Trustees are incredible volunteers and play an essential role in helping us carry out our vital animal welfare work every day by managing the affairs of your local RSPCA Branch to promote and provide animal welfare within the branch area.

Being a Trustee is an excellent opportunity to give back and gain skills and experience. As a Trustee of an independent local charity, you’ll have the chance to influence our strategy and development at a time that sees significant growth for us following a recent merger.

We meet on the second Tuesday evening once a month , currently virtually, and have opportunities to be involved in additional projects and committees if you wish. You’ll need to be committed to ensuring good governance, give some time to read papers prior to meetings and keep up-to-date with correspondence about important matters.

Finance Volunteer

We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, listeners, organisers, ambassadors and fundraisers. Our volunteers are a key part of achieving our goals and their support is vital. Join us.

About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Finance Volunteer for our Haringey Group. As a Finance Volunteer, you would be joining a coordinating team of volunteers to plan and deliver services and activities to support people locally.

You will maintain and approve income and expenditure records and explain financial information clearly to other group members. You would ensure our financial requirements and policies are followed, and that money is spent in a cost effective manner.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience with a large charity, develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be comfortable with figures, preferably with an accounting or business background.

As a Host, you will be the first point of contact for patients, their guests, and other visitors to the hospice. Always wearing a friendly smile, you’ll be there to greet and guide, lend a listening ear and be on-hand to carry out support tasks. No day is ever the same!

As a Host, you will also be able to serve patients and customers at our Café. This is a great opportunity to start your volunteering journey at ellenor.

As a volunteer group coordinator, you will set up or coordinate an activity group in your local area.

You will coordinate activity-based groups for people aged 75 and over in community centres, pubs or church spaces. Groups will host activity guests, along with our volunteer drivers who pick up and drop off our activity guests.

Activities can vary from chair fitness, dancing, yoga and boules to singing, Tai-Chi or coming up with your own activity to get people moving. Groups meet for around two hours on a monthly or fortnightly basis and activities must be inclusive for all activity guests.

You will be required to complete a DBS check for this role, for which Re-engage will cover the cost.

Tasks include:

• Setting up and coordinating a monthly or fortnightly activity group, with the support of Re-engage.
• Contacting volunteers and contacting activity guests prior to each activity group.
• Arranging the activities for the group. Activities must have an element of light physical activity.
• Keeping in regular contact with your group of volunteers and sharing any updates from Re-engage that are relevant to them.
• Following the guidance in your training modules to ensure that your group activity sessions are enjoyable, appropriate and in line with our charitable aims.

This is a voluntary role that will require you to organise the monthly or fortnightly activity groups which usually take place in the same venue.

If you are setting up a new group in your area, it is your role to support setting up these groups, sourcing a venue, arranging an activity, and ensuring activity guests and volunteers are contacted prior to the monthly or fortnightly group activities.

Attendance is not essential at every group but is expected periodically throughout the year. You will need to confirm attendance with our volunteer drivers and activity leads who will arrange pick-ups.

This is a long-term voluntary role, so we are ideally looking for individuals who can commit to volunteering with us for at least 12 months.

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit a Support Volunteer for the Stockport and South East Manchester Group. As our local group Support Volunteer you’ll help people affected by MS find information about local and national services. In this role you’ll be able to develop your listening and communication skills, as well as your knowledge of local services. Most importantly you’ll help people affected by MS to access the help they need.

Time commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

Purpose and Aims of the role: 

We are looking for volunteers who can provide a strong foundation to help strengthen their communities by helping Care Experienced children and young people engage in activities to build their skills and confidence and to be included, understood, respected, and valued in their communities.

The Group Work Volunteer role will work alongside our innovative and energetic Edinburgh project team, supporting to raise awareness of Care Experience and supporting activities for young people, providing supportive adults to ensure all children and young people can thrive, bringing communities together.

This role will involve interacting with young people aged 5-17 through supporting and leading on a variety of activities e.g. arts/crafts/sports/general youth work at our fortnightly/monthly sessions as well as at our National events that happen throughout the year. This role will help build community strengths for Care Experienced people and provide social networks to help build resilience and positive outcomes for children and young people.

ROLE SUMMARY:

To support artists and the Zest Medway Coordinator in the delivery of creative sessions for people living with dementia, their family, friends and carers.

To work directly with participants with complex needs, enabling them to engage with each session.

ABOUT US:

Bright Shadow’s mission is to enable people living with dementia, and those affected by it, to live well and to thrive. We are experts in creative activities designed specifically for people with dementia to enable self-expression, social interaction and active participation. We do this in a number of ways, including our trademark Zest sessions for people living with dementia in the community.

We offer a range of volunteer opportunities, and are particularly looking for someone to work with our Zest group in Medway, which is launching in April 2024. This role is a wonderful opportunity to make a tangible impact on the lives of our participants by enabling those with more complex needs to engage with this group. Our Medway Zest group is one of four Zest groups that meet; Deal, Hythe and Whitstable are already established groups who have been running for many years.

You will become part of a friendly team offering support and guidance, so your positive attitude is more important to us than specific experience. We offer all volunteers dementia awareness and safeguarding training, as well as requiring an enhanced DBS certificate.

Established in 2009, Bright Shadow is passionate about a brighter quality of care, which is invigorating, mood boosting and enhances relationships. We are adamant that life and fun shouldn’t stop once you reach a certain age or receive a diagnosis of dementia. POST REPORTS TO: Volunteer Coordinator and Zest Medway Coordinator 

LOCATION: Sunlight Centre, Richmond Road, Gillingham, ME7 1LX 

POSITION TYPE: Volunteer

HOURS REQUIRED: Tuesdays 9:45am - 12:15pm. We are equally looking for those who can commit on a regular basis, as well as those who would want to offer their time on a fixed basis (such as one month, 6 weeks etc).

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Understanding of or willingness to learn about living with dementia, including completing provided dementia awareness training

2. Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills and empathy

3. Enthusiasm to join in with performance and arts activities such as singing, movement and story making wherever possible and assisting participants to engage fully

4. Work closely with Zest Medway Coordinator to deliver a safe and high quality experience

5. Help Zest Medway Coordinator to prepare the room before sessions and clear up at the end where necessary

6. Help Zest Medway Coordinator to prepare refreshments for participants

7. Help the Zest Medway Coordinator with the collection of evaluation information 

8. Assist in documenting the sessions using photography, recording and/or film on equipment provided where necessary 

9. Work within all Bright Shadow policies, including Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Covid-19, Equality and GDPR compliance. This role is subject to the volunteer having an up to date enhanced DBS check carried out.

Competencies

Essential

As a Volunteer Housekeeping Assistant, you will help maintain the Hospice to our high standards of cleanliness. You will be an integral part of our ellenor team.

Some light cleaning duties will include:

• Hoovering
• Sweeping
• Mopping
• Polishing
• Laundry

Protective clothing and full training will be provided.

Housekeeping experience would be desirable but not essential. Must be able to work on your own.

We are looking to recruit an Administration Volunteer for the Solihull and District Group. Our Administration Volunteers are the linchpin for our local groups’ activities. They act as the first point of contact and they make sure all relevant information is circulated to other volunteers and members. And they play an important role in keeping our data and details up to date to comply with data protection legislation.

In this role you’ll develop your administration and organisation skills. Most importantly you’ll be help your local group run efficiently, so they can keep providing valuable services to our MS community.

About The Community Fridge Service

The RJ4All Community Fridge provides quality food to communities in South East London while simultaneously preventing food waste. Our Community Fridge is a social space that does not only meet the food needs of community members but also provide a space to connect with others

What will you be doing as a Food Waste Hero ?

• Collect surplus food from Tesco Surrey Quays on Sundays 4-6pm or Tesco Express Southwark Park Rd on Tuesdays at 8pm

Restorative Justice for All  (RJ4All) is a charitable, user-led international institute that was set up in 2013 by Theo Gavrielides with a mission to address poverty and advance community cohesion and human rights.

Clinical staff in our hospices provide a range of activities for patients and their families, which would not be possible without the support of our volunteers. We are looking for Activities Coordinators to help support clinical staff in the hospice by providing a welcoming and safe environment for men affected by terminal illness and by coordinating activity sessions.

What we need you to do

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

• Provide a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere which is appropriate for activities
• Welcome and chat to patients, carers and widowers
• Plan and deliver a programme of sessions for Men's Shed attendees for the group you are leading 
• Promote the Men's Shed within the hospice and the local community
• Identify equipment and material needs for activities and discuss with volunteer line manager
• Help with other related tasks as necessary

Through this exciting volunteer role, you will help us understand our services’ quality by 
listening to the people we support. You will help us by contacting people while they are 
receiving our services to make sure we are providing our patients and families with excellent 
care, and if there are issues, to help us nip things in the bud.

This role has the scope for broader conversations with people about their experiences at the 
end of life. Gaining insight and understanding allows us to ensure we’re there for all people 
experiencing dying, death and bereavement.

What we need you to do

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
• Speak with patients and families over the phone to complete surveys 
about their experiences of our care and support.
• Record data accurately, capturing as much as possible in the person’s 
own words.
• Input feedback data into online an online database. 
• If comfortable, undertake analysis of data to help us report on themes 
and trends; what we are doing well and what we can improve.
• Communicate with patients and families how we use their feedback and ideas to improve 
services, where appropriate.
• Work with the Clinical Nurse Managers to highlight any issues and concerns about the care 
provided in their services.
• Relay positive feedback to Marie Curie Nursing staff and volunteers. 
• If comfortable, conduct semi-structured interviews to understand peoples’ lived 
experiences of dying, death, and bereavement.

• The ability to deal with people in a warm, friendly, and sensitive manner.

Web Editor Volunteer Role Description

Are you passionate about changing the way we treat animals? Do you want to help reduce damage to our environment? Do you want to get people to enjoy healthy vegan food that looks good and tastes great? 

The Vegan Society makes veganism more accessible and an easily adopted approach by supporting individuals, policy and decision makers, caterers, manufacturers, health care professionals and the media. 

Why do we need you? 

Our website covers a huge range of topics, aimed to support people in becoming, and staying, vegan. Keeping all of these up to date takes a lot of hours and many hands, especially when it comes to pages that need regular updates involving sourcing and editing images, improving accessibility, and updating content.

What does the role involve? 

The role will involve a variety of different tasks in updating the website such as: 

• Assisting the web team with content migration for the society’s new website.
• Adding and updating the events page, which will include editing images and proofreading content for the page. 
• Reviewing and fixing pages with broken links. 
• Publishing and updating recipes on our recipes page. 
• Supporting with accessibility improvements to the site such as adding alt tags to images. 
• Undertaking search engine optimisation tasks, such as identifying key search terms and popular pages we could develop. 
• More advanced web editing and development tasks may be offered to volunteers depending on their skillset and level of experience. 

We expect that tasks will be assigned based on your experience and confidence in the area, with full support from the Web Officer. This would all happen in software we provide. Our website CMS currently is Drupal; however, we will be moving over to Umbraco soon, so you would become familiar with this.

What training and development is available? 

Each task will be introduced in a phased way, with a full induction and training session on each area. We will provide training for specific areas, based on your existing experience. There are opportunities for all our roles to develop and to take on more responsibility.

What skills would be useful in doing this role? 

• Familiarity with content management systems such as WordPress, Drupal or Umbraco would be an ideal foundation for this role. 
• Experience with web editing. 
• Ability to use digital systems and processes. 
• Knowledge and experience of image editing to specific dimensions. 
• Ability to work independently. 
• Willingness to learn and develop in the role. 

 What does my availability have to be? 

This role will require four to six hours a week. For the first month of volunteering, you will need to commit to these hours between 9:am-5:pm (GMT) so that staff support is directly available to you. After this we will have a review and, if you are comfortable, your hours can be completed more flexibly around your schedule. To keep up contact with staff and help you to manage your tasks, we will schedule a weekly check-in video call with you during weeks that you are volunteering for us.
