As a Grants and Funding Volunteer, you will play a vital role in supporting our work. You will:

We need volunteers in this role to help gather as much data as possible as part of our Wild Magic project, so we can see the way that new management techniques will impact upon wildlife, and how it contributes to The Owen Smith Charitable Trust; monitoring the changes in the numbers and types of species found at Wild Magic, and the changes in habitat provision.

We are aiming to undertake surveys and monitoring relating to birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and plant species. By volunteering you will be helping us to gain a better understanding of the species and habitats within the project area, and how the species, their populations and the habitat changes in relation to the management practices.

East London Rape Crisis provides a range of support services to women and girls affected by sexual violence; including an Information & Support service, counselling, advocacy and group workshops

About the role

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to become part of our team.

Our volunteers support women through our Information & Support Services, providing emotional and practical support to survivors of sexual violence, their friends, family and other professionals via telephone and email support. There are also opportunities to support the team with administrative tasks that do not involve direct contact with survivors.

You will get:

Key Responsibilities

Missing People’s award-winning helpline is there in those moments: providing vital support and working to ensure no one has to face this crisis alone. With new funding, we’re expanding our digital services — offering support not only through online chat and text, but also via WhatsApp. 

To make this possible, we’re recruiting Text and Chat Volunteers who can provide compassionate, safe, and reliable support remotely. By joining us, you’ll help more children, young people, and adults at risk – while volunteering in a flexible way that fits around your life. 

�� What you’ll be doing 

Using Missing People’s secure digital platforms (chat, text, and WhatsApp) you’ll provide sensitive, empathetic support to those who reach out. 

• Communicate compassionately with children, young people, and adults in crisis. 

• Explore and understand their situations, helping them access the right support. 

• Hear from young people running away, missing adults, and people who feel stuck and need guidance. 

• Support people who are worried about a missing person – such as family members. Provide them with advice to how to report someone missing and what to expect. 

• With the guidance of an experienced staff supervisor, help individuals reconnect safely with families and support networks. 

• Be a calm, reassuring presence – often at a critical moment in someone’s life. 

�� Qualities and skills we’re looking for 

No prior experience is required – we’ll provide full training. We are looking for someone who is: 

• A strong communicator (via text and chat) who is empathetic, patient, and non-judgemental. 

• Passionate about supporting vulnerable people. 

• Confident using computers, digital platforms such as Microsoft Office, email, and instant messaging (you’ll need your own PC or laptop and Wi-Fi capable of running our systems).

• Able to volunteer from a quiet, private space at home 

• Willing to complete an enhanced DBS check and provide references.

• Comprehensive training: A 6‑week online programme with 2 hours of self‑paced learning and a 2‑hour live session each week with fellow volunteers and helpline staff, followed by a shadowing and induction period. 

Training times: You will need to attend either six Wednesday evening sessions or six Saturday morning sessions. Please ensure you can commit to the relevant dates before applying, as completing these sessions is essential for progressing through the training.

• This role is fully home-based. 

• Shifts will be 7 days a week, afternoons (2.30pm-6pm) and evenings (6pm-10pm) – we ask for a commitment of 1 shift per week 

• There will also be a monthly group supervision call you will be expected to attend.

• Minimum commitment: 6 months+.

• Content Support: Collaborate with the social media and education teams to translate ideas and scripts into polished, engaging visuals

• Campaign Assets: Support event and program launches by designing posters, promo kits, and other visual collateral

• Revision & Feedback: Adapt designs based on team feedback while maintaining efficiency and quality

The National Outreach Officer Trustee leads on developing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, community organisations, and outreach partners. The role supports Hidayah’s national growth and helps ensure LGBTQ+ Muslims can access inclusive support, representation, and community connections.

Core Responsibilities

• Act as a key point of contact between Hidayah and external organisations, community groups, and stakeholders.
• Build and maintain relationships with LGBTQ+ organisations, faith groups, educational institutions, and community networks.
• Promote Hidayah’s events, campaigns, and services across relevant communities and platforms.
• Lead outreach initiatives to engage under-represented LGBTQ+ Muslim communities, including trans and intersex individuals.
• Develop, coordinate, and support a national network of outreach volunteers and representatives.
• Work collaboratively with external organisations to provide signposting and access to wellbeing, legal, financial, and community support services.
• Represent Hidayah at events, workshops, panels, and educational opportunities where appropriate.
• Encourage inclusive dialogue, partnership working, and stronger engagement across LGBTQ+ and faith communities.
• Support the growth, visibility, and positive representation of Hidayah nationally.

Trustee Responsibilities

• Attend Trustee Board meetings and provide regular updates and reports.
• Support Hidayah events, planning meetings, and fundraising activities.
• Engage with internal communications and shared systems (e.g., Discord and Google Drive).
• Respond to emails and communications promptly.
• Contribute to the Annual Report.
• Uphold Hidayah’s mission, values, and code of conduct.
• Serve until the next AGM (subject to a 6-month probation period).

Essential Knowledge & Experience

• Understanding of community outreach, partnership working, or stakeholder engagement.
• Knowledge of equality, diversity, inclusion, and safeguarding principles.
• Experience working in voluntary, community, or LGBTQ+ spaces (desirable).
• Ability to work at both strategic and operational levels.

Our Trustees support all aspects of our work, with the aim of providing strategic support, governance and assurance that enables us to continue to deliver our core service and increase the number of women we can support into work by dressing and coaching women for interview and job success. 

The time commitment for this voluntary, unpaid role is an average of a day a month, with more time given at busy periods of the year. There will be a requirement to attend board meetings, with some trustees also sitting on subcommittees that meet around 4 times a year. In addition, there are events to attend and occasional additional duties to support our wider work. 

Smart Works regularly completes board reviews and skills audits. At the current time, applicants with experience and knowledge in the following areas would be advantageous:
