Volunteer Shop Assistants carry out a wide range of tasks in their roles. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, keeping our shop floor full and organised or supporting with raffle ticket sales and promoting gift aid.

When you begin your role, you will receive a mix of e-learning and in-person training to get you started. About Paintings in Hospitals:

Paintings in Hospitals supports the health and wellbeing of people who need it the most, through the life-enriching power of art. Every day we witness the significant physical, mental, and emotional impact of our work on the lives of people in need around the UK. 

Established in 1959, our charity is now the UK’s leading arts in health organisation. Six decades of experience and expertise have enabled us to develop a unique art collection of over 3,000 original works, alongside art projects and engagement activities that transform the experiences of patients, service users, and staff.

Duties may include:

• Picking & packing food items ready for dispatch or collection.
• Performing physical tasks including lifting, loading, moving and storing goods.
• Recording quantities and types of food.
• Checking labels and dates on food.
• Following instructions - adhering to Health & Safety and Food Safety procedures.
• Keeping work areas clean & tidy.

You will need to be

• Adaptable - managing surplus food can be unpredictable.
