Aseel is a technology startup harnessing innovative technology to improve lives in underdeveloped and underrepresented countries. We are bringing innovation to a sector which has been operating in the same manner for 20+ years. To date we have created two major programs:
Our Emergency Response program/humanitarian aid (Do Good) has delivered aid packages to over 430,000 Afghans this year. We prioritize women teachers (as they are no longer allowed to work) and poor families with children or disabled family members. We do this with only 16% overhead compared to the UN which exceeds 50% overhead. We don’t send employees from NYC, London and Geneva to ride around in bullet proof vehicles who don’t understand the local context. Our aid is delivered by a team which is 100% local. Further, all aid packages are purchased locally rather than being flown in, contributing much needed investment to the local economy.
Our second program, Everything Handmade (Buy Good) has allowed handmade artisans to sell their products to the global consumer. We are the social impact Etsy for the 90% of the world where such a platform isn’t accessible. We work with each artisan to take high quality photos and write content which will make their products appealing. We have onboarded 5,000 artisans who have sold 10,000+ products. Most register their first ever sale through us and those with existing sales see an average 25% growth in sales in the first 90 days. Cutting out the various middlemen/women and creating our own supply chain ensures more money goes to those who created the product.
Aseel challenges conventional growth models and techniques, fostering a culture of thinking big and learning from collective experience to bridge the gap between fast-paced technology sectors and impact-driven international development firms. Partnering with government and non-government entities, private companies, and international organizations, Aseel’s mission is to create disruptive technology solutions to complex global challenges.

We address the challenges of the lack of unadulterated, gluten-free and allergy free food products in the market, seeing that there are more than 100 000 cases of gluten intolerance per year. We also address the fact that post-harvest loss and knowledge gaps on post-harvest methods exist.
We help to solve those challenges by building a holistic and inclusive African Super-foods value chain to fight food insecurity, hunger and diseases. This is done through capacity building and technical assistance, processing and value addition training as well as access to markets. We partner with community heads and women leaders to identify, profile smallholder farmers, women and youth; we train them on agri-entrepreneural skills, post-harvest methods and techniques, business, financial and marketing skills. For example, we train on different methods of extending the life of staple crops such as plantains, sweet potatoes, etc. by processing them into flours, chips, puree, boiled, fried, pastries and much more. This way we provide beneficiaries with quality education, technical support, reduce post-harvest losses and facilitate market access.

Indiscriminate accumulation of material items common with Africans/Nigerians hitherto leading to household excesses that are often dilapidated over time and indiscriminately disposed improperly, causing harm to the environment. Items that could be repurposed, gifted, shared with others in need, that would mean extending item lifecycle and preservation of the planet in the long run.
We educate on material accumulation which leads to short and long term consequences of filled landfills also locally educating on indiscriminate item disposal which leads to blocked drainages, damaged roads and eventual environmental flooding. While we encourage the public to embrace goodwill, sharing and repurposing items that could have been hitherto indiscriminately disposed through our platform and also partnering, supporting other change makers doing outreaches, recycling, repurposing with received items to reach even wider households and lengthen items lifecycle.

Why we want you
Community Engagement placement volunteer role is as part of the REPAIR project.
REPAIR (Reunification Pathways for Integration) is a project delivered by a consortium of four national societies and partners; Austrian Red Cross (ARC), British Red Cross (BRC), French Red Cross (FRC), Slovenian Red Cross (SRC) led by the IFRC.
REPAIR aims are to enable safe and legal family reunification (FR) to Europe by providing assistance to Beneficiaries of International Protection (BiP) and their family members from pre-arrival to post arrival stage and facilitate the integration of reunited families. Here in the UK, we have four key objectives to be delivered.
REPAIR is one of the Family Reunion programmes under the International Family Tracing directorate within UK operations.
The community engagement element of the project consists of working with receiving communities also called host communities. The refugee convention gives beneficiaries of international protection, called refugees in the UK the right to be reunited with their family members. However, the legal right and duties toward these beneficiaries are not always understood by the receiving communities. This project aims to raise awareness among communities.
Enabling family reunification can be costly for organisations supporting refugees and for refugees themselves. We will be working with our fundraising colleagues to organise opportunities and activities including events aimed at raising funding toward the work of family reunion.
