ROLES

Fundraising Advocate - Raise awareness and funds to help Building Heroes and the veterans we support! Get involved in a one-time event or provide long-term fundraising support by attending regular events. We will assist with any promotion or administrative needs however, we are counting on you to raise the funds! Organise an event yourself or join one of ours! Current fundraising events include: The London Summer Walk, The Great North Run, The Great South Run, The Building Heroes Bike Ride, and many more!

Charity Advocate - Our charity advocates are responsible for raising awareness of Building Heroes and our initiatives. They are responsible for promoting the charity within the military community and connecting with key members to spread awareness of our services. This can include conducting talks and presentations in military venues, introducing members of the military community to our charity and training partners, finding new areas for us to promote our programmes, and promoting the charity at events for the wider public (e.g. Armed Forces Day, retail fundraising.)

Mentor Advocate - As a mentoring advocate, you will be responsible for directly supporting veterans and service leavers who are seeking assistance through Building Heroes. You will help our Academy Leads to guide learners through their transition from military to civilian life by sharing personal experiences and signposting to the relevant support to help learners to achieve their goals. This role could include: an informal chat/presentation to a group currently on a Building Heroes programme, assisting the Academy Lead to support learners one-to-one, signposting learners to relevant organisations/support to assist them with any personal or professional issues. This is our most challenging role and needs someone empathetic, good at communicating, and with military experience.

ABOUT US

Help us support those who have served. Established in 2014, Building Heroes provides construction training and employment support to the military community—including veterans, service leavers, reservists, and their families. We offer pathways to meaningful civilian careers in construction, infrastructure and green skills, empowering our armed forces community learners to transition successfully into civilian life. Each year, hundreds benefit from our programmes, which are 90% or fully funded, minimising costs to our beneficiaries. These courses equip them not only with professional skills but also build confidence and community, making them job-ready and civilian life-ready.

Solta o Jogo is a vibrant cultural competition and festival celebrating Brazilian heritage through Capoeira, music, dance, acrobatics, and a Brazilian arts & crafts fair. Hosted at Kingston University Townhouse, the event invites the community to participate in free performances, workshops, and exhibitions promoting cross-cultural understanding.

As part of this initiative, we are seeking a dedicated Admin Assistant to support the day-to-day coordination and administrative operations behind this exciting and community-driven programme.

Position Overview:
The Admin Assistant will play a vital role in supporting communication, event coordination, documentation, and volunteer tracking. This position is perfect for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit administration, event logistics, and team coordination. Key Responsibilities:

Event Coordination Support

• Schedule and manage logistics for project events, workshops, and community showcases.

• Assist with preparing and maintaining volunteer schedules.

• Provide administrative support during volunteer briefings and training.

General Administrative Duties

• Take meeting minutes and circulate action items.

• Help draft internal updates, task lists, and team reminders.

• Provide general clerical support as needed.

Womankind is recruiting reliable and resilient women, who are able to commit to 1-2 daytime hours each week for six months, to join our Volunteer Befriending Service. Befrienders encourage and support vulnerable women who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse, empowering them to make their own decisions and improve their mental health and wellbeing so that they can lead more fulfilling lives. 

Training: 

Befrienders attend an initial online meet & greet session and then receive 4 taught sessions of comprehensive training over Zoom. These sessions will take place over 4 weeks, starting in Autumn 2025 (DATES AND TIMES TBC). Befrienders will be expected to complete homestudy in between sessions. You will be part of a team of trainees and benefit from peer support as well as help and guidance from the Volunteer Coordinator. Our training comes with over 30 years of experience working in women’s mental health, giving volunteers the very best preparation for the role, and a support network of like-minded women. 

The Role: 

Upon the completion of training, each volunteer is matched with one woman who has experienced childhood abuse, trauma, sexual violence and/or domestic abuse, and will be experiencing mental ill health and social isolation. 

As a befriender you would be expected to commit 1-2 hours on a weekly basis for 6 months and attend monthly group and individual supervision. Many of our volunteers decide they would like to be matched with another woman after the completion of their first match and continue volunteering with us for another 6 months. 

You and your befriendee would start by getting to know each other gradually. Once you have built up your relationship, you would support her emotionally, using active listening skills and providing her with a space to express her feelings and feel heard. You would help her to believe that she can achieve her goals and have safer relationships. Part of your role would be demonstrating what a healthy and boundaried relationship looks like. 

You: 

You will be enthusiastic and interested in helping another woman improve her mental health and wellbeing so that she can lead a more fulfilling life. You will be friendly and non-judgemental, have good communication skills and be a reliable and patient listener. 

The befriending role can be challenging and emotionally overwhelming at times. Therefore, we need befrienders who have adequate life experience and feel emotionally robust and resilient enough to take on the role. We welcome volunteers with personal experience of mental health and other relevant issues but will require you to have at least a one-year period of stability and ideally to have received professional help like counselling in your recovery. 

As this is a remote service, we welcome applications from women who are based across the UK. 

Please note, there is very limited availability for women who can only volunteer during the evenings and weekends. 

Because of the nature of this role, it is only open to women applicants and is exempt under Schedule 9 Part 1 Equalities Act 2010.

Information and Advice Service: The Information and Advice service for older people provides a free, confidential, and independent service for anyone aged 65+ living in the borough of Bromley and 50 + plus in Greenwich. Our advisers provide general advice on a range of subjects: employment rights, welfare benefits, housing, consumer rights and adult social care.

Role Summary: Supporting and providing information to clients across a wide range of enquiry areas including welfare benefits, housing, Social Care, relationships, and consumer issues.

What will I be involved in?

• Identify and research information and services to signpost that are relevant to the client’s situation, drawing on information resources, agencies, and other sources of information.
• Committed to researching and providing up to date information to vulnerable older people using the internet and other resources.
• Familiarize and keep updated with resources available from Age UK factsheets and Information Guides available.
• Completion of the Adviser Induction programme which includes training courses on relevant topics. Followed by shadowing sessions within the I & A Team.
• Successfully complete online training courses for Age UK Bromley and Greenwich volunteers.
• Participate in volunteer support meetings with the Advice Case Supervisor and any training on safeguarding adults and appropriate boundaries.
• Present and discuss information and advice with the client’s consent, act on their behalf, and represent their interests with third parties by letter, telephone or in person.
• Recording and updating case records on Charitylog including capturing consent. Using Microsoft packages and emails.

Shannon Trust fulfils an unmet need around adult learning, supporting people who’ve fallen through the cracks in formal education.

We know a lot of people have had negative learning experiences in the past, so our programme is designed to be different, with no exams and no classrooms. Our unique, evidence-based Turning Pages reading manuals are used by thousands of learners in prisons and the community to improve reading skills. 

Area administrators are an invaluable part of our team. They provide administrative support to our area coordinators and teams, organising and taking notes in area meetings. They're also an important link in how we evidence the impact of Shannon Trust, prompting and following-up data and monthly reports from our prison volunteers.

We are looking for a volunteer who is organised and good IT and admin skills. You will provide support to your area coordinator in supporting both prisons and volunteers. You will be providing communication links between everyone through organising meetings and sending email updates. Your role will help us to access the vital information which shows our impact on our learners.

Much of the role can take place on any day of the week and in the evenings but you will need to be able to attend a daytime area meeting 4 times a year, attend our induction workshops and national area administrators meetings.

As our Delivery Manager you will be responsible for the delivery and long-term strategy of Unlock YOUR Potential's delivery programmes. You will be responsible for;

• Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of all programmes and services.
• Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to enhance our offerings.
• Ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve programme delivery and impact.

• Support the team in troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise during programme delivery.

Unify Giving is a digital donation platform that connects donors directly to verified individuals in need — no middlemen, full transparency. Think of it as a new way to give, where your impact is visible, personal, and meaningful.

Training and Support

We offer a tour of our exhibitions with the artist(s) or a member of staff prior to their opening. This will give you a first hand insight into the concept, processes and artist’s vision behind the exhibition.

Availability 

The gallery is open to the public Tuesday to Sunday, 10am – 5pm, with two volunteer shifts a day, 10am – 1pm and 1pm – 5pm.

We ask for a minimum commitment of one shift every fortnight, although there is flexibility over scheduling.

Location 

This role is based at Orleans House Gallery, in either the Main Gallery or Stables Gallery. 

Expenses 

We will cover travel expenses up to £17 per day.
