Job Description – HR Manager
Organisation: Children With Voices

Job Purpose
The HR Manager plays a vital role in supporting the vision and mission of Children With Voices by ensuring that all HR practices are fair, compliant, and aligned with safeguarding, equity, and community wellbeing. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources, from recruitment and staff development to compliance and wellbeing initiatives. The HR Manager will be instrumental in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where staff, volunteers, and young people can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee Daily HR Operations
- Manage HR functions to ensure efficiency, compliance, and alignment with organisational goals.
- Champion safeguarding and equality in every aspect of HR practice.
- Recruitment & Onboarding
- Lead fair and inclusive recruitment, ensuring diversity, equal opportunity, and alignment with our safeguarding responsibilities.
- Deliver onboarding that instils Children With Voices’ values, safeguarding culture, and commitment to community impact.
- HR Policies & Compliance
- Develop and implement HR policies and procedures in line with UK employment law, charity governance, and safeguarding legislation.
- Ensure GDPR compliance and maintain secure, confidential records.
- Training & Development
- Coordinate training on safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Support ongoing professional and personal development for staff and volunteers.
- Employee Relations & Wellbeing
- Provide advice and support on employee concerns, encouraging a culture of respect, accountability, and collaboration.
- Promote mental health and wellbeing initiatives, aligned with our duty of care.
- Volunteer Engagement
- Oversee volunteer recruitment, DBS checks, safeguarding induction, and ongoing engagement.
- Support volunteers to feel valued and integrated into the charity’s mission.
- Collaboration with Leadership
- Work closely with the CEO and department leads to ensure HR strategies support the organisation’s mission and goals.
- Streamline HR processes to improve efficiency and impact.
- Conflict Resolution
- Mediate disputes fairly, maintaining trust and confidentiality.
- Support managers in handling sensitive matters in line with policy and safeguarding standards.

- Maintain accurate HR records, ensuring data protection compliance.
- Administer employee benefits and ensure fair, transparent processes.

- Ensure workplace compliance with health and safety legislation.
- Embed safeguarding responsibilities across all HR practices, ensuring no child or vulnerable adult falls through the gaps.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in an HR management role, ideally within the charity or community sector.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law, HR compliance, and safeguarding requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust at all levels.
- Experience managing recruitment, onboarding, and training processes.
- Ability to mediate and resolve conflicts in a fair, professional, and sensitive manner.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and confidentiality.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and community empowerment.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- CIPD qualification (Level 5 or above) or equivalent HR certification.
- Experience working with volunteers, young people, or community-focused organisations.
- Knowledge of charity governance and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience in developing wellbeing or mental health initiatives.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Independent Visitor Volunteer
Our Independent Visitor Volunteers provide consistent and supportive relationships to children ad young people in care, offering emotional support, companionship, and guidance through shared activities and time together. The Independent Visitor plays a vital role in helping the young people build confidence and feel secure while enhancing their personal, social, and cultural development.
As an Independent Visitor Volunteer in England, you might:
- support the child/young person to experience enriching activities that contribute to their personal and cultural development
- engage in activities such as pursuing hobbies, meeting for meals, or socialising in a community setting
- listen to and support the young person, fostering a sense of safety and trust
- help the young person develop social skills and increase their involvement in their community
- develop a positive and lasting relationship, ensuring the young person feels valued and supported
You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that the Independent Visitor Volunteers generally volunteer at evening and weekends due to the children’s and young person’s availability.

About CARAS:
Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is a registered charity that has been supporting refugees and asylum-seekers since 2002 empowering them to integrate and engage in the local community.

About the Role:
CARAS is looking for volunteer Football Assistants to support our Football sessions on Mondays, 5.30-7pm in Balham.
Football coaching sessions are led by Fulham FC Kicks programme weekly, supported by CARAS volunteers to offer welcome to young people.
Volunteer tasks and responsibilities
· Welcoming young people to the session;
· Helping young people to register for sessions;
· Join in and be role model for young refugees and asylum seekers;
· Assisting participants to recognise and celebrate their achievements;
· Following FULHAM FC safeguarding policy and CARAS’ confidentiality, safeguarding, health & safety, equal opportunities, data management, online communications and all other policies as relevant.
Requirements:
Essential
· To be 18 years or older;
· To be non-judgemental and able to engage with people from diverse cultural backgrounds;
· To be reliable and punctual;
· Excellent communication skills, especially with people with varying levels of English;
· The ability to volunteer on Monday evenings for a minimum of four months;
· Currently resident in the UK;
- A love of football, and wanting to encourage others to play.
· Able to provide five years’ worth of addresses, and willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check (residency is not necessary if you are a Caras community member who is more recently arrived in the UK);
· Able to attend compulsory volunteer induction training (online) general and safeguarding prior to start of role
Desirable
· Knowledge of community languages, such as (including Arabic, Tigrinya, Amharic, Pashto, Dari, Farsi, Kurdish, Somali and Spanish).
Through volunteering with us you will:
· Meet new members of your local community;

Volunteering in the shop
Our Totnes Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.
It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

We've recently reopened our Islington Shop with a gorgeous new look inspired by the neighbouring film studios. In amongst the retro cinema seats and beautiful backstage velvet curtains you'll find unique vintage treasures and lovingly curated donated stock, hand picked by our brilliant volunteer team.

The Diana Award are thrilled to invite you to volunteer for our Mentoring Programme in Spring 2026, which operates across London.
We collaborate with volunteer mentors to support young people aged 14-18 who are at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) through mentoring interventions, career skills development programmes, and support with their youth-led social action projects.
WHO CAN VOLUNTEER AS A MENTOR?
We welcome applicants of all industries and levels of experience. Through mentoring you will gain skills in communication and leadership, building empathy and understanding of issues and barriers facing young people in their communities.
OUR MENTORING PROGRAMMES
We will be running our exciting Twelve-week Mentoring Programme from March - July 2026, across London, in the boroughs of Enfield, Hounslow, Southwark, Redbridge, and Sutton.
The programme will involve:

Twelve weeks of in-person weekly mentoring sessions that last one hour (excluding travel) and are delivered on the same day and time each week.
-
Group mentoring, where a group of volunteer mentors work together to support a group of mentees, with the help of a Diana Award Facilitator.
-
Volunteer mentors will share advice and guidance with young people who are at risk of becoming NEET.
We will train you to mentor and provide ongoing support for the duration of your programme.
The Diana Award can provide you with a professional reference, paid for DBS check, and refund your travel expenses in exchange for your voluntary work.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Requirements

A minimum of 18-years-old.

Willing to complete a DBS Check (paid for by The Diana Award).

Willing to provide contact details for two referees.

Has the right to work and volunteer in the UK.

Able to attend a three-hour in-person mentor training session.

Able to commit to weekly face-to-face sessions.

Lives or works in London.
Skills
-
Passion for working with young people.

Has developed or willing to develop active listening skills.

Ability to see solutions and opportunities when working with people or in a group setting.

Ability to show resilience when faced with challenging situations or behaviours.
Experience / Knowledge

Responsibilities
-
Commit to weekly sessions for twelve weeks, demonstrating consistency and punctuality. Mentoring Programme sessions last 60 to 90 minutes (excluding travel time). Follow through is key when working with young people at risk of becoming NEET.

Collaborate with a Diana Award Facilitator and other volunteer mentors to deliver and support group mentoring sessions within a school setting.
-
Review session plans and prepare for weekly sessions. Communicate weekly and in a timely manner with other volunteer mentors and a Diana Award Facilitator.
-
Create a safe and positive learning environment and provide young people with encouragement, guidance, and constructive feedback.
-
Nurture positive relationships with young people. Listen, understand, and acknowledge their feelings and experiences.
-
Support young people to plan a social action project.
-
Foster a growth mindset and encourage young people to challenge themselves to work towards their goals.
-
Support young people’s professional development by connecting them with further opportunities. For example, workplace visits, work experience, resources, relevant networks etc.
-
Identify and report any safeguarding and child protection concerns or disclosures to the Designated Safeguarding Lead, as per The Diana Award Safeguarding Policy.
