Role purpose:

Founded in 1997, the Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants provides a place for refugees, migrants, and people seeking asylum to rebuild their life with support and community. From classes to casework to financial assistance, the Centre has a wide offering available for our community of over 200 people. Our approach is compassionate and human and the support we offer is long term - on average people stay with us around four years.

The current Board brings a wide range of charity and public body experience including strategy and fundraising and we are looking for skills to both enhance and complement these strengths.

The Centre has a dedicated and talented staff team led by our CEO, Andy Ruiz Palma, who joined in 2000 as an English teacher. The role:

We are looking for a volunteer to take a lead on our internal and external monitoring and evaluation work; gathering data about different areas of our activities to ensure that we are having as much impact as possible and can communicate that clearly to a variety of audiences. This role will also be responsible for collecting and assessing valuable evidence about the experiences of bi communities in the UK, helping the charity to share insight into the bi community.

Sitting within the Organisational Development team, this role is a crucial connecting point between teams to help the charity continually identify areas for improvement and growth. This is an exciting opportunity to grow within a small team and help to develop this area of the charity’s work, with aspirations to explore opportunities for longer-term, externally-funded research and evaluation projects, and develop a Policy function for the charity. 

Ideal time commitment: approx. 5-10 hours per month; flexible.

Supported/ supervised by: the Head of Organisational Development, also working closely with the Organisational Development team.

Key tasks of this role will include:

Our team volunteers remotely from anywhere in the UK, with some travel required occasionally (primarily for our flagship Pride event in London in August). Regular team meetings take place via conference call and are scheduled in line with the team’s best availability.

The Vision Friends project has been running successfully for the past five years, providing free, Welsh Government-funded training to health and social care professionals across Wales. The training is designed to help professionals better understand and support people living with sight loss.

This year, we are launching a new strand of the project: Vision Friends: First Responders. The aim is to adapt our existing training to specifically support first responder services to enhance their ability to support individuals with sight loss in emergency and urgent care situations.

We are seeking a committed and empathetic volunteer to help us shape a more inclusive future by gathering valuable feedback from blind and partially sighted individuals, as well as first responders via online forums. Role Requirements

As a Video Editor, you will:

• Edit raw footage into polished and engaging videos.
• Add graphics, animations, and subtitles to enhance video quality.
• Collaborate with the podcast and media teams to create promotional materials.
• Work on highlight reels and trailers to showcase IHF’s work and podcast content.
• Ensure all videos align with IHF’s branding and storytelling goals.

Skills We Value

• Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve).
• Creative storytelling through visual media.
• Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Experience in graphic design or animation is a plus.
