Refuge Team Leader - Permanent, Workplace based
Salary: £26,520 rising to £27,030 on successful completion of probation
Location: Torfaen
Hours & working Pattern:
- 35hrs per week (full time)
- Monday to Friday the shifts are either 9-16.30, 10.30 – 18.00 or 11.30 – 19.00

Specific Responsibilities
As a senior member of the team, support the Refuge support service coordinator to plan, deliver and evaluate high quality, trauma informed, person led services across Torfaen
Lead the refuge team to enable women and children supported by the refuge services to achieve meaningful and impactful outcomes, led by them.
Line management responsibilities including supervisions, 360’s, inductions for the refuge team (staff, volunteers, and students).
Carry a smaller case load of single women and families.
Oversee rotas for refuge staff and make sure the refuges are adequately staffed at all times.
Work collaboratively with Community Coordinator to ensure refuge, community and initial contact referral paths are easily accessible are clear and concise, and to continue to promote a whole team approach.
Support women and children to have a voice and provide feedback within the organisation and the sector, including surveys, listening sessions and external opportunities
To oversee operational Health & Safety requirements within refuge services
To oversee housekeeping, maximise refuge occupancy and facilitate room turnarounds in a timely manner
Ensure accurate and timely records are maintained in relation to all aspects of the service, including inputting information into our Information Management System.
Assist with routine audits including our database recording system and developing improvement plans where appropriate
Identify training needs following audits, supervisions, observations etc, and co-ordinate training for the team.
Lead regular Refuge Team meetings and participate in Torfaen full team meetings
Support the Coordinator and Service Manager in compiling reports for Welsh Women’s Aid (WWA) Statistics and other relevant reports for projects and services
Attend core group and other similar meetings, ensuring completion of all tasks allocated to Cyfannol Women’s Aid (CWA).
Support the refuge team to when appropriate signpost and refer women and children to the services they wish to engage with for example social services, the police, parenting, health, legal, DWP, housing, homelessness, recreational, educational, and cultural services and also CWA’s other internal services.
Being responsive to requests from other members of the organisation for quantitative and qualitative data, including for example, the creation of case studies.
A current valid driving licence, access to a car and insurance covering business use is essential.

Main purpose of post
• Provide direct support to people affected by cancer by meeting in person with or providing digital or telephone support to people using the service (patients/clients, carers, relatives, professionals).
• Provide high quality information and support within defined level of competence in relation to cancer. This will include assessment of service users’ information and support needs (Holistic Needs Assessment/Cancer Care Review), provision of written or verbal information, supportive listening and action planning to facilitate self-management.
• Manage referrals from clinical teams in a timely manner, liaising with clinical teams, primary care teams and community partners where necessary.
• Provide care coordination around the individual to ensure their experience of support feels seamless and is transparent, including support from partner agencies.
What you do
Delivery of information and support to people living with and beyond cancer and their families
• Provide information and support within level of competence of the post (Macmillan Levels of Intervention Criteria L1,2,3,4; NICE approved four tier model of psychological support Level 1, 2 & 3).
• This will include:
• Assess the needs of individuals attending / contacting the service and identify the required level of intervention.
• Support users sensitively to help them understand clinical information they have been given (e.g. around diagnosis, treatment, effects of the illness and treatment, cancer terminology), helping to resolve situations where users feel they have been given conflicting information. This will include addressing concerns and queries and working to resolve them and the ability to recognise and work within the limits of own competence and responsibility is crucial, referring issues beyond these limits to relevant people.
• Understand that there will be frequent exposure to distressing/ highly distressing situations and deal with difficult and highly emotive situations in a sensitive manner and base decisions on own professional judgement.
• Deal with service users with complex enquiries or support needs, or who need help in accessing or understanding information, referring to appropriate members of the wider clinical team (CNS, oncologist) when appropriate or signpost them to other supportive services.
• Liaise with clinical staff to support patients and carers in distress.
• Demonstrate a high level of skill acquired through relevant training or equivalent experience whilst demonstrating awareness of the limits of own practice and knowledge and when to seek appropriate support/ advice.
• Provide supporting information around topics such as reducing the risk of cancer, healthy living, diagnosis, treatment options, side effects and living with cancer, in the most appropriate format (e.g. written, verbal, and others as appropriate to overcome any barriers to communication).
• Provide advice on a range of issues e.g. benefits, travel insurance, and facilitate access to services e.g. specialist benefits advice, complementary therapy.
• Liaise with relevant staff at all levels as appropriate both within the charity and externally to address issues identified, and seek advice with more complex issues, directly involving others where necessary, e.g. Clinical Lead (HCP), Cancer Information and Support Advisors, Head of Cancer Support Services; Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS).
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of effective relationships with partner organisations in primary and secondary and the voluntary the sector via networking, also giving talks and presenting at relevant groups.
• Plan and deliver ‘pop-up’ information clinics, ensuring these pop-up clinics are evaluated.
• Lead the development and delivery of courses and workshops.
• Lead peer support groups and service-user involvement.
Operational Delivery
• Collect and collate data regarding contacts with people who use the service both in person and by telephone and produce reports of activity as required.

We are a registered provider to local GPs and an organisational member of the Childhood Bereavement Network. About the role
As the Engagement and Assessment Team Leader, your team will be the first point of contact for someone who comes to Crisis for help to prevent or end their homelessness. You will be responsible for
- Ensuring that your team:

- Complete thorough Crisis and Mainstay assessments using a trauma informed approach,

- Agree realistic options and the support needed to assist them to prevent their homelessness or a pathway out of homelessness helping them formulate a holistic plan take the initial steps, where necessary.

- Effectively manage a caseload of members who require short term intervention to end their homelessness in a timely manner.
- Supervision and line management of your team/volunteers, including rota management to ensure effective service delivery.

About you
- Excellent knowledge of relevant homelessness, housing and welfare legislation
- Experience of working with individuals affected by homelessness or with complex and multiple support needs
- Experience of providing excellent customer service with a commitment to deliver the highest standard of customer care
- Ability to work co-operatively as part of a team in a busy and potentially pressured environment, dealing with challenging situations and behaviours with a calm and confident approach to reach a positive resolution.

REPORTS TO: Head of Canine Supply, Training and Welfare
We are looking for someone with the skills, experience and passion to join our team of trainers. They will be responsible for approximately 20 puppies from the age of around 8 weeks through to approximately 16 months of age. Ensuring they receive the highest standard of socialisation and training, thereby maximising their chances of becoming a Medical Detection Dog.
Responsibilities
Training and Development of Puppies
- Take responsibility for a group of puppies allocated to socialisers living in your geographical area
- When required, take dogs home during the training period to ensure continuous development and reinforcement of training routines.
- Provide training that adheres to ADUK regulations and MDD quality standards in accordance with timescales and targets.
- To deliver effective training by holding puppy classes, 121’s and home visits with socialisers in your geographical area
- Conduct regular training sessions with assistance dog puppies in training in various environments to ensure they are confident and responsive in real-world settings
- To prepare the puppy to be a Medical Alert Assistance Dog, using positive reinforcement techniques to teach desired behaviours and modify unwanted behaviours
- Regularly monitor progress of the puppies in your area and provide detailed, evidenced feedback to the senior team within Dog Supply and training
- Support and assist when required with the potential matches for a particular assistance dog partnership.
- To successfully prepare the puppy to pass the relevant Assistance Dog assessments
- Where necessary, highlight to your line manager, any dogs that are not progressing sufficiently through the training programme
Socialiser Support
- Be the first point of contact for the socialisers in your area, which will include guidance, support and instruction to socialisers on effective work and training with their assistance dogs.
- Provide general health care advice within your core working hours.
Socialiser Recruitment
- When required, assist in the recruitment of new volunteer socialisers.
- When required, to assess prospective new volunteer socialisers, including home, workplace, pet dog and children assessments.
Other
- Update the Harlequin CRM database in a timely fashion to ensure accurate and up to date training, veterinary and health records.
- Support the charity’s fundraising, communications and volunteering teams as required, specifically in relation to your area.

- Socialiser training including the ability to assess each person’s preferred learning style and adapt as appropriate your training approach, the specific programmes to be followed,
- Strong and clear teaching and instructing skills
- Ability to plan work, be organised and ensure that time is utilised effectively for yourself, colleagues and socialisers
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with a wide range of people internally and externally. This will include clients and their families, fosterers, other professional service providers, members of the public, the media, managers and other colleagues

How are staff supported to work remotely?
VoiceAbility has a small number of offices. Employees including Team Leaders are homebased for Administration and meetings will be held online as well as in person in the relevant community.
