We are looking for volunteers to spend some time with our clients  in and around Central London or  to speak to them over the phone.  Our current needs are in Tulse Hill and Stepney Green, and we are looking for someone to call, then potentially meet with a client in Bromley.Locations  often change as new referrals come in, so if you are interested in befriending someone and making a positive difference to their emotional well being, please contact us, we may have a client in your area!  

 Meetings are regular, usually weekly or fortnightly, for at least 6 months although most of our volunteers stay involved for much longer than this, only because they enjoy what they do!  Phone calls are usually up to one hour and  are made once a week from any quiet space in your home or office. 

Befriending is a simple way to make a positive difference to someone who feels lonely or is socially isolated.  Your gift of time and companionship will give them, and you, something to look forward to. As one of our volunteers once said,“this is an easy, very meaningful way to help someone and is immensely rewarding and fun!”  

Meetings are held in the local community, having a friendly chat in a coffee shop, visiting places of interest together, or in our client’s home.Our clients are older Scots, (60  plus ) who simply want to do the activities that most of us take for granted.

We provide training before you start, ongoing support once you are matched, out of pocket expenses, references, social events and newsletters. 

This could be the ideal opportunity  for you to gain practical experience of working with adults in a health and social care setting, or for anyonewho simply enjoys meeting new people and making their lives a little brighter.

• Sharing RNIB’s information & initiatives so people know we’re here for them.
• If you have a personal link to sight loss, sharing your experience during the session to help give a tangible example of how local people can make a real difference.
• Telling us about any activities you have engaged in via a Microsoft form.

Do you have good communication skills and enjoy meeting and helping people? We need friendly, enthusiastic people like you to give visitors to our Products for Life Store the best possible experience when they come to us for information about our products and services or general enquiries. Products for Life Store consultations are a great way of customers finding out about the products that RNIB offers, and give customers the chance to try and view products.

The role involves welcoming customers and assisting customers to view and try products before they buy, recording purchases on the till (training will be provided) and some admin tasks such as using excel, checking stock lists and processing payments.

We are looking for volunteers with a welcoming and friendly nature, who enjoy interacting with customers and have some experience of Microsoft Office and Excel.

Moderators help guide discussions, uphold community guidelines, support members, and assist with the smooth day-to-day operation of the server. This role helps create an inclusive environment where members feel comfortable participating and engaging with others.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor Discord channels to ensure conversations remain respectful, safe, and aligned with community guidelines.

The Fixing Factory is a community repair hub where we teach repair skills, repair and refurbish electrical waste, and help people keep their electrical items in use for longer.

Our work is made possible with the support of a team of volunteers who help people to get their electronic items fixed, learn repair skills and provide valuable support to environmental charities Possible (The 10:10 Foundation) and The Restart Project.

We’re looking for Experienced Fixers to join our volunteer team and help diagnose and repair electrical items at the Haringey Fixing Factory. Your skills will help keep valuable items in use for longer — supporting our mission to reduce waste and support our community.

What you’ll be doing:

• Diagnosing and repairing electrical items such as lamps, kettles, toasters and laptops
• Testing and signing off items ready for sale or donation
• Supporting less experienced fixers with more complex repairs
• Talking one-on-one with members of the public about how items can be repaired
• Helping keep the workshop safe, tidy and welcoming

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has strong electrical repair skills and experience fixing a range of items
• Can work independently and confidently troubleshoot faults

Terms: Voluntary. ICNARC’s Trustees will serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment.

About the Role

The Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre (ICNARC) has an outstanding national and international reputation for clinical audit and clinical and health services research. The organisation is run by a Board of Management comprising the Senior Leadership Team (the SLT, led by the Co-Directors) and Trustees who are a group of volunteers with substantial experience and interest in critical care, clinical research and management.

We are now looking to recruit a Treasurer/Trustee to join our Board. The Treasurer will oversee the financial matters of the charity in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing document and legal requirements, charity commission and company requirements. This post holder will chair the Audit and Risk Sub-Committee (ARSC) and will report regularly to the Board on the financial position of the organisation and ensure that effective measures, controls and procedures are in place.

Responsibilities of all Trustees:

Trustees are responsible for directing the affairs of ICNARC via the Board of Management, ensuring that the strategic direction of the organisation is in line with the Mission, and assuring themselves that the governance of the organisation is sound, and ICNARC is efficient and well-run in accordance with its stated values.

Principal responsibilities of the Treasurer:

• Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts, financial statements and financial reports to the Board of Management alongside the Chief Operating Officer and Financial Controller
• Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs and are within the charities objects.
• Supporting the Chief Operating Officer in the development and implementation of appropriate financial, reserves and investment policies
• Providing guidance to the Chief Operating Officer to ensure compliance with the requirements of Company Law

Time commitment

The Board of Management meets four times a year and is supplemented by a range of sub-committees which enable the Board to carry out its role of developing the strategy of the organisation, ensuring its sound governance, and holding the SLT to account for delivery of its agreed policies and goals in accordance with its stated values. In addition to the formal governance structure. These sub-committees, including the ARSC, also meet quarterly in advance of the Board meetings.  Trustees are expected to provide advice and support to the SLT in accordance with their professional background as required.

Key tasks

▪ Observation and Assessment: Observe classes (in-person or virtually) and assess the teaching quality, content delivery, and student engagement based on established criteria.
