We are looking to recruit new Trustees to the Cleeve School Board.  We are the largest secondary school in Gloucestershire and one of the most innovative, forward thinking and dynamic schools in the region.  We are specifically looking for people with a sound knowledge and experience of working on a Board, including chairing committees and panels.  We are also seeking to strengthen our finance expertise on the Board.

Worcestershire Association of Carers (WAC) is a well-established charity with passionate staff and volunteers who have a good reputation for delivering. We provide an independent expert source of information, advice and support for the thousands of unpaid adult carers in and around Worcestershire. We assist carers through a range of personalised services provided directly and through signposting to other sources of help. We are looking for an experienced financial manager who is based in a commutable distance from Worcester to join our Board as Treasurer. As well as being a trustee, you will oversee the financial administration of WAC, and advise the Board of Trustees on the Charity’s financial health, liaising with the Chief Executive and Finance Manager.

Managing risk and enhancing trust and confidence in policing

The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Thames Valley and the Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police (TVP) are seeking an exceptional individual to join their Audit and Risk Committee known as JIAC (Joint Independent Audit Committee).

This is a unique opportunity managing risk in England’s largest non-metropolitan police force, at a time of strategic growth and change.

The Committee provides a vital added layer of confidence which not only works to ensure that Thames Valley Police has efficient and effective assurance arrangements in place but also helps to assure the public that both TVP and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner are well-run and financially sound, building public trust and confidence in local policing.

In recent years JIAC has looked at how TVP improves critical processes including, ensuring safety in custody; ensuring fairness in interactions with the public; conducting thorough investigations with the right justice outcomes; managing cyber and information risk as well as engaging in the full breadth of financial control.

As a JIAC member, you will act as a “critical friend” bringing challenge in a constructive way. It is a stimulating and interesting role, and an opportunity to contribute significantly to society.

Candidates are required to be over the age of 18, and live or work in the Thames Valley area and be able to attend meetings at TVP Headquarters, Kidlington during the working day. The successful candidate will be subject to a police vetting check. Serving police officers or police staff are not eligible for this role and members must be politically neutral.

Interviews are scheduled for Monday 3 June.

The successful applicant will receive training and expenses for travelling to TVP Headquarters. The total involvement is around 10-12 days per year, including 4-5 formal meetings, preparation, observation of other TVP governance bodies, and visits to police sites to understand the organisation and its risks.

The Alternatives to Violence Project is a network of skilled volunteers who run workshops for anyone who wants to find ways of resolving conflict without resorting to violence. We work in the community and in prisons.

What difference will you make?

The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) serves people who want to handle conflict well without using or suffering violence, whether physical or psychological. Our trained volunteer facilitators deliver intensive, low-cost, conflict-resolution skills workshops in the community, in prisons and in other settings. We reach diverse communities, attracting people from across a wide spectrum of ages, ethnic backgrounds, and socio-economic backgrounds.

What will you be doing?

The overall role of the chair is to lead the Board as it sets strategic direction and oversees the good governance of the charity. You will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation is following correct governance and meeting its charitable obligations.

This is an active role, where time will need to be invested regularly outside of meetings to support this small charity.

In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, duties of the Chair include the following:

• Providing leadership to the organisation and the board by ensuring that everyone remains focused on the delivery of the organisation’s charitable purposes to provide greater public benefit

• Chairing and facilitating board meetings

• Giving direction to board policy-making

• Checking that decisions taken at meetings are implemented

• Representing the organisation at functions and meetings, and acting as a spokesperson as appropriate

• Bringing impartiality and objectivity to decision-making

• Planning the annual cycle of board meetings and other general meetings where required, for example annual general meeting

• Organise & run board and other general meetings

• Developing the board of trustees including induction, training, appraisal and succession planning

• Addressing conflict within the board and within the organisation, and liaising with the chief executive to achieve this

• Working closely with paid stuff to ensure charity stays on track vs it's objectives

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an individual who will be committed to AVPB cause and has the following skills:

• Impartiality, fairness and ability to resolve differences

It would be a significant advantage if you have experience of chairing a trustee board or comparable body. (e.g Chair of School Governors, Parish or Town Council Chair etc). Also advantageous would be a background in health or social care.

ROLE SUMMARY 

The Chief of Staff is a brand new position at Youth Mix and plays a crucial and key role in ensuring the smooth running of operational activities by being the liaison between the volunteers and the CEO on all operational matters.

The CEO is currently heavily involved with the operational staff and projects. The team is growing, and the work is expanding. Therefore, we are looking for a self-motivated volunteer who is an excellent communicator, is great with people, a good problem solver to support the CEO and be a crucial link and coordinator between the CEO and the rest of the operational team. 

This is a senior role and reports directly to the CEO. In this new exciting role, you will: 

• Act as a liaison between the staff and the CEO regarding the company’s project updates, processes as well as volunteers’ well-being; 

• Meet with the charity's senior team for business updates, supporting with challenges and escalating to CEO as appropriate; 

• Attendance at bi-monthly trustee meetings if required

• Assist, communicate and support volunteers and Young Leaders throughout the decision-making, program management and initiative implementation stages;

• Continuously improve the company’s ongoing processes and develop procedures to ensure compliance, optimal efficiency and productivity;

• Design, review and improve the organisation’s structure (as appropriate) and address or escalate to the CEO ongoing problems 

• Cover reasonable requests from the CEO 

• Build good relationships with volunteers and Young Leaders

• Work with the CEO on succession planning; and 

• Assist with reporting e.g. gathering multiple projects and progress reports and compiling them into one organisational reporting pack.

About the National Emergencies Trust

Founded in 2019, the National Emergencies Trust is an independent charity that supports those affected by UK disasters. When a national emergency arises, we act fast to raise funds for those impacted to help with their physical, psychological, and practical needs. Our first appeal, the Coronavirus Appeal raised £100 million for those affected by the pandemic.

Outside of emergencies, we work closely with those affected by past disasters to understand the historic challenges they have faced and take action to improve outcomes for future survivors and their loved ones. Becoming a trustee

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure the National Emergencies Trust has a clear strategy, achieves our goals, and demonstrates excellence in all areas of governance.

Key duties

• Demonstrate an interest and commitment to the work, values, and vision of the National Emergencies Trust
• Understand and enforce legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship (training and mentorship is available)
• Devote the necessary time to the role

Key tasks

• Act at all times in the interests of beneficiaries, considering guidance from our Advisory Groups
• Participate in quarterly board meetings, reading papers in advance
• Work jointly with other trustees, attend the Trust’s Committees and/or Advisory Groups as applicable (usually online) and/or directly support the Chair, Chief Executive or team, in line with your background and skills to achieve their objectives
• Provide advice to the Chief Executive and other board members according to your expertise and in line with the Trust’s Constitution
• Sign off the Trust’s annual financial accounts, safeguarding the good name and values of the charity, and acting within the law
• Support the Chief Executive and team in the event of a national emergency.
