Our Manager role is a key position at Swan Lifeline, supported by our animal care assistants and volunteers overseeing the day-to-day running of the site.
This is a physical, outdoor role that supports our mission to Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release Swans back to the wild. Some experience on the water would be an advantage but not essential as training can be given.
Swan Lifeline is the oldest registered charity devoted entirely to the care of sick and injured swans in the Thames Valley and surrounding area and has cared for thousands of sick and injured swans over the last 30 years.
Key Responsibilities
● Lead daily animal care, including feeding, cleaning and site maintenance.
● On a daily basis, manage staff, volunteers and work with Trustees.
● Attend swan rescues and releases, handling birds in a safe, sensitive and confident manner.
● Being able to confidently liaise with members of the public/emergency services.
● Allocate daily tasks to our team of onsite staff and volunteers.
● Maintain and prepare our rescue equipment.
● Handle enquiries from the general public via phone and email.
● Able to handle pressure calmly and professionally.
You will have the following skills and strengths:
● Experience in animal care and treating sick or injured animals.
● Good customer facing skills, and positive behaviours in dealing with people.
● Initiative and ability to work well as part of a team and on own without close supervision.
● Full, Clean manual driving licence.

● Previous experience of working with Swans/large waterfowl.
● Experience as a Team leader or similar.
● Practical experience and confidence working on/near the river (eg: use of Kayak).

JOB PURPOSE
The Children and Young People’s Mentor will work within the CYP team to deliver services relating to children and young people affected by Domestic violence and Abuse.
They will hold a caseload for direct 1-1 work with young people/ girls and deliver a programme of groups in schools to adolescent girls. Responsibilities will include recording of data, reporting and completing evaluations.
They will be expected to promote the work of the Rising Sun and take a share of responsibility in delivering or assisting with promotional work within the organisation.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Service delivery
- Work 1-1 with young people (aged 11 to 15 years) affected by Domestic violence and Abuse
- Build positive working relationships with local schools to deliver this programme
- Hold own caseload and respond in a way that understands the needs of the young people the Rising Sun supports
- Work in a mentoring capacity with children and adolescents with a specific focus on domestic abuse and its impact
- Recognise the impact of domestic abuse on young people and families; showing empathy and understanding in working with these families and developing the capacity to adopt a trauma informed approach to the work
- Support and facilitate groups in schools and in the community focusing on healthy relationships, spotting red flags etc
- Work flexibly with young people and meet with them in a variety of settings such as schools, colleges and community centres, depending on their needs
- Work creatively and flexibly to help support a vulnerable and at times challenging client group.
- Build relationships with partner agencies such as social care, early help, schools, police and health services
- Attend meetings on behalf of the Rising Sun where necessary, promote multi-agency working and build positive working relationships with external agencies at all times
- Work as part of a team, supporting colleagues and building positive working-relationships with team members
- Availability to work some evenings and weekends as required
- The ability to manage time well and prioritise tasks depending on day-to-day events
General
- At all times work professionally and to a high standard, setting an example to the wider team and external partners

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge and Qualifications
- A relevant qualification in working with children and young people (Desirable)
- A thorough understanding of violence against women and girls with a particular focus on domestic abuse (coercive control, sexual violence, so-called ‘honour- based violence’, forced marriage and FGM)
- Experience of working with young girls and adolescent females with focus around understanding emotions, shame and gender identity (Desirable)
- Excellent understanding of the impact of domestic violence on children and young people, families and communities
- Thorough knowledge of safeguarding practice, procedures and legislation
- Good understanding of the operation of the agencies working together to support survivors such as social services, police, MARAC etc (Desirable)
Experience
- Relevant experience of working 1 to 1 with young people
- Experience of facilitating groups with young people (Desirable)
- Experience of advocating for the rights of survivors to access safety and freedom alongside partner agencies to facilitate this
- Experience of assessing needs, safety and support planning, considering accessibility needs

The new government has an ambition to halve knife crime within a decade, and we’re anticipating opportunities to work with them to build evidence on new approaches to tackling violence involving children. Serve as a senior member of the team. YEF is buzzing with activity and in order to prevent any bottlenecks, we need to expand our senior capacity.

Run and manage closed calls for complex evaluations commissioned under Targeted Projects. For each of the programmes we work with, we find and appoint independent evaluators.

Provide support and counsel to our team of Senior Evaluation Managers and Evaluation Managers. This team closely manages over 35 efficacy trials, over 20 pilot studies and even more in the earlier stages of evaluation.

Tightly manage and quality assure evaluations commissioned under Targeted Projects. YEF has set processes to maintain high standards and rigour. This role will ensure all evaluations adhere to these.

AAFDA was founded by Frank Mullane in memory of his sister Julia Pemberton and her son Will who were both killed by her ex-partner in 2003.
Each year, around 150 families lose a loved one to domestic homicide. The actual number of suicides as a result of domestic abuse remains unknown. Most of these families suffer significant problems including relationship breakdown, job difficulties/loss and mental and physical health issues. We help these families in many ways, our prime function being to provide families in England and Wales with specialist peer support and expert and specialist advocacy for the range of statutory reviews that will take place after domestic homicide.
AAFDA (Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse) is a growing Charity and to meet the demands of this growth, we are looking for an exceptional candidate to join our team in a highly rewarding opportunity. Although home based, some travel will be required - frequency will be commensurate to the role. We welcome applications from candidates with experience of domestic abuse. Our Specialist Advocates support families impacted by fatal domestic abuse through provision of lay advocacy for and on behalf of families with a range of statutory service providers (e.g. those conducting reviews and inquiries, social services, police, housing) and work to build good relations between all parties. To ensure that families get the support they need, you will use AAFDA’s Home Office endorsed seven-step approach to working with individuals and families, to ensure that they receive the best possible support and advocacy to restore dignity and relief for families and to help them cope and recover. Through trauma-informed approaches, you will:
- listen to families and advocate for them in a complex system that too often treats them as passive participants and overlooks the value of their insight;
- provide information, support, guidance, advice and advocacy on Domestic Homicide Reviews, Mental Health Reviews, Inquests, Independent Office of Police Conduct inquiries and other types of Inquiries;
- manage families’ expectations of the legal and procedural processes facing them by supporting families in meetings with agencies such as health, police and local authorities;
- give families practical help on a wide range of issues - including help with letter writing or advocating with employers and local authorities on the families’ behalf;
- Support AAFDA in our bringing families together in AAFDA’s peer support events, such as the Hear Our Voice weekend and the on-line peer support Zoom sessions, where families can speak with others to share their experiences and stories. This will involve occasional evening work.
This role is offered on a full-time basis.

The Diocese of Guildford has an exciting part-time opportunity for a Community Lead to manage our Hear Here project.
The Hear Here Project is a community-focused initiative which involves collaboration between the Diocese, Parishes, NHS Audiology Departments and Sight for Surrey to assist those who wear an NHS-issued hearing aid with any technical issues at clinics run by trained hearing champions. The clinics helps to break the cycle of isolation often experienced by those with hearing loss.
The project, powered by volunteers, operates in parish churches and other community spaces, forming a key part of the diocese's "Growing Communities" strategy.
The role involves leading, managing, and ensuring the governance of Hear Here across the diocese. The Community Project Lead will work closely with volunteers, maintaining high clinic standards and fostering relationships with key partners to secure the project’s future and enhance its outreach potential.
Key Responsibilities include:
· Providing overall leadership and manage the daily activities of Hear Here.
· Promote the project across the diocese, ensuring it is recognised as a vital part of parish outreach and mission.

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering.
