Overview of the role:

Great Yarmouth Pathway is a transforming place of light, love & engagement for the community of Great Yarmouth supporting those in need. We are seeking to recruit Trustees with an interest in helping others, who are willing to uphold our values, and who can bring life experience to the board of trustees. Trustees have collective responsibility for the governance of the organisation and for all decisions made by the Board. They set the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment to our values, are responsible for setting organisational policy, and ensure that strong relationships are maintained between the Trustees, Managers & Volunteers.

Key tasks:                                

• Manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity.
• Ensure the board regularly reviews its structures, roles, relationship to staff and implementing changes if and when necessary.
• Develop a long-term strategy for the food bank with clear objectives which can be monitored and adapted.
• Work alongside the Treasurer and the board to ensure the charity’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined (on income over £25k) and made publicly available when necessary.
• Ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
• Ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
• Help promote the charity to a wide audience of potential funders and beneficiaries and community stakeholders.
• Ensure the charity and foodbank has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
• Act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to your role.
• Prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.
• Provide ad hoc support to the staff team and volunteers from time to time.
• Act at all times in accordance with the foodbank’s trustee code of conduct.
• Ensure the principles of equity, equality, diversity and inclusion are embedded in Yarmouth and Magdalen Foodbank and help deliver public benefit.

Trustees may also undertake additional work for the charity between meetings subject to their availability and skill set. 

We are looking for one/two trustees to join our diverse Board of Governors (the “ Board”) here at International Students House (ISH).

What will you be doing?

ISH is looking for three trustees to join the Board of Governors (the “ Board”).  We are looking for individuals who have experience in the private, public, or charitable sector and who can bring their entrepreneurial, management, and governance skills to assist the charity in delivering its mission.  This is an exciting time to join the Board of a dynamic and friendly organisation.

What difference will you make?

The statutory duties of a trustee are to:

• Work with fellow Board members and SMT in setting the Charity’s strategic aims, ensuring that the necessary financial and other resources are in place for ISH to meet its objectives and review performance management.
• Provide leadership to the Charity within a framework of prudent and effective controls, which enable risks to be assessed and managed.
• Comply with its governing document, charity law, company law and all other relevant law, legislation and/or regulations;

• Pursue its objectives as defined in its governing document;
• Use its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives, and in doing so fulfils its purpose for the benefit of the public;
• Maintain proper systems, procedures and controls and that they are kept under regular review.
• Safeguard the good name and values of the ISH; and
• Appoint the CEO and monitor their performance

Opportunity to Make a Difference: Become a Trustee at St. Luke's Hospice

St. Luke's Hospice is here for our local community when and where they need us. As a Hospice we provide compassionate care and work to ensure equity of access to those in the communities we support, whose illnesses are no longer curable.

Our care ensures dignity and empowers people to make the choices they want from the moment they are diagnosed. We provide support from our two Hospices (Basildon and Thurrock) as well as out in the community at a person’s place of residence, when needed. Our team is made up of various health and social care professionals, many of whom work with us on a voluntary basis.

Our organisation is going through an important and exciting period of transformational change, and we are looking to recruit new Trustees to be part of this on a voluntary basis and to help diversify skills and lived experiences that our Board has.

Our Board are collectively responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity working with the Chief Executive and Executive Team.

Role Details

• Salary: The role is unremunerated, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
• Contract: Trustees are appointed to the Board which is renewable annually at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
• Time Commitment: There will usually be up to eleven meetings a year at 4-6 week intervals. Meetings are currently scheduled for Wednesdays and last for 2 hours. Board members are expected to attend at least eight meetings a year and actively contribute to discussions.
• Location: St. Luke's Hospice, Basildon and possible hybrid arrangements available.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with fellow Trustees and the Executive Team, to set and review strategic goals.
• Ensuring the hospice complies with its governing document, charity law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
• Attend Trustee meetings (in-person or remotely), which are approximately every 6 weeks and also represent the organisation at external events or other meetings.
• Being an ambassador for St. Luke’s Hospice, promoting its values and work within the wider community.
• Actively contributing to Board meetings and Sub-Committees with insight, perspective, and expertise.

We are looking to recruit a Treasurer to join our board of trustees. The Treasurer, in addition to their role as trustee will oversee income, expenditure and support SCIP to manage cash flow and safeguard the charity. 

St Luke's Hospice have an opportunity for an experienced Trustee with an income generation/finance/business management background to help make a positive contribution to the work we do for patients and families within our local communities. 

What will you be doing?

If you have experience in the private, public or voluntary sectors and the drive to make a difference, we have an opportunity for you to join our Trustee Board to make a positive contribution to the work we do. St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice cares for people in mid & south Cheshire who are suffering from life limiting illnesses. We offer specialist treatment, care, advice and support to patients and their families.

We undertake an annual audit of the skill mix of our Trustees to find the right blend of experience and expertise to support the work of the Hospice through their support for the Senior Management Team. We look for Trustees who have the dedication, commitment and desire to improve our services and help us to achieve our strategic goals in line with our ethos and values.

We would be happy to receive applications from someone, whose responsibility as a Trustee will be to overview all Income Generation at St Luke’s.  This role will include being a Director of the Promotion and Trading companies which look after the hospice lottery and our retail shops. Someone with experience of managing income generation, working collaboratively and with business management and finance (including P&L) knowledge would be desirable for this position.

Each year the Hospice undertakes a skills mix audit to identify the key skills required to support the SMT in the day to day running of the Hospice.

The most recent audit has identified the following skills as essential to support the SMT and create a balanced trustee board able to make knowledgeable and effective decisions:

• Experience in managing income generation.

• Experience in working collaboratively.

• Experience of Business Management.

• Experience of Finance including P&L.

What difference will you make?

This is a vital role within the Hospice and will contribute to ensuring patients and families within the community receive safe, well-led compassionate care. It will also be a key role in ensuring good financial governance alongside supporting our strategic goals, particularly in relation to the generation of income for the Hospice.

ACT has been operating for over 50 years across Suffolk and the surrounding areas. Originally providing supported housing for offenders upon their release from prison, our services have expanded to help an increasing number of vulnerable people within our community.

Initially, we provided supported housing and helped people back into education and employment. Over time, we have expanded our services to help vulnerable people in the community in many different ways. We now have over 120 staff and more than 275 volunteers who are an essential part of our workforce as many of our services could not run without our volunteers. We operate across Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex and are governed by an amazing board of Trustees who also voluntarily give their time.

Essentially, our services fall into four main categories:

• Helping people to keep a roof over their heads 
• Helping people to stay safe 
• Helping people to be heard 
• Helping people with their health and wellbeing

Treasurer/Finance Trustee

We are looking for a new Board member to act as Treasurer/Finance Trustee to maintain effective governance of the organisation’s financial affairs ensuring its financial viability and to help develop and oversee our current strategic plan as we navigate a challenging external environment. We provide funding for young people aged 25 or under to help them obtain equipment, uniforms or experiences that support them in starting or continuing their education or training.  Some examples include grants towards the cost of school trips and residentials, text books, stationery, apprenticeship equipment such as tools, and musical instruments.

We are currently recruiting for trustees to join our board.  The right candidate will understand the challenges faced by young people in Manchester and Salford; this may be through their own lived experiences or through professional experience, for example in education or health and social care.  The successful candidate will be passionate about improving outcomes for young people.  Previous experience of being a trustee is not essential to this role.

As a trustee you would be expected to attend a minimum of 4 board meetings (2 hours each) per year, as well as commit approximately 1 to 2 hours per month to reviewing applications for funding (this can be done remotely, online).

Become a volunteer Trustee and drive environmental impact in Scotland.

Future Woodlands Scotland is a charity, set up in 2012, to fund innovative thinking for native woodlands. Working with land owners and managers across Scotland, we help to restore ‘ghost’ or degraded former native woodlands and seek to work with partners in ensuring the right skills are in place to deliver native woodland creation. The charity also helps create better, healthier and greener cities and towns, with the development of our £10 million urban forestry programme.

We currently have eight Trustees, who come from a range of backgrounds, all passionate about making a positive difference for our natural environment and urban greenspace. We are now seeking additional Trustees to help steer the organisation through our next exciting period of growth. Third sector experience is desirable though not essential as is being based in Scotland.

Our Trustees are volunteers and are not remunerated, however reasonable expenses to attend in-person meetings will be paid.

Who we are

Imagine, for a moment, going to your local library and finding that just seven out of a hundred books are in the format you can read.

Imagine you are a child excited about an author’s new book about a schoolboy wizard, and it’s all the kids at school can talk about, but following an overnight queue, you find it isn’t published for people like you.

Imagine being one of Britain’s more than 10 million children and adults who cannot read printed books. This is a “print disability”, and we – Calibre Audio, exist to support and help by providing a much-loved audiobook service for the visually impaired, those with dyslexia and other print-disabled people.

Our services started with cassettes of just ten books for 12 members, and 50 years on, we now have in excess of 16,500 titles for our 12,000 members.

For five decades, we have been on a mission to unlock the world of stories and learning for those who find reading printed books challenging.

During the last few years, we have invested heavily in improving services and making our organisation more efficient. These investments include new streaming services via the web, through partner apps, developing an Alexa Skill, additional content such as podcasts and book reviews, and developing our staff and board to improve our diversity.

We are in an exciting period of growth and development as a charity, and our new Trustee will join us at a fantastic time.

Throughout 2024, we’re running an exciting programme of activities to reflect on our past achievements as we celebrate our 50th anniversary — and we will launch our new strategy for the future to ensure we reach even more people who can benefit from our service.

We want to engage with younger members of our community and make as many books as possible available on as many platforms as possible, including other partner apps and smart speakers.

This is your opportunity to support us with long-term strategic thinking and planning and bring expertise in finance to the board.

Who we are looking for

We seek a strategic and visionary financially qualified leader who can support and challenge us. In the summer of 2025, our new Trustee will take over chairing our Finance Committee when our current Treasurer ends his term.

We are excited to invite first-time Trustees to the board; you do not need trustee or non-executive experience. We are keen to ensure our board reflects the people we work with and our society.

We need skilled, motivated, and brilliant people who can help us achieve our vision of an inclusive society where everyone with a reading disability can enjoy accessible books.

Time commitment

You will attend four board meetings a year in Buckinghamshire with an option to attend virtually.

Initially, you will be a member of our Finance Committee, and when our current Treasurer ends their term in 2025, you will take over chairing our Finance Committee, which meets online for up to an hour every month.

We have an annual strategy away day once a year, and Trustees are invited to attend events throughout the year.

The overall time commitment, including reading board papers, preparation for board meetings and ad hoc advice and support to the executive team, is half a day a month (c.6 days per year), spread across the above commitments.
