Job description

LEAD A UNIT. SHAPE YOUNG LIVES. BECOME A CADET UNIT COMMANDING OFFICER

  • Uniformed Volunteer Role
  • Rank: One Pip
  • Location: London

Ranger Cadets is building a new generation of confident, resilient, community‑minded young people — and we are seeking inspiring leaders to guide them at the heart of our organisation.

As a Cadet Unit Commanding Officer, you will take command of a local Ranger Cadet Unit within London. Wearing the rank of One Pip, you will lead volunteers, support young people, uphold our standards, and bring the Ranger Cadets mission to life every week.

This is a leadership role with purpose, pride, and real impact.

THE ROLE: CADET UNIT COMMANDING OFFICER (CADET UNIT MANAGER)

Unit Commanding Officers are the beating heart of Ranger Cadets. They create the environment where young people grow, where confidence is built, skills are learned, and pride is earned.

As a Unit Commanding Officer, you will:

  • Lead and manage your local Ranger Cadet Unit.

  • Support, mentor, and inspire a team of volunteer instructors.

  • Deliver high‑quality training sessions that build life skills and resilience.

  • Ensure safeguarding, safety, and operational standards are upheld.

  • Build a positive, inclusive, and disciplined unit culture.

  • Represent Ranger Cadets at local events, parades, and community activities.

  • Support cadets to take part in service projects that make a real difference.

  • Uphold the ceremonial identity and values of the organisation.

Your leadership shapes the experience of every cadet who walks through your doors.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

Ranger Cadets is a new uniformed youth organisation with a bold mission: to equip young people with essential life skills, tools, and opportunities to become active citizens who make a positive contribution to society.

Cadets grow in confidence, resilience, leadership, and pride — but this transformation begins at the unit level.

Unit Commanding Officers ensure:

  • Young people feel safe, supported, and inspired.

  • Volunteers are confident and empowered.

  • Training is meaningful, structured, and engaging.

  • The unit reflects the values and dignity of Ranger Cadets.

  • Families and communities see the impact of our mission.

  • Ranger Cadets get out in the community in uniform, showing the positive good young people can do.

Your leadership becomes the foundation on which young people build their future.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You don’t need previous cadet or uniformed experience — though it’s welcome. What matters most is your heart for young people and your ability to lead.

We are seeking individuals who are:

  • Confident, organised, and reliable.

  • Strong communicators and natural motivators.

  • Passionate about youth development and community service.

  • Able to lead a team with warmth, clarity, and purpose.

  • Comfortable wearing a uniform and upholding standards.

  • Ready to commit to weekly unit leadership and planning.

If you have experience in teaching, coaching, youth work, management, or community leadership, this role will feel deeply rewarding.

A CHANCE TO BUILD A LEGACY

Ranger Cadets is at the beginning of its journey. As a founding Unit Commanding Officer, you will help shape:

  • The culture of your unit.

  • The traditions and ceremonies.

  • The training programme.

  • The volunteer team.

  • The experience of every cadet who joins.

This is your opportunity to build something meaningful — a unit that becomes a source of pride for young people, families, and the community.

STEP FORWARD. TAKE COMMAND. CHANGE LIVES.

If you believe in the potential of young people… If you want to lead with purpose and pride… If you’re ready to wear the uniform and guide a new generation…

Then Ranger Cadets needs you.

Become a Cadet Unit Commanding Officer today — and lead a unit that will shape lives for years to come.
