But there is also a huge amount of untapped potential in Nottingham, and we consider it our duty to unearth talent and aspiration to enrich the lives of our local population.

To support our continued ambition, we are looking to appoint new Board Members (Governors) to our Corporation Board – the governing body of our College. We are specifically looking for talented people who can add value to the discussions which take place at the Board and its committees by providing support and challenge to our leadership through the appraisal of reports, plans and strategies. Based on our plans for Nottingham College we welcome interest from those with substantial leadership experience in the following sectors:

• Education (FE Curriculum & Quality)
• Audit (Professionally qualified)
• Strategic HR (Employee relations, workforce planning & employment law)

Whilst having non-executive/board-level experience is desirable, what’s more important to us is your ability to work as part of our Board and provide the scrutiny required in an organisation of this size from a place of experience. As a Member of our Corporation Board, you will become an integral part of the governance and oversight at the College.

You should live or work locally to Nottingham as your attendance will be required at the meetings of the Corporation Board, which meets four times per year. All Members are expected to join a committee of the Board, plus attend a strategy day and an open day, which we can discuss this with you on your appointment.

Upmo are an Edinburgh-based charity that provides support and opportunity for adults with learning disabilities and autism across Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian. Upmo was founded in 2006 by Josh Barton and inspired by the belief that services for adults could truly be exciting, dynamic and meaningful.

In 2006, adults with learning disabilities lacked opportunities in higher education and there was a lack of understanding around individual needs. Those who understood the needs of service users operated with limited scope to encourage, inspire and motivate. As a result, many service users were isolated and desperately in need of opportunities to become more socially engaged, active and valued.

The response from Upmo was combining progressive learning within an educational curriculum and the development of support service provision – placing the needs of students at the heart of services. Distinguishing themselves by adopting an unconventional approach, Upmo provides custom-tailored support services alongside a well-regarded curriculum featuring creative workshops, educational activities, and vocational programs. The charity has also expanded its impact through a growing number of social enterprises aimed at creating job opportunities and preparing students for employment.

Upmo are looking for a number of committed and motivated individuals, from any background, to join their Board of Trustees and to help steer Upmo through a time of exciting opportunity and development.

As members of the Board, Trustees have the overall responsibility of running the charity. The current Trustees come from a diverse range of backgrounds, and through their wide-ranging and complimentary skills and life experience, contribute to the strategy and oversight of the charity’s operations. We are looking for a trustee to join one of our subcommittees, that looks after the provision and future of our Almshouses, as well as participate in our full Board of trustees.

As  the oldest charity in England (formed in 1451) we want a new trustee to join our Board, to cooperatively govern our organisation alongside other trustees. Wokingham United Charities has a mission to relieve poverty and enhance the quality of life of those people in need in our community. We do this by our Almshouse accommodation, as well as using our funds to help alleviate financial distress, hardship and poverty.

Our usual income per annum is ~£700k, but we’ve been managing funds to help to relieve poverty in the midst of this cost-of-living crisis, and recently our turnover has been ~£1.5m. Of that, some £160k p.a. is income and usual expenditure for our Almshouses.

The role and what we are looking for in a new trustee

Trustees are the people who make the top-level decisions for our charity. Our Board includes people with experience and skills in governing our charity, and we’d expect our new trustee to have strong empathy with our cause and our beneficiaries. If you can think strategically and plan long-term, you have the primary skills we need.

Our Westende subcommittee meets every two months, and we want you to join this group, as well as becoming a trustee and thus joining the Board. The subcommittee devises and analyses plans for the Almshouses, as well as overseeing the operational delivery that is managed by our Westende Manager.

You don’t necessarily need prior experience of trusteeship, as full induction to our organisation and operations will be provided, plus specialist support for a new trustee, including access to external training.

We are a charity not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We are looking for people from a variety of backgrounds and we’d like to expand the diversity of our Board, in all meanings, thus strongly welcome applications from people from less-represented groups.

Care for Veterans (CfV) was established in 1919 as the Queen Alexandra Hospital Home to care for soldiers returning from World War I with life-changing disabilities. For over 100 years, it has provided long term nursing, rehabilitation, respite and end of life care to Veterans and their families. The 60-bed home has been at Gifford House in Worthing since 1933.

About Saint Francis Hospice

Saint Francis Hospice is the main local provider of hospice care. The hospice has 18 specialist palliative care beds on its Ward within the Hospice. It also has an active well-being and day therapy service which provides one-to-one clinical and therapy appointments, as well as group wellbeing activities. 85% of our care is undertaken within the community.

These services are for anyone affected by advanced, progressive disease living in any of our catchment boroughs as shown on our map below. All areas are also covered by our hospice 24-hour Specialist Advice Line and by our Hospice at Home team; a team particularly supporting family and friends, and carers in the last few weeks of life.

We have a range of Well-being services including Bereavement Support for adults and Children, and our Orangeline support services for people in need of support during times of loneliness and loss.

The hospice is also the provider of specialist community and crisis support to people at home and in care homes in Barking & Dagenham, Havering and South West Essex, via a nurse-led specialist team. In Redbridge, that community specialist support is provided by the NHS and other care partners. Partnerships between our local Hospital Trusts and the hospice are well established including in the areas of end of life care services, education, out-of-hours consultant cover, shared cover for senior doctors between hospice and hospital and widening access to specialist palliative care services.

The hospice has an Education Centre on site offering a range of bespoke training and development opportunities for our staff and partner organisations. We offer junior doctor training and work closely with Southbank University providing BSc and MSc Palliative care programmes.

Our care strategy focuses on meeting growing demand whilst still delivering care tailored to each individual. It also includes an emphasis on the teaching, training and support of family, friends and our health and care partners and providers.

Trustees play an active role in setting the strategic direction of the Trust, implementing policies to safeguard assets, and promoting the Trust’s growth and sustainability.

As a Trustee, you will have a direct impact on the success of our schools, so it is essential that you are passionate about providing the best opportunities for our children and staff and possess the strategic leadership skills to support and challenge our leaders effectively.

Abbey MAT values a culture that places learners at the heart of everything we do. Therefore, we need our Trust Board to reflect these values and work toward creating the best environment for our students.

Our Trust Board members serve as registered directors, responsible for ensuring clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction. About the role.

Due to current Governors’ terms of office coming to an end, we have taken time to consider the breadth of skills, networks, and experience currently represented on our Governing Body, and where additional talent and expertise could add value. When considering our ambitious strategy, which is included on this microsite, we welcome the interest of committed governors who have the time and interest to contribute to our strategic planning and act as a critical friend to our Principal & CEO and her leadership team.

Governors, together, make up the non-executive governing board of Solihull College & University Centre – known as the Corporation. The work of a Member of the Corporation (Governor) in setting the strategic direction of Solihull College & University Centre and providing effective oversight is central to the success of the College.

By becoming a Governor of Solihull College & University Centre, you will be joining a high-performing board and successful education and skills-focused organisation. This is your opportunity to steer provision that benefits the students, the West Midlands’ communities, and employers directly. Being a Governor of Solihull College & University Centre is hugely rewarding and is an opportunity to make a real difference to the education standards, curriculum provision, and, importantly, the experience of our learners and apprentices.

Whilst in some respects the role of the Corporation can be summed up as one of exercising “oversight” of the College and its business, the term should not be taken to imply in any sense a passive or merely symbolic role. The Corporation is accountable for the financial solvency of the College, its sound management, the quality of the service which it provides, and its educational character. The Corporation is also accountable for the proper use of the public funds entrusted to it.

Sound governance requires more than simply ensuring that the books balance and that the Principal & CEO is getting on with the business of running the organisation within the parameters established by the governors. Colleges must be able to respond to changes in direction of government policy and anticipate changing needs in their communities. The Corporation must be actively involved in reviewing the role of the College and in planning and managing change to ensure the long-term health and success of Solihull College & University Centre.

There are seven meetings of the Corporation throughout the academic year (September through to July), plus two additional development days held on a Saturday. In addition to this, there are additional meetings of the Search & Governance Committee, the Audit & Risk Committee, the Remuneration Committee, and the Financial Oversight Group.

Opportunities for Governors to participate in visits and meetings with students are arranged throughout the year. It is expected that – with preparation for meetings, liaison with the College, and training – Governors should plan to spend a minimum of six hours per month undertaking the responsibilities of the role; including reading papers, visiting the College, and attending meetings.

Who we are looking for.

As Solihull College & University Centre has two campuses in Solihull (Blossomfield and Woodlands), a college campus in Stratford-upon-Avon and is the lead partner for Greater Birmingham & Solihull Institute of Technology with a campus in Birmingham, we feel it is important you live, work, or have a strong connection with the West Midlands region.

To support our strategic ambitions, we are looking to appoint two non-executive Governors to our Corporation – the Governing Body of Solihull College & University Centre.

We are specifically looking for talented people who can add value to the discussions which take place at the Corporation, its committees, and any special interest groups, by providing support and challenge to our leadership through the appraisal of reports, plans, and strategies.

We very much welcome interest from those with substantial leadership experience in the following sectors:

1. Estates (Capital Projects, or Property Management, or Environmental Sustainability)
2. Finance (Professional Qualified)

Whilst having non-executive/board-level experience is desirable, what’s more important to us is your ability to work as part of our Corporation and provide the scrutiny required in an organisation of this size from a place of experience.

We need you to have a fundamental belief in the power of education and training, and how it can transform not just lives, but communities of people.
