We are offering 2 young people aged 18-25 the opportunity to volunteer with the Portuguese Red Cross in Braga, Portugal. Next placement dates are planned for: 5th January - end of August 2026.

You will be working on a range of projects, which will give you the chance to explore the different kinds of social action that the Portuguese Red Cross undertake in Braga. 

Typical tasks may involve:

• Supporting the charity shop, Ponto Vermelho, with social media, sorting donations and organising the displays.
• Supporting in the Youth Centre for the Roma Community – organising and delivering activities, helping with homework.
• Supporting in the Foster Care for Unaccompanied Minor Refugees.
• Supporting the Social Kindergarten.
• Assisting with projects which help the homeless and the elderly.
• Assisting in the writing of project proposals and funding bids.

These are fully funded placements, with return flights, accommodation and health insurance covered - volunteers receive a small monthly stipend for living expenses.

Our outreach service provides enhanced support for vulnerable and intimidated witnesses who may need additional support and preparation ahead of trial day so they can give their best evidence in court.

What will you do?

Support a diverse range of vulnerable and intimidated witnesses and be their key supporter before, during and after the trial to help them prepare and cope with their experience of giving evidence.

Work collaboratively with witnesses to identify their needs and deliver a tailored package of preparation and support.

Meet with witnesses via video call and phone.

Show witnesses around the court before the trial so they are familiar and at ease in the environment.

Attend court on the day the witness gives evidence, accompanying them when giving evidence where permitted.

Make contact with the witness post trial to talk about their experience of giving evidence and facilitate referrals to other agencies.
 

What skills will you need?

You don’t need specific qualifications but you’ll need to:

- Be friendly, caring, supportive and empathetic towards others.
- Be non-judgemental and impartial.
- Have good communication skills; both written and verbal, as well as being a good listener.
- Be able to work effectively as part of a diverse team
- Be reliable, committed and flexible, with an ability to plan and organise your own time and tasks.
- The ability to handle challenging situations and use your initiative, experience and training to solve problems and make appropriate decisions.
- The ability to travel within your local area (in some areas this may require a vehicle).

About Us
As a sustainability charity, we take surplus food that's donated to us and redistribute it to people in need.
The front line initiatives we support include food banks, schools, community groups and charities who, in turn, help people who are disadvantaged by poverty.

We need helping hands in our busy warehouse to receive and catalogue supplies, to load and unload vans, and to prepare orders for delivery. Background.

Saddleworth Village Games is a registered Charity in England and Wales since 2016, but the foundation has been running since 1985 and celebrated its 40th year in 2025. The organisation offers sports for children aged seven to 14 in the Saddleworth area that range from athletics, swimming, dodgeball, and netball, including many, many more. Everyone involved in the games is a volunteer and the organisation relies on donations from the competing children’s parents and local business who sponsor the games.

Local businesses sponsoring the games has been in place for the last few years and without their support putting the games on each year wouldn’t be possible without them. The committee are now looking for a strategic partnership officer to work with our sponsors and support them whilst looking to attract new sponsors too.

Sponsors have two options when working with us and these are outlined below.

1. A £1,200 payment per year which is £100 per month where they receive their logo on every page of our website, a full-page advert in our yearly brochure, their logo on each village banner that is displayed at events, the opportunity to have a stall at our opening ceremony and to present a trophy at one of the villages presentation evenings.
2. A £240 a year deal which is £20 a month where they receive half a page advert in our brochure and their logo on one page of our website.

Roles and responsibilities.

• Work with existing sponsors to ensure they want to continue their partnership with us.
• Resolve any issues sponsors may face including making their payments to us or general queries.
•  Identifying new sponsors from the local and wider arear, informing them of their options to sponsor us as outlined above and getting them on board.
• Leasing with our chairman to keep him informed of sponsors, our treasurer to keep them informed of the payment, with our brochure producer to ensure their advert is the correct size and ready for print, plus our website-maintenance team to ensure their logos are online.
• Ensuring payments are received on a monthly basis to ensure the sponsors are making their financial contribution to us and chasing any missed payments where this may occur.
• Inviting our premium sponsors who pay £1,200 a year to our opening ceremony and leasing with the chairman in relation to their stalls they may wish to have at this event. Inviting them to present a trophy at a village presentation night.

About The Role

We believe that the best way for people to understand and connect to wetlands is to experience them, so we bring awe-inspiring nature up close. At Martin Mere Wetland Centre, visitors can explore unique wetland habitats and the amazing array of birds, mammals and amphibians that inhabit them. Our volunteers help to welcome and inspire visitors and get to experience looking after our unique habitats and heritage.

It is a great feeling showing a visitor a bird they’ve not seen before or helping them to tell the difference between 2 species they’ve been struggling on for ages.  That spark of enthusiasm can make such a difference!

We are currently looking for volunteers that can help us out as a Guide in the Hide on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Fridays.

The Mental Health Recovery Pathway (MHRP) service provides day service opportunities for people with low and medium Preventative Care Needs.

We are currently looking to offer volunteering placements with our Mental Health Recovery Pathway (MHRP) – a mental health provision based across three sites in Islington responding to the mental health needs of Islington residents.

You will be assisting service users who experience mental distress in group settings.

We ask for a commitment of at least 1 day a week 10:15am – 4:00pm for a full year (+ about 2-3 months for DBS check and induction), though there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer more than one day a week.

The difference you will make to cats and people

At Cats Protection we passionately believe that neutering cats before they can breed is an essential part of cat ownership and without neutering the UK’s cat population would quickly get out of control. Our neutering team lead volunteers help spread positive neutering messages and make it easier for owners on low incomes to get their cats neutered. • keeping the branch committee updated on branch neutering activity and budget
• ensuring cats and kittens are neutered in line with Cats Protection policies

Time expectation 

Our neutering team leader volunteers usually spend between five to 10 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.
