Safeguarding volunteer roles

1. Assistant facilitation at Young Garrick Youth Theatre sessions in Lichfield OR Burntwood, including helping to set up and clear away spaces, following risk assessments to ensure a safe and welcoming environment

2. Assist with as ‘meet and greet’ for participants, parents/carers, and visitors

3. Support the Youth Theatre Leaders and team with the delivery, administration, communication and positive culture of sessions

4. Assist with gathering and setting out of materials/resources (costumes, props, workshop materials)

5. Providing up to date knowledge of the community programme and acting as a point of call for questions during sessions

6. Support facilitators in providing a safe and welcoming environment and responding to safeguarding concerns in sessions

7. Provide additional help for participants who require extra support.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Attending volunteer training sessions as required

2. Adhering to all Lichfield Garrick Theatre policies & procedures.

3. Contributing to effective Health & Safety management across the organisation.

The role is ideal for a person looking to gain experience and starting a career in the arts specifically with young people and communities. This could be as a facilitator, practitioner, or administrator/project leader.

We are looking for a reliable, confident volunteer with strong communication, literacy and digital skills to help older people access the support they are entitled to.

About the Service

Our Information & Advice service provides free, confidential and independent support to people aged 50 and over. We are looking for a reliable and confident volunteer to help clients complete important paper and online forms.

About the Role

As a volunteer, you will help older people complete welfare benefit applications, online application forms, and other documents in person, by telephone or during a home visit. Your clear and accurate support can help clients overcome complex forms, health barriers or limited digital skills.

Task may include:

• Help clients complete paper and online forms accurately.
• Explain practical next steps within the boundaries of your training and role.
• Support appointments at our offices and outreach venues, by telephone, and in clients’ homes.
• Data entry to ensure clear and accurate records of client contact
• Work closely with staff and other volunteers

Who would this role be suitable for?

· This role would suit someone who is patient, caring and non-judgemental, with strong communication, literacy and digital skills.

· You will need to be confident using IT systems and online forms, able to explain information clearly and comfortable handling personal information confidentially.

· Experience in administration, advice, teaching, health or social care may be helpful, but it is not essential.

· Full role-specific training will be provided before you begin supporting clients independently.

Training

You will receive core volunteer training, GDPR and data protection training, form-filling training and guidance on lone working. You will initially work alongside experienced staff in office and outreach settings.

There may also be an opportunity to work towards a Level 2 qualification in Information, Advice or Guidance and to access optional adviser training over approximately 12 months. Although this does not guarantee employment, it can provide valuable knowledge, skills and experience.

Due to the training involved and the nature of the work, we are ideally looking for volunteers who can offer regular, longer-term support.

Working Safely

The service completes a risk assessment before every client home visit. Volunteers must use the lone-working app and follow all agreed safeguarding, confidentiality and safety procedures.

DBS

A DBS check is required for this role. Risk assessments are completed before home visits, and volunteers are supported to follow all safeguarding, confidentiality and lone-working procedures.

We support young women and girls to build confidence, self-esteem and resilience, manage their health and wellbeing, and access and engage with other support services. The support we provide is delivered through a range of activities, including 1-2-1 advocacy and a programme of group-work and workshops delivered by specially trained members of staff.

• Lived experience of domestic abuse and/or other related challenges including:

  • poor mental health or drug and alcohol use

  • financial difficulties or housing issues/homelessness or exclusion from education or experience of the care system

• In-person & online Volunteer Mentor induction training

• 2–3 hours of mentoring per week

• 1-2 hours of Volunteer Mentor meetings, supervision and training per month

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Qualified Counselling Supervisor to provide online supervision for our trainee counsellors. Our service provides free and low cost counselling to those on low income and those who are marginalised.

Responsibilities:

• Group Supervision:
  • Facilitate one (two hour) group supervision sessions for trainee counsellors per month.

  • Facilitate discussions around client work, ethical dilemmas, and professional development.

Seeking childcare for children aged 0-12 for a community arts project in Vauxhall. We are looking for volunteers to look after the children of our participants during our sessions.

The Amies Projects (part of Pan Intercultural Arts) are music and drama projects for women survivors of human trafficking, providing an uplifting and empowering space for participants to make friends, learn new skills and get creative together. We hold several sessions each week and provide childcare for all the participants who need it, with 2 childcare volunteers during each session. The sessions for the participants are in an adjacent room to the childcare space, meaning parents are nearby.

Description of role

To provide childcare for young people aged 0-12. During the session there is no set curriculum to follow. We encourage children to be creative, offering arts supplies eg play doh and crayons, as well as toys for creative play. Children will have food during the session, which will be provided either by the charity or by the parents depending on the age and preferences. Children will need to be supported to use the toilet, nappies changed etc. We ask that volunteers alert staff of any safeguarding issues arising.

About the Service

The Wellbeing Team at Age UK Sandwell supports people aged 50+ to improve their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing through social, physical and community activities. The service helps reduce loneliness and isolation by encouraging community connections, offering one-to-one support, befriending and signposting, and working with volunteers and local partners to help older people stay active, independent and connected.

About the Role

The volunteer for this social group will be responsible for facilitating weekly activity groups for older people. Specific tasks may include:

• To keep a record of attendance
• To facilitate the session on a weekly basis
• To prepare any resources and equipment required to deliver the group
• To report any concerns to your line manager
• To attend team meetings/supervision when required
• To help promote the group and encourage attendance from older people in the community

You will be supported by a staff member in the initial weeks to prepare you to run the group.

· You will also complete the Age UK Sandwell induction programme and any additional training relevant to your role.
