Café VI is an inclusive and accessible space, in line with RNIB Scotland’s mission to support people with sight loss and promote a sense of community in everyday life. The café aims to provide a welcoming environment for the local community and to help raise awareness of sight loss through its design and operation.

The café is staffed by a team of dedicated volunteers, including both sighted and partially sighted individuals, working together to deliver friendly service and foster inclusion. We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to assist in the running of the café and drop in centre for blind and partially sighted people. We require help in the kitchen, preparing food, cleaning and waiting on tables and assisting community members by chatting with them, sighted guiding and assisting members to take part in activities.

A passion for cooking is desirable but not essential. Experience in cash handling and how to use a cash register would be advantageous. Our aim is to move to a contactless process but we're not at that point yet.

The café is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11am until 3pm.

About the role:

As an Ice-Skating Support Volunteer, you’ll be joining our Sense Active team, supporting Sense’s Activity Facilitator, alongside another volunteer, with the delivery of weekly ice-skating sessions for disabled people with complex needs and their carers. With over 25 years’ experience, our facilitators deliver safe, enjoyable and inclusive ice-skating sessions. You’ll play an important part in supporting disabled participants and carers to develop their independence and confidence, socialise with others, and have a thrilling experience!

A DBS check will be needed due to the setting and the likelihood of regular contact with people we support. Don’t worry, we’ll guide you through this process.

Key responsibilities:

You’ll spend time supporting a range of activities, including:

· Standing and moving on the ice for extended periods of time (up to 3 hours).

· Supporting participants on the ice (physical and instructional support).

· Helping participants with collection and return of skates.

· Supporting carers to become more confident on the ice.

· Maintaining relationships with attendees and carers by taking the time to socialise and build rapport.

· Supporting the set-up and closing of activities.

· Exposure to cold temperatures and slippery surfaces.

Skills and qualities:

This role would suit you if you’re:

· A confident ice-skater able to skate at good level.

· Comfortable wearing ice skates and engaging in physical activity.

· Experienced in working with disabled people is desirable but not essential.

· Someone with a positive attitude and will enjoy the opportunity to learn more about working with disabled people.

· Patient, caring, positive and have good interpersonal skills

· Able to work as part of a team and take instruction from others.

· Passionate about Sense’s work to support disabled people.

· Calm, kind and have a friendly personality.

We are launching three core projects - Monthly Coffee Mornings, Digital Inclusion and Skills, and Wellbeing Wednesdays and we need dedicated Community Connectors to make sure the most isolated people know about and feel safe attending them.

This pivotal, person-led role is the heart of our mission. You will be the friendly, consistent link that helps individuals overcome the initial barriers of anxiety and inertia to re-engage with their community and find their place in SUNSHINE's programmes.

In this Compassionate Voluntary Role, You Will:

• Provide a Warm Link: Serve as a consistent, friendly contact for isolated individuals identified through local referrals (e.g., from GPs, libraries, or other agencies).

• Offer Support and Encouragement: Build trust and offer non-judgmental support to help individuals identify their own goals and interests (a strengths-based approach).

• Facilitate Connection: Gently introduce and signpost individuals to either a SUNSHINE programme (Coffee Morning, Digital Inclusion and Skills, Wellbeing Wednesdays) or to another suitable, trusted group or resource within the local community.

• Maintain Consistency: Follow up with individuals briefly (via phone or simple check-in) after they attend a programme for the first time, ensuring they felt welcomed and encouraging them to return.

• Adhere to Safety: Work strictly within SUNSHINE’s safeguarding and data protection guidelines, reporting all concerns to the Volunteer Coordinator or Designated Safeguarding Lead.

• Local Knowledge: A strong familiarity with your London Borough/Area and its community groups, public spaces, and resources.

Through leading a team of Volunteer leaders, you will drive excellence in delivery, develop an inclusive and diverse volunteering experience for new and current volunteers, and help navigate through change to build a bigger and better St John Ambulance.

Trustees play a vital role in ensuring Middlewich and District Foodbank meets its core purpose by overseeing the management and administration of the charity and ensuring that the foodbank has a clear strategy in line with our vision and goals.

What will you be doing?

As a trustee you will share collective responsibility for the governance of the food bank and all decisions made by the board, ensuring the organisation is well run, fulfils its mission, is compliant with charity law and that the charity is open and accountable. It is also the responsibility of the treasurer to work in partnership with the chairperson and other trustees to ensure the financial viability and development of the organisation.

Key tasks

Trustee (Fundraising & Grants Lead) responsibilities:

• to work alongside the Finance Committee, treasurer and the rest of the board to plan what level of funds are required to be generated to ensure the effective running of the charity
• to work alongside the trustee board to ensure that all grants are sought and written with the purpose of meeting the charity’s vision and objectives
• to lead on the organisation of fundraising opportunities to support the running of the charity, with a specific focus on engaging with business and corporate partners
• to lead on incorporating national Trussell fundraising campaigns/events into the food bank’s fundraising calendar
• to oversee, with operational management support, the writing of high-quality grant applications that are in line with the charity’s vision and objectives
• to regularly communicate to the rest of the trustee board via trustee meetings or any other communication, any relevant information and/or developments regarding fund raising or grant applications.

Other responsibilities, along with the board of trustees, include:

• to approve, support and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals and objectives.
• to manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk, and not over-commit the charity.
• to ensure that key risks are identified, monitored, and controlled appropriately.
• to ensure appropriate financial plans are in place, budgets are monitored, and progress is evaluated.
• to review and approve financial statements.
• to ensure the charity has appropriate procedures to comply with current legislation and good practice, including employment, health and safety, equity, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding and GDPR compliance/data protection.
• to prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.

We are looking for people who want to help their local community and work towards the eradication of food poverty. Our ideal candidates would demonstrate:

• an understanding of, and commitment to, the work of the Middlewich & District Foodbank
• a knowledge of, and passion for, fundraising and grant application writing
• an ability to lead on any fundraising and grants matters in a supportive and confident manner
• experience of liaising with business and corporate partners and the development of fundraising relationships
• excellent communication and collaboration skills

• willingness to actively participate in discussions concerning needs of the foodbank’s beneficiaries, staff, and the trustee board
