of Trustees and to take the financial lead on our board. The ideal candidate will have experience of finance management and is able to help ensure the right operational and strategic decisions are made for the long-term future stability of the charity.
Key Responsibilities:

Liaise with the Home Start Team and Trustees to ensure the long-term financial viability of the charity.

Present the financial position and broader context at Trustee meetings.

Work in partnership with the Operations Manager/Finance Lead and clearly understand the financial needs of the charity giving financial support when required.

Oversee the production of our annual budgets and work closely with our accountants. To also give input when required to our payroll provider.

Ensure the Board of Trustees are aware of their financial duties, responsibilities and communicate how they need to comply with all legislation.

To work in line with best practice and in compliance with the governing document and legal requirements set out by Home-Start UK.

Provide oversight and guidance where necessary of accounts prepared for funders and relevant statutory bodies.

Act as counter signatory on charity cheques and some applications to funders, approve payments on banking systems and spending approval in accordance with financial management processes.

Ensure that all financial policies, procedures and external financial advisors are reviewed when required.
You should:

Have knowledge and experience of accounting and audit practices.

Be able to interrogate and interpret financial statements.

Be able to communicate financial information in a meaningful and understandable way.

Have strong working knowledge of accounting software (we use Xero).

Time requirement:
The role will require a time commitment of approximately 10 hours per month.
This includes up to 12 board meetings a year of approximately 2 hours each (some held online and some in our Winchcombe office) and the Home-Start NW Gloucestershire AGM.
You may also need to attend some meetings with the operations manager, finance lead and our external accountant to ensure clarity of finances and direct where required.
Term of office:
The Treasurer’s initial term is two years.
The trustees can then re-elect for a further one, two or three term(s) if the Treasurer would like to continue their position.
Remuneration:
Trustee positions are voluntary roles.

The treasurer will have:

While work may be delegated to a subcommittee or paid staff, the treasurer will exercise a supervisory role to ensure that all the financial responsibilities are met.

Job description
Team Up is looking for dynamic volunteer tutors to help transform the life chances of underachieving pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
About Team Up
Team Up tutor disadvantaged children in Maths and English to double their progress, help them gain confidence and improve their future prospects. We do this with the help of inspirational volunteer tutors, alongside a team of qualified professionals.
We partner with schools across London to deliver our 10-12 week tuition programme during the Autumn, Spring and Summer school terms. Tutors receive training and ongoing support from their programme manager throughout the programme. Our programma managers attend each session with the volunteers and liaise with the partner to ensure the programme runs smoothly.
About the role
You will be matched to a small number of pupils and we will supply you with training and materials to deliver engaging tuition sessions. Your tutor group will consist of up to four pupils of a similar level who are currently underperforming and provide them with the academic support and encouragement they need to get back on track.

Summary of responsibilities:

Deliver weekly 60-90 minute tuition sessions in a local school

Suggested 30 mins for lesson planning each week

Use the resources provided to prepare inspiring lessons

Drive results by submitting and reflecting on performance data with support of your Programme Manager
What you can expect from us:

Full tutor-training, and the provision of detailed lesson plans and resources

Ongoing coaching, training and support from an experienced teacher who will be assigned to support you over the course of the programme

Lesson observations alongside personalised developmental feedback and logged classroom hours
What we’re looking for:

Enthusiasm and strong grades in the subject you wish to tutor in

Committed and organised individuals who are keen to develop new skills
Practical Considerations:

Sessions will take place on a fixed day of the week, normally at the end of the school day (between 3-5pm) or on a Saturday morning

Each programme runs for a school term - Summer (May to Jul), Autumn (Sep to Dec) and Spring (Jan to Apr). You will be expected to volunteer for at least ten weeks (one school term)

This role requires you to undergo a free of charge DBS check which will be arranged by Team Up

All our programmes are delivered in person

Reasonable travel expenses are covered
