St Leonards Youth & Community Centre are looking for someone with accounting experience to join the Board as a Trustee to advise on financial matters, ensure we meet our financial obligations, and help us build a sound financial strategy.
What will you be doing?
As a trustee you will share collective responsibility for the governance of the charity and all decisions made by the board, ensuring the organisation is well run, fulfils its mission, is compliant with charity law and that the charity is open and accountable. The Treasurer leads the financial affairs of the charity and ensures that they are conducted within required legal and accounting best practice. It is also the responsibility of the Treasurer to work in partnership with the Chairperson and other trustees to ensure the financial viability and development of the organisation.
Key tasks:
- ensure the board fulfils its financial responsibilities
- ensure that the Charity has proper systems for budgeting, financial control, insurance and reporting
- inform the trustee board members of the finances of the Charity by written report, at least on a quarterly basis ensuring that the board have a clear picture of the financial health of the food bank
- ensure that financial reports: are comprehensible and properly discussed at trustee board meetings; are provided in the proper format and at the proper time, as required by the relevant charity regulator body (Charity Commission of England & Wales); have properly appointed auditors or independent examiners, as our income is over £25K
Other responsibilities, along with the board of trustees, include:
- to approve, support and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals and objectives
- to manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity
- to ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity, responding to changes in the local community as appropriate
- to ensure that key risks are identified, monitored and controlled appropriately
- To ensure appropriate financial plans are in place, budgets are monitored and progress is evaluated
- to provide financial statements
- to help promote the organisation to key stakeholders and beneficiaries
- to ensure the charity has appropriate procedures to comply with current legislation and good practice, including employment, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding and GDPR compliance/data protection
- to prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.

- confidence to actively participate in discussions concerning the needs of the charity, always acting in its best interests
- experience of working effectively with others
- sound, independent judgement and the ability to think creatively

About the role
You will be delivering our telephone helpline model to people impacted by hoarding behaviour who may be facing a variety of situations including legal, financial, psychological and discriminatory abuse & neglect. You will have your own case load of weekly telephone calls and work towards SMART goals to assist the participant in managing and improving their space and hoarding situation
The role consists of:-
· Building rapport with your assigned participants and offering them one-to-one support over the telephone
· Delivering our support model of 27 phone calls
· Assessments of incoming cases (further training will be provided)
· Complying with HUK's case-management procedures, training program and other relevant policies and procedures.
We are looking for:-
· Individuals or professionals with interest and/or experience in mental health
· Psychology graduates or students looking for experience or a student work placement

About the role: Advocacy Placement Volunteering You will be providing remote (office based/virtual) advocacy support for people impacted by hoarding behaviour (PwHB) who may be facing a variety of situations including legal, financial, psychological and discriminatory abuse/neglect. You will be working with trained colleagues to alleviate housing, benefits, mental health and other problems experienced by HUK's participants. HoardingUK (HUK) works to bring services together to improve person-centred, cost effective and time managed support.
The role: • Volunteer at HUK a minimum of one half-day (4 hours) each week. • Provide timely support to those using the service . • Maintain a caseload of up to three clients at each advice session. • Comply with HUK's case-management procedures, training programme and other relevant policies and procedures. • Work collaboratively to create an action plan with participants and professionals. • Assist in facilitating phone, correspondence, emails to statutory services and others. • Signpost to relevant external services based on participant need. • Keep accurate records. • Promote choice and control.

A. Description of the Society
The Society is the third oldest local conservation charity in England, founded in 1897 by many of the public figures who campaigned to procure the passing of the 1871 Hampstead Heath Act, which saved Hampstead Heath as a public open space in perpetuity, and who went on to found the National Trust.
The Society is an unincorporated association, constituted by its contractual constitution, and is a registered charity. Its charitable objects are as follows:
3. (a) to preserve those parts of Hampstead Heath which are subject to section 16 of The Hampstead Heath Act 1871* in their wild and natural state, and also to preserve the natural and characteristic features of the later additions to the Heath, so far as is consistent with their enjoyment by the public;
(b) to promote and maintain the amenities and characteristics of the environs of the Heath, and of the buildings and streets of Hampstead; and
(c) to promote public interest in the study of natural history, conservation, and the history of the areas referred to in paragraphs (a) and (b) of this Rule 3.
*[Section 16 provides: The [Metropolitan] Board [of Works] shall at all times preserve, as far as may be, the natural aspect and state of the Heath, and to that end shall protect the turf, gorse, heather, timber and other trees, shrubs, and brush-wood thereon.]
The Society’s geographical remit is limited to Hampstead Heath, the fringes of the Heath, and the old borough of Hampstead (now legally subsumed into the London Borough of Camden).
It is governed by a ‘general committee’ of some 15 trustees which is supported by (i) three subcommittees (each of approximately a dozen members) responsible for the distinct areas of Hampstead Town, Hampstead Heath, and local planning applications, and (ii) a Plaque Selection Panel which is responsible for the erection of plaques on buildings in Hampstead Town commemorating famous residents.
The Chair, along with principal Society officers, is elected annually at the annual general meeting.
The Society has approximately 2,000 members and is in sound financial and reputational shape. Further details of the Society may be found on the Society's website.
B. General role of the Chair
The general role of the Society Chair includes the duties outlined in the English Charity Commission document entitled “The essential trustee: what you need to know, what you need to do”, namely:
· help plan and run general committee meetings and in members’ meetings
· take the lead on ensuring that meetings are properly run and recorded
· take the lead on ensuring that trustees comply with their duties and the charity is well governed
· act as a spokesperson for the charity
· act as a link between trustees and committee members.
Reference should also be made to “A Chair’s Compass - A guide for chairs of charities and non-profit organisations”.
Given the local remit of the Society, it is desirable that the prospective Society Chair should be resident in Hampstead (including West Hampstead), Belsized, Highgate or Hampstead Garden Suburb. The prospective Society Chair will be invited to join the general committee and ‘shadow’ the current Chair for the appropriate period before taking over.
C. Core and specific tasks of the Society Chair
Convene, set the agenda for, and chair bi-monthly meetings of the general committee, and approve the draft minutes of those meetings
Convene and set the agenda for the Society’s annual general meeting in June of each year, deliver a verbal annual report at that meeting, and approve the draft minutes of that meeting
Write the annual trustees’ report for inclusion in the annual return to the Charity Commission
Settle and approve the Society's annual financial statements as prepared by the Treasurer and the Society's auditors/examiners
Write a column of approximately 2,000 words for the Society's newsletter published in January, May and October
From time to time, as an observer, attend meetings of the Society's three subcommittees (Town, Heath and Planning) and the Society’s Plaque Selection Panel
Support the Society’s vice-chairs in their chairing of the Society’s three subcommittees (see above)
Oversee recruitment to the general committee and, as required, the Society's three subcommittees
As required, be the public or official face of the Society in dealings with the media, and the City of London Corporation (the freehold owner of Hampstead Heath and the sole trustee of the Hampstead Heath registered charity), Camden Council (including Hampstead Ward local councillors) and other local or governmental bodies
As required, lead (even if only in a titular or nominal sense) campaigns run by the Society
Attend and, as required, host Society events, including the New Members Party, the Xmas Party and Society lectures (usually two to three a year)
Maintain relations with other non-governmental bodies with which the Society has regular dealings in matters of common interest, including the Vale of Health Society, the Highgate Society, the Hampstead Garden Suburb Residents Association, the Hampstead Neighbourhood Forum, Heath Hands, the Kenwood Estate, Keats House, Camden History Society, the London Forum and Civic Voice
Identify, and suggest to its editor, items for inclusion in the Society's newsletter

Role Summary.
Site managers are responsible for establishing partnerships with University Muslim Student Associations (MSAs) and Islamic Societies (ISocs), and maintaining positive relationships with these sites.
Key tasks

Actively establish and maintain positive relationships with the MSA/ISoc committees and Student Ambassadors to ensure an exceptional onsite experience for students and promote retention of sites

Be responsible for overseeing all onsite logistics through liaison with the Student Ambassador to ensure that onsite logistics including advertising of the class and other required tasks are taken care of by the MSA/ISoc

Be the point of contact for ISocs: answer questions from the MSA/ ISoc committees and Student Ambassadors to the best of your ability and engage them on a 1-1 basis, listen to their needs and concerns and addressing these accordingly

Collect ideas and best-practices from how different MSAs/ISocs are delivering their class
-
Participate in onboarding current and new sites prior to the start of the academic year

Be the point of contact internally for any queries or updates related to assigned MSAs/ISocs

Regularly brainstorm with MSA/ISoc committees to identify ways Roots can better serve their specific needs, support their goals, and strengthen collaboration.

The Womankind helpline offers emotional support to women struggling with their mental health and past experiences. Helpline volunteers offer empathy and nonjudgmental listening to the women who contact us over the phone and webchat.
Womankind is an established charity helping hundreds of women every year to improve their mental health and wellbeing. Our wonderful volunteers are the backbone of our organisation. We need you!

Training
Our training comes with over 30 years’ experience of working with women’s mental health and will fully equip you to work on our helpline.
Over 6 sessions, our training covers a range of topics from women’s mental health to sexual violence and domestic abuse.

The Role
Once you have successfully completed the training, you will be offered a place on our helpline. Each volunteer works the same shift every week, with the same volunteers – so you can make friends and support each other on shift!
You can come into our offices to do your shift or work remotely if you have a confidential and quiet space at home.
Your role will be to offer empathic, non-judgemental listening support to the women who contact us on the phone or through our webchat, with calls or chats lasting up to 50 minutes. You will also take more administrative calls, where you will talk about our counselling services and calls where you need to signpost to other services. Our training will fully equip you for this as well.
A three-hour shift includes:
30 minutes to check in with your supervisor at the beginning
2 hours taking calls or chats on the helpline
30-45 minutes to debrief with the other volunteers and your supervisor at the end of your shift
You will also be expected to attend group supervision with all the other volunteers, which runs in the evening on alternating Mondays and Wednesdays each month.
There will always be a supervisor available during your shifts to support you, and we often run extra training to support the work you do on the helpline.
You
We are looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic and interested in supporting other women to improve their mental health and wellbeing. You will be honest, friendly and reliable with good communication skills, as well as a non-judgmental and patient listener.
The helpline role can be challenging and emotionally demanding at times. Therefore, we need women who have adequate life experience and feel emotionally resilient enough to take on the role. We welcome volunteers with personal experience of mental health and other relevant issues, but we require you to have had a one-year period of stability at least before starting the training.
While most of our helpline opening hours are during the daytime, we have two evenings shifts on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Womankind is recruiting reliable and resilient women to join our Volunteer Befriending Service, able to commit to 2-3 daytime hours each week for one year. Befrienders encourage and support vulnerable women to become more independent, empowering them to make their own decisions, find new hobbies and get involved in their local community.
Training:
Befrienders receive 3 in person taught sessions of comprehensive training over one weekend in-person, with an additional 3 online sessions, plus additional home study
between sessions. Our training comes with over 30 years of experience working in women’s mental health, giving volunteers the very best preparation for the role, and a support network of like-minded women.
The Role:
Upon the completion of training, each volunteer is matched with one woman who has experienced childhood abuse, trauma, sexual violence and/or domestic abuse, and will be experiencing mental ill health and social isolation.
As a befriender you would be expected to commit to 2-3 hours on a weekly basis for one year and attend monthly group and individual supervision.
You and your befriendee would start by getting to know each other and gradually, getting out and about. As the relationship develops, you would support and empower her to make changes and develop her confidence in doing everyday things such as getting the bus, joining a class or finding a new hobby.
You would also support her emotionally, using active listening skills and providing her with the space to discuss the issues she is struggling with and be expected to demonstrate a healthy and boundaried relationship.
You:
You will be enthusiastic and interested in helping another woman improve her mental health and wellbeing, be honest and friendly with good communication skills, confident in social situations, non-judgmental, reliable, patient and a good listener.
The befriending role can be challenging and emotionally overwhelming at times, therefore we need befrienders who have adequate life experience and feel emotionally robust and resilient enough to take on the role. We welcome volunteers with personal experience of mental health and other relevant issues but will require you to have at least a one year period of stability and ideally to have received professional help like counselling in your recovery.
Please note, there is very limited availability for women who can only volunteer during the evenings and weekends.
Because of the nature of the role it is only open to women applicants and is exempt under Schedule 9 Part 1 Equalities Act 2010.

Why did you want to become a Lead Volunteer?
I chose to volunteer at Mind, specifically because of the cause – I support the charity in what they want to achieve. Mind also supported me through the lockdown period during the pandemic, which I found very isolating.
I’ve volunteered for Mind for 20 years - I started volunteering for Mind in 2005. At the time, I had a full-time job, but I wanted to try volunteering. I’ve volunteered in a number of Mind shops, including Wallsend, Whitley Bay, Gateshead (which was where I became a Lead Volunteer) and finally, North Shields.
I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer to gain more experience, which I can then pass onto others. I now undertake key holder duties in my current shop. It was a little scary to begin with, but there was plenty of support from the wider region and I feel really proud to now be doing the role.
What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?
I’ve developed my technology skills – I’ve learnt how to use the till, how to use the computer including emails and Microsoft Teams, how to complete eLearning and the new Gift Aid hub. I struggled a bit before with technology, so it’s really helped me to be exposed to it more. I’ve also developed cash handling skills and how to deal with external contractors. My confidence has really grown and I’m also now able to cover local stores too!
What do you enjoy most about being a Lead Volunteer?
I really enjoy giving amazing customer service and working with the team of staff and volunteers – we have lots of fun whilst we work! The shop has a great atmosphere. My Shop Manager has said she couldn’t do without me! I would really recommend for anyone to come and volunteer with Mind – it’s a great way to meet new people.

I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer because I wanted to take on more responsibilities and keep myself as productive as possible. By taking on more responsibilities, I’m able to support the wider team with certain activities within the shop. It’s also helped me become less focused on my myself and my own problems. I suffer from low self-esteem and felt that by becoming a Lead Volunteer, it would help strengthen my self-worth.
What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?
As I have never worked in retail, becoming a Lead Volunteer has given me more insight into how the retail industry and how Mind Retail operates day-to-day. I have become more patient and not as isolated as before. My communication skills have improved too.

Certain customers are confiding in me about their mental health. I find it great to be able to assist and provide some support. We all just need an ear to listen…
It’s also great to be able to make decisions too. The team I work with at the shop are very supportive and understanding – they look after me and I feel like a belong to a small family. The team really understand that our shops are not just shops! They’re a place where everyone, including those with mental health problems, can feel safe and listened to.

Role Summary
The Centre for Perioperative Care (CPOC) is seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual to serve as Patient Lead. This voluntary leadership role is central to ensuring that the patient voice is embedded in all aspects of CPOC’s work. The Patient Lead will represent patients on the CPOC Board, chair the Patient & Public Engagement Network (PPEN), and guide the team of patient representatives.
Key Responsibilities
• Represent the patient voice at CPOC Board and Executive meetings.
• Chair and lead the Patient & Public Engagement Network (PPEN).
• Develop and deliver the PPEN’s programme of work, focused on improving outcomes for surgical patients before, during, and after surgery.
• Collaborate and build relationships with a diverse range of clinical and non-clinical stakeholders to influence perioperative care policy and practice.
• Champion the views and experiences of underrepresented and marginalised patient groups, ensuring their voices inform perioperative care policy and practice.
• Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making from a patient perspective.
• Participate in bi-weekly virtual leadership meetings and quarterly in-person or virtual board and executive meetings.
• Inspire, support and mentor the patient representatives.
• Contribute to CPOC communications (e.g., blogs, presentations, articles, interviews).
