Fundraising volunteer roles

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit a Support Volunteer for the Bradford and District Group. As our local group Support Volunteer you’ll help people affected by MS find information about local and national services. That could be helping someone access local information about the care or benefits they need or giving them a hand with a grant application. See a video about one of our Support Volunteers here.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your listening and communication skills, as well as your knowledge of local services. Most importantly you’ll help people affected by MS to access the help they need. 

Time commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.

You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the local area the group to carry out this role.

York Archaeological Trust for Research and Excavation, an educational and research charity, is currently looking for new trustees to join its board during an exciting period of development. 

Having celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2022, we are committed to building on the vision that began with the Coppergate excavation in York and the opening of the internationally renowned  Jorvik Viking Centre, and to harnessing archaeology for educational and public benefit. Engaging with more than 1.2 million people annually, and with centres of archaeology and conservation in York and Nottingham we work throughout the UK and internationally providing leading-edge field investigation, analysis and connecting communities with their past. 

We are seeking to recruit candidates from a range of different backgrounds and with different perspectives, both to ensure the best possible decision-making, and to reflect the range of communities in which we work. We are keen to hear from those who can offer expertise and experience in any of the following areas:

• Strategic financial management. With succession planning in mind for the role of Chair of our Finance and Audit Committee, we are seeking a candidate with considerable professional financial expertise, underpinned with a formal first-tier accounting qualification and proven commercial acumen. Business experience of the charity sector from either an employed or voluntary capacity would be an advantage
• Business process improvement, IT and cyber security. This trustee position is open to non-finance specialists as well as those who have a financial background
• Strategic leadership of a visitor attraction in the heritage sector
• Educational strategy, including the role of virtual and online learning
• Archaeology in a commercial context
• Charitable fundraising. 

However, no-one is excluded from applying. Above all, we are looking for people who share our aim of making the past accessible for everyone, and who want to help lead the Trust accordingly. We are open to applications from those who don’t have previous board experience. Experience of the charity sector is desirable but not essential. 

Trustees are appointed for a three-year term, renewable to a maximum of nine years. The role includes a commitment to attend four board meetings per year and the Annual General Meeting.  Trustees are also expected to contribute some additional time to sub committees and/or Steering Groups in line with their interests and expertise. Trustees are not remunerated, but we can cover reasonable travel and accommodation expenses.

Who are we looking for?

At present we are working to secure funding that will see us through our first year, and the role will be an important part of the organisation's growth and ability to obtain funding for the operational activities and start up for the organisation. We are currently working with a third-party funding strategy specialist and the Funding Co-ordinator will oversee this launch as well as look into other funding options that may be available pre-start up and in the following months.

The person who is starting the charity up is autistic, has ADHD, CPTSD and also multiple physical conditions that effect daily life and is part of the LGBTQ+ community and has faced a lot of issues in life because of these things.

Living Reasons is being created to fix what we think is a challenging situation that is getting harder to achieve every week, month and year in the current economic, political, environmental and societal landscape. Dive into lasting impact: Fundraise for East London Waterworks Park to create and shape natural swimming ponds, ecological habitats and community gardens

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. 

If you are a good writer and seller of ideas, would you like to join our mini-team of funding bid writers? We would especially love to hear from you if you have experience of writing funding applications, and we are happy to share the skills we have developed with you if you would like to learn.

The Fundraising Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Thursday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely. We understand that people may not have a lot of time to give, so we want to find volunteers who could give us one-off or ongoing strategic advice and support.

If you have experience in writing grants and funding applications, corporate fundraising, philanthropy, or any other aspect of fundraising, it would be great to hear from you. 

We are keen fundraisers but we are lacking professional expertise and experience and we would love your help and input. We would welcome one-off advice on the phone or in person, as well as longer term volunteers. 

We would also love to hear from potential volunteers without experience but with transferable skills.

East London Waterworks Park is an exciting and ambitious project that offers many rewarding opportunities for our volunteers. You will have a significant impact on the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds and forest schools. 

By leading fundraising projects that explore how diverse professionals (architects, ecologists, web developers, community researchers etc.) collaborate to shape community infrastructure, volunteers will directly contribute to the development of a park that truly reflects the needs and desires of the local community. 

Without funding we won’t be able to make it happen. Your input will help us craft experiences that inspire, educate, and engage our service users, stakeholders, funders, and the general public, ultimately driving support for the park's mission and ensuring its long-term sustainability. So you will be directly contributing to the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds.

About Us

London was burning in 1981. The Brixton Riots exposed the deep cracks in our communities, and from that moment of unrest, a spark of hope emerged. A young cricketer invited local kids to join him on the pitch instead of moving them aside. That simple act became the London Community Cricket Association — now The Change Foundation — a charity that uses sport to transform lives, create safe spaces, and empower young people to grow free from fear. Today, we continue that legacy through innovative, values-led programmes that challenge broken systems and build lasting impact.

The Role

We seek Trustees who are passionate, courageous, and empathetic, and who can bring insight, challenge, and guidance to help shape the next chapter of our work.  We are particularly keen to hear from people with expertise in:

• Governance & compliance
• Human resources & organisational development
• Lived experience similar to the young people we support

We are committed to diversifying our Board and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. Training and support are available to anyone new to trustee roles.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Trustee, you will help ensure that The Change Foundation:

• Pursues its mission and long-term objectives.
• Defines goals and evaluates our performance.
• Protects and champions the charity’s values and reputation.
• Oversees administration, policies, and financial stability.
• Ensures compliance with charity law, company law, and other relevant regulations.

All Trustees also contribute to one of our subcommittees:

· Risk, Audit & Governance – safeguarding, compliance, financial oversight, and operational standards.

· Programmes & Impact – reviewing programme design, delivery, and evaluation of social impact.

· Fundraising, Marketing, & Communications – overseeing fundraising strategy, marketing, and communications.

Subcommittees meet four times a year, in advance of quarterly Board meetings.
