About The Role
At Washington you will be involved first hand are in assisting the collection team in maintaining and developing exhibits within the site at Washington to enhance the visitor experience.
This involves helping the Collection team to care for our large collection of rare and endangered species of waterfowl from around the world as well as wetland mammals.
Conducting public talks with our otters and Flamingos is also an important part of the role. Helping the team to inspire our visitors by the work we do and also showing them how they can get involved.
Why volunteer with us? We have one of the largest waterfowl collections in the North East, with over 40 species, 15 of which are of Conservation Concern, including the current flock of 56 breeding Chilean Flamingos and a pair of Asian Short-clawed Otters. Previous volunteers have gone on to work in animal conservation work around the world.
We are currently looking for volunteers that can help us on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays or Sundays. We ask that you can commit a minimum of 6 months to get the most from your role. You must be over 18 to apply for this role.
Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need.

We’re looking for a thoughtful, detail-oriented volunteer to help us review participant feedback and create a short internal impact summary following our July 2-day nonprofit workshop for Black and Brown changemakers. This is a short and flexible remote role, perfect for someone who loves meaningful data, stories, and mission-driven work.
Tasks Include:
- Reviewing responses from participant feedback forms (Google Form or PDF)
- Thematically organizing written responses (e.g., what people learned, what could be improved)
- Pulling out quotes for testimonials
- Light data entry and analysis (how many attended, how many would recommend, etc.)
- Helping create a one-page written summary or slide deck (optional but ideal)

Term

Remuneration
The role of Chair is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed.
Time Commitment
The Chair role requires an estimated commitment of 15–18 days per year. This includes preparing for and attending four Board meetings annually, each held at their London office; participating in occasional extraordinary or quarterly sub-committee meetings; holding regular meetings with the Chief Executive; and representing the Foundation at key events or external engagements.

Do you live in Wales and want to gain valuable skills, have new experiences, and support vulnerable people?
We are offering 3 young people aged 18-25 the opportunity to volunteer with the Portuguese Red Cross in Cucujães, serving the Municipality of Oliveira de Azeméis. The programme will run from August 2025 – November 2025.

Skills and qualifications:
We are seeking Trustees with the following skills / experience to take lead oversight for these areas:
- Social Sector Experience: someone with a solid understanding of the charity and third sector, and strong experience in strategy and leadership. You’ll offer insights that help us respond to sector challenges and increase our impact
- Fundraising and Income Generation: someone with a background in fundraising and income generation to support the team with ideas, insight, and a fresh perspective on our income strategy
- Legal (Charity Law and Regulation): someone with legal expertise - especially in charity law and regulation - to guide the Board in making sound and compliant decisions
As part of our longer-term succession planning, we would welcome interest from candidates who may be open to taking on additional Board leadership responsibilities in the future, eg Chair or Committee roles.

We are actively seeking new Trustees for the Acorn Youth Community & Sports Centre in Barton.
We are a charity organisation that has been established since 1965 and was originally created for the youth of Barton. Over the years we have developed the centre into a thriving Youth, Community & Sports Centre.
The centre has been supported by local people who have given us their precious time which has made us who we are today. Now we need YOU! We are seeking fresh eyes and support to bring the centre to the next level. Can you give some of your time and share ideas to further the longevity and success of our centre.
Job Summary
The Trustee plays a pivotal role in overseeing the governance and strategic direction of the organisation. This position requires a dedicated individual who is passionate about our mission and committed to ensuring the effective management of resources. The Trustee will work collaboratively with other board members to enhance organisational performance, engage with stakeholders, and promote our objectives within the community.
Responsibilities
- Attend board meetings, usually 4 per year, and actively participate in discussions regarding organisational strategy and policy.
- Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, community leaders, and partners to enhance public relations and fundraising efforts.
- Engage in relationship management to strengthen connections with existing supporters while identifying potential new funding sources.
- Support the development of strategic plans that drive organisational growth and sustainability.
Skills
- Strong relationship management skills, demonstrating an ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent public relations capabilities, with a knack for communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Proven customer service skills, ensuring that all interactions reflect positively on the organisation.
- Experience in fundraising activities, showcasing an understanding of donor engagement strategies.
- A keen interest in market trends related to non-profit organisations and community engagement initiatives.
