A bit about this role
As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising events organisers have the exciting and varied role of helping plan and deliver local fundraising events to raise the vital funds needed to help our feline friends. Our fundraising events organisers use their passion for cats and people to plan cake sales, barn dances, quiz nights and everything in between.
What can you expect to be doing?
- Planning fundraising events and activities like cake sales, quiz nights and barn dances
- Providing the treasurer with information on funds raised from fundraising events
- Encouraging and promoting a professional image of Cats Protection
- Following policies and guidelines and ensuring licences and permits are obtained for events

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. To make sure this is the case, we provide support and guidance both remotely from our National Cat Centre and face to face through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We also offer varied online and face-to-face training and have wide-ranging policies covering all aspects of volunteering. Interested in volunteering with Cumbria Wildlife Trust on the ‘The Bay: A Blueprint for Recovery’ project? The Bay is a nature and wellbeing programme of events, offering people living around Morecambe Bay area, the opportunity to get outdoors, connect with nature, and take part in a range of activities. Barrow-in-Furness is at the northernmost point of the Bay project area.

Becoming a community events volunteer, is a unique opportunity to learn new conservation and people skills. Community event volunteers help to connect people to nature and also help people take action to protect wildlife.
We are looking for volunteers to help set up and support the delivery of events which may include coastal stargazing, UV rock pooling, guided walks, codebreaking, egg case hunts, and craft activities. We also go into organisations such as care homes with our ‘portable rockpool’ to bring a little bit of nature to people who would struggle to get outdoors.
You don’t need to be a wading bird or starfish expert, just have a natural enthusiasm for the all the wildlife that you and event visitors will encounter.
This community focused role is based indoors or outdoors.
This is a very flexible role.
You can choose the events you’d like to help with.
Training, hot brews and support will be provided.
Travel costs will be reimbursed and lift sharing can often be arranged on request.
Please note DBS (paid by Cumbria Wildlife Trust) may be required. Safeguarding training will also be provided.

The training day will take you through how to set up, run and record a Shoresearch survey. This is the Wildlife Trust’s intertidal monitoring programme and at low tide we will do a rocky shore survey, where we lay a transect and along the shore, and do 12 randomly placed quadrats recording all of the species found in each. We will also focus on coastal awareness and species ID, as well as group management, communication and leadership skills.

We are seeking a new Secretary to undertake administrative duties to support the board of trustees of the African Bird Club in fulfilling its responsibility for the good governance of the charity and in delivering its strategy. Role
You will be picking up patients and bringing them in to ellenor for our Therapeutic Activity groups. We require patients to be brought in to the Hospice or to The Manor Hotel by 10:30am and returned to their own home at 3pm. You are not required to stay for the duration of the activity.
You may drive either your own vehicle or we will provide training to drive a company mini bus.
We also require driver escorts to help on the minibus too, who will assist patients on and off the bus for these activities.
Due to building works at the Hospice Northfleet, patients are currently attending the Best Western Manor Hotel, Gravesend.
Skills
Positive attitude and great people skills.
Full clean driving licence, if using your own vehicle you will need to produce documents for verification eg: MOT, Insurance.
If you wish to use the minibus, training will be provided by KCC, expenses for this will be covered but flexibility to attend will be required.

The National Institute for African Studies (NIAS) is a London-based think tank that provides objective information on African affairs, looking to appoint a Research & Publishing Intern within its office in Central London. Our main publication, The Saharan is an interdisciplinary journal published by NIAS aimed at exploring the dynamic relationship between culture and development in Africa.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Support the editors in the sourcing & production of blog and journal publications
- Checking material for completeness, copy-edit and check appropriate non-technical material such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter updates
- Generate, check and correct files with names, contact information, number of articles, review assessments, and consent forms.
- Serve as a custodian of approved originals of all documentation produced for The Saharan journal
- Use NIAS LinkedIn account to connect to academics and groups to promote the journal, acquire papers, and attract skilled scholars to become reviewers
- Coordinate the publication flow of the journal and all stages of the editorial processes upon the release of each issue
- Review and adjust publications according to the style of the journal, ensuring the correct usage of references and plagiarism checking
