Prospect Hospice is looking for new talented and passionate trustees with senior fundraising, clinical practice or commercial experience to join our Board of Trustees. These are challenging times for UK Hospices, and you will play a crucial role in shaping the future. If you have time, like rising to a challenge and drawing on your skills, experience and networks to help us succeed then we want to hear from you.  You don’t need to have been a trustee before, professional experience and time available is more important and in turn you will develop your skills and become a valued and critical part of our outstanding organisation while adding value to the community!

 The Background

Over four decades, Prospect Hospice has become the organisation that people in Swindon, Marlborough and north Wiltshire turn to when they, or the people they love, are diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. We have cared for and supported thousands of local people, which is why so many people contribute in their own way to a charity that makes a positive difference in our community.

Our vision is ‘A community where death is no longer a taboo, and everyone has the right to live and die well’. At Prospect Hospice, our patients and their loved one, our staff and our volunteers are at the centre of all that we do. Working with local health and social care partners, and stakeholders from across the community, we have a vital role in improving end-of-life care for everyone.

We are looking for up to four new Trustees who can support our mission to work with and through others using our skills and expertise, so that people have a choice and support at the end of their life.

Our Board usually meets four times each year, in addition to which Trustees are asked to also join one of our quarterly sub committees which also meet four times a year. While it would be beneficial for Trustees to be willing/able to contribute to Prospect related activity outside meetings, for example to participate in specific project-focused tasks or attending and representing the Charity at external events, this is not essential.

Who are we looking for?

Our Board of Trustee team has responsibility for overseeing our strategy and performance and we are looking for people who have time and will bring the enthusiasm, experience and commitment we need to help guide the Hospice through the next phase of its development. You will have the ability to be an effective role model and influencer and be committed to the vision, mission and values of Prospect Hospice, maintaining a genuine interest in our work. You will be a strategic and creative thinker and be able to work effectively as part of a team.

We are particularly interested to hear from candidates with relevant experience and professionally qualified in the following areas:

Fundraising – Extensive experience in both mass-market and relationship fundraising. We are seeking someone who also has a broad mix of expertise in and understanding of key, income streams and innovative fundraising approaches.

Commercial leadership, Growth mindset:
Experience in setting up and growing organisations, managing income and expenditure, and ensuring profitability. Proven ability to build partnerships and optimise operational efficiency. Experience in a start-up environment or with entrepreneurial ventures, supporting the development and launch of new income-generating initiatives, would be desirable though not essential.

Clinical - We are seeking a registered clinical professional—either a nurse or allied health professional (AHP)—to join our Board of Trustees. Ideally, you will bring previous board or senior leadership experience and a strong understanding of clinical governance.  You will provide expert clinical insight to help ensure the hospice maintains the highest standards of patient care and safety. You will advise the Board and Executive Team on clinical matters, monitor care quality and resource efficiency, ensure compliance with relevant clinical regulations (including safeguarding), and support the delivery of our clinical strategy.

Hillingdon Women’s Centre is seeking to recruit enthusiastic new Trustees to join our existing Board and actively contribute to the existing strength and growth of the charity!

About

Trustees typically attend monthly board meetings, with occasional activities between meetings. The estimated time commitment is around 2 hours per typical month. New trustees will be supported with induction and access to ongoing training, including safeguarding and governance. Terms of Appointment

• This is a voluntary position; reasonable expenses will be reimbursed if required to travel for meetings.
• Trustees are expected to attend virtual Board meetings twice a year (usually June and December) and participate in occasional sub-committees or events (virtual or in-person). Online meetings are limited to 1.5-hours.
• The initial term is three years, with the option of renewal for a further three years.
• It is a criminal offence for an individual to serve as a Trustee if disqualified from doing so. Appropriate checks will be carried out to ensure that individuals who have been selected to become a Trustee are eligible. These checks will include references and Charity Commission/Companies House verification.
• There will be an initial probationary period of 1-year.
• Trustees are subject to our governing documents.

The Farm Animal Sanctuary was established nearly 40 years ago. We have, since then, rescued animals from neglect, abuse, or offered a forever home to those who need it. The animals are cared for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The animals who live with us are more than just residents—they’re part of our family. They are cared for by a truly dedicated team of staff and volunteers. We are entering a new and exciting phase for the charity, where we are wanting to expand our reach, increase our visibility, and raise much needed funds for the charity to ensure the lives of our animals are supported for many many years to come. From Tiny the goat, Neville the sheep, Twiglet the pig, and Judy the chicken, they are all at the heart of what we do.  Trustees play a vital role in supporting our residents, its rewards are vast, and you'll be making a real difference.

For over 180 years, Reedham Children’s Trust has provided support to the most vulnerable children and young people in Croydon. We believe every child deserves a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life, and we know that when the right support is offered, family problems and disadvantage need not continue through generations.

Reedham Children’s Trust funds local projects and innovative programmes to tackle the barriers and challenges that too many children and young people in Croydon face daily - which is why we are exploring a merger with Croydon Voluntary Action to create a dynamic new entity that will ensure Reedham’s legacy can continue through new strands and activity.

Our Trustees already play an important role in helping our charity fulfil its ambitions and aspirations by supporting the strategy, providing robust governance and being ambassadors for our work. In particular, candidates with experience of change management, fundraising, marketing/branding and the delivery of projects and services in a local community like Croydon would help during this exciting chapter.

Quartet Community Foundation is seeking a new chair of trustees to lead our dynamic and committed Board.

Quartet distributes approximately £5 million across  1,000 grants each year to support local communities and charities in the region. ​Trustees on our Board  actively contribute to setting the strategic direction of Quartet, helping to advise and run the organisation. As Chair of Trustees, you will work with other members of the Board to form an effective, accountable governing body which provides leadership and support for the dedicated staff team in delivering Quartet’s strategic plan.​

The role of the Chair of Trustees

The chair, along with their deputy is appointed by the Board with the following key responsibilities: ​

• To effectively chair board meetings, ensuring that the board  considers and observes best practice governance of Quartet. ​
• To be actively engaged in setting the strategic direction and policy of Quartet.​​
• To contribute to the performance management and review of the strategic plan and related targets.​​
• To help set and agree a balanced financial budget and support the Chief Executive Officer and staff in remaining within it.​​
• To be an ambassador and advocate for the work of Quartet in the wider community, including representation at evening and daytime events (with and sometimes as a substitute for the CEO). ​
• To support the CEO in their work, conducting an annual appraisal of their work and setting realistic goals in agreement with them.​
• To participate in grant-making panels as a representative of Quartet, as required and to visit at least one funded project per year.​​
• To attend quarterly board meetings, the AGM, meetings of our four sub-committees, and chair of chairs meetings. ​
• To ensure that Quartet complies with its Memorandum and Articles of Association, charity law, company law, internal policies and procedures, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.​​
• To participate as appropriate in the national network of community foundations, contribute to its development and set the work of Quartet in the wider context.  This usually involves two days a year at a UKCF south west chairs and CEOs workshop.​
• ​Joining trustees are supported to understand and engage with all of these elements, and the successful candidate will also be offered the opportunity to shadow the existing chair  for 6-9 months, before she leaves the role in 2026.

ATSF is looking to recruit two new members to its board of trustees - one with educational experience and the second a more general trustee- to help shape its future and support education in Greater London.

Organisation background

The Foundation is an unincorporated registered charity that is currently going through a period of transition. It has existed in different forms for more than three centuries. The Foundation was established to teach practical and academic skills to equip “poor boys for trades or university”.  Until recently it fulfilled its educational charitable objective by providing land, buildings and grants to a school in Oval. Following the closure and sale of that school in 2023, the Trustees are entering an exciting new phase in the Foundation’s story.  They are reviewing how to deliver the best educational outcomes for young people in the area of benefit, Greater London, and are looking to work with local schools, partners and stakeholders to achieve this.

Required skills and experience

Educational Trustee –  an applicant should have an understanding of local educational needs -either in the area of benefit or within specific areas of Greater London. They should have experience of working with stakeholders involved in education and a willingness to liaise with those stakeholders, potential grantee schools and other partners. The Trustees want to provide support where it will be most effective and a background in educational funding would be an advantage as would a willingness to develop a collaborative relationship with new grantee schools.

General Trustee
A successful applicant will play an important role in overseeing our activities and in ensuring we continue to pursue our objectives effectively and responsibly. Ideally an applicant should have experience with grant making or other charitable organisations and with helping formulate important strategic decisions to provide long term educational benefit.

Role requirements

Trustees are appointed for an initial term of four years.  They are expected to attend trustee meetings which are currently held every two to three months, sometimes online and sometimes in person in London - most commonly online at 4pm.

Trustees are also expected to contribute to the occasional email request or discussion.

The role is unpaid and voluntary.

Waterloo Community Counselling is currently recruiting Finance and Fundraising trustees to join the board. As a trustee, you’ll have the chance to contribute to our primary purpose by assisting in the effective management and administration of the charity.

Waterloo Community Counselling (WCC) delivers life-changing counselling and mental health support for Londoners that is affordable and accessible.

In the heart of Waterloo, we offer long-term talking therapy on a reduced fee/sliding scale basis, reaching adults from diverse backgrounds who have experienced loss, abuse, and trauma.

Our unique Multi-Ethnic Counselling Service (MECS) provides free mother-tongue counselling to migrants, refugees and asylum seekers who have survived exile,

The role

We do not expect you to have previous trustee or Board experience, we can offer a comprehensive training package when you join our Board, and you can gain firsthand experience and expertise in being a charity trustee. Finance Trustee- One Role

Specific responsibilities of a finance trustee

• Support and provide advice on WCC’s purpose, vision, goals, and activities

• Oversee WCC’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress

• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored, and controlled effectively

• Review and approve WCC’s financial reports and statements

• Provide support and challenge to WCC’s senior manager in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs

• Support the Finance Manager in ensuring trustees understand financial reports as it is a group responsibility of all trustees to understand and agree with the financial affairs of the charity

• Contribute to regular reviews of WCC’s governance. Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.

• Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect WCC’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third-party interestsPersonal skills and qualities

• Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as trustees and to act in the best interests of the organisation

Who we are looking for:

In this finance trustee role, we are looking for a qualified accountant and member of recognised UK accounting body, so you will be an experienced financial professional preferably with knowledge of charity accounting. The finance trustee will be able to apply this strategically to support with budget forecasting and financial planning.

Fundraising Trustee- One Role

Duties of a fundraising trustee:

• Support and provide advice on WCC’s purpose, vision, goals, and activities

• Oversee WCC’s fundraising plans and work with the CEO to monitor and evaluate progress

• Supporting the delivery of a realistic but ambitious funding pipeline

• Work with the CEO to identify new funding opportunities and income streams, and build new relationships

• Ensure that key funding risks are being identified, monitored, and controlled effectively

• Contribute to regular reviews of WCC’s own governance. Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.

• Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect WCC’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third-party interests

Time commitment- approximately 10 hours per month

• Board meetings- attending four Board meetings annually (currently on Tuesday evenings). We alternate between meeting in-person at WCC’s office in Waterloo and online

• Sub-committees- we have two subcommittees (Finance & Operations, and Clinical) that meet in between Board meetings, with finance trustees attending Finance and Operations subcommittee

• Regular contact and discussion with WCC’s CEO and Chair on all fundraising plans including horizon scanning

• Two half day strategy days a year and training where needed

• Reading Board papers in advance, being involved in discussions, advising on specialist areas

• We hold an Annual General Meeting with all staff and members.

Barnet Mencap is a thriving medium-sized charity for people with learning disabilities and people with autism and their family carers.

We are looking for people who are interested in making a contribution to their local community. Do you have skills to offer a local charity that could make an impact and improve and change people’s lives?

As a voluntary trustee you would be part of a dynamic and dedicated team that focuses on the strategic direction and governance of the charity and become an ambassador for Barnet Mencap.
