This is a befriending role to visit a 75-year-old die hard Watford FC fan in Borehamwood. He is looking for a man to join him at home for a cup of tea, to watch Final Score with him, and in time perhaps take him in his wheelchair to feed the ducks nearby or to Church on a Sunday.
His mobility and verbal communication are limited, so patience and a loud, clear voice are key. It may take some time to get to know one another, but soon enough you’ll find you can get an enthusiastic thumbs up for football talk and maybe even a cheeky grin if you make an impressive joke!
We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.
This will start as a Stop and Stay visit role, meaning that the person you’ll be visiting might have some verbal communication skills or they use sounds and/or facial/body expressions to communicate with you. The person you visit might choose to take part in simple activities or watch you doing the activities. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tend to be around half an hour to an hour long.
In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like:
- Sitting and having a chat
- Checking in on their well- being
- A craft activity at home
- Reading a book/magazine together

Volunteering in the shop
The Nicolson Street shop is a modern, contemporary and urban street store, unlike any other charity shop you've ever seen - full of vintage treasures, gorgeous greenery and creativity!
Our Nicolson Street Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.
It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Read Easy provides free, confidential, one to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, through a network of volunteer groups. Read Easy groups are changing the lives of individual adults across the country by providing them with the support they need to learn to read, and in turn opening doors for them to all sorts of new opportunities in life. As the Team Leader you are responsible for the proper and effective direction of your local group. This role will appeal to someone with enthusiasm and energy who will enjoy managing a team of diverse volunteers. Ideally, the Team Leader will remain in this role for at least two years.
How we will support you
You will be provided with the Management Team Handbook, training/induction, policies, and guidance specifically needed for this role, including access to support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser, via your Team Leader. You will also be invited to Read Easy UK’s regional forums and annual conference which gives volunteers an opportunity for networking with those from other groups.

Role Description:
The Partnerships Support Volunteer will assist the Partnership lead in coordinating, managing, and expanding Wekume’s partnerships with local and international organizations, companies, institutions, and individuals. As a Till & Customer Service Volunteer at our Whitchurch shop, you will assist our shop managers by serving and greeting customers and keeping the shop organised.
Our Whitchurch shop is located in a lovely village setting, with many local and returning customers. Whitchurch village is a charity shop hotspot, meaning there is lots of competition.
The staff and volunteers ensure the stock is merchandised beautifully and priced competitively to keep the customer coming back.
The team have hosted many a film crew including for 'Hayley goes...' who visited the shop to understand how shopping at charity shops is environmentally responsible.
The shop is open 9am-5:15pm Monday-Saturday and we appreciate any time you can spare.
Our shops generate funds that directly support the whole family, from therapeutic services for children, to emotional and practical care for families, to sibling support activities & experiences.

This role will be supporting two lovely gentlemen living in Twickenham who would love a visitor to spend some time with them. They both enjoy exploring their local high street charity shops and going for a drink and a sausage roll in Greggs. When at home, one man enjoys relaxing in front of the telly and the other enjoys listening to his record and cassette collection.
Living in the same home, we’d ideally like one volunteer to visit both gentlemen. For one of the men, their speech might take some patience to understand, and the other prefers to communicate with gestures and pictures, so a friendly and understanding approach is key. It would be up to you whether you do both visits on the same day or on alternate months.
Access to a car would be a great addition but is not essential for this role as the house is very near to both bus and train routes.

Art Explora is a non-profit arts organisation that aims to share arts and culture with everyone - locally, nationally and internationally - and inspire new encounters between arts and audiences.
Arts at Home supports older people to access arts and culture by encouraging conversation and connection through art. Due to the nature of the role, we are looking for volunteers who can contribute 1 half day per week, and as explained below, there are safeguarding checks to complete before you can start.
Key Tasks and Main Duties
Operational support tasks:

Who are you?
We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. You don’t need to have volunteered or worked in the sector before as full training will be provided. What’s important to us is that you are a team player, open to learning and willing to follow RSBC’s policies and can be an excellent ambassador for RSBC. We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of sight problems.

Safeguarding:
Due to the nature of the role, before you can begin volunteering with RSBC there are some required safeguarding checks which will need to be completed.
All RSBC volunteers undergo an Enhanced DBS check (paid for by RSBC) and must provide two references.
All volunteers will also be booked onto safeguarding training.
RSBC risk assesses all its services and activities.

Role Summary:
We’re looking for enthusiastic and friendly volunteers to join our event support team. As a volunteer, you’ll play a key part in creating an enjoyable and memorable experience for our guests. Tasks may include welcoming and directing attendees, assisting with registration and seating, supporting activity areas (such as the casino, photo booth, or auctions), and providing general help throughout the evening.
Key Responsibilities
Welcome guests on arrival with a friendly and professional approach.
Guide guests to seating, activity areas, restrooms, bars and exits as needed.
Support themed event zones (e.g., casino tables, photo booth, raffle/auction areas)
Provide general event information and answer basic guest queries.
Monitor assigned areas to ensure safety, comfort and smooth guest flow.
Communicate any issues or questions promptly to the event manager or supervisor.
Help with the setup and reset of materials, signage, and activity stations where required.
Encourage guest participation in fundraising, raffles or competitions.
Maintain a professional, approachable, and positive attitude throughout the event.

Training requirements:
As a Annual Ball Volunteer you will complete the following training:
- Teesside Hospice mandatory training
- Volunteer induction training
- Any other training identified as appropriate to the role

Your first line of support and for any enquiries will be Tilly Roberts to support you in your role.
Communications:
Tilly Roberts (Events and Community Manager) will regularly provide you with any information updates, training opportunities and upcoming events appropriate to your role.

At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We are a charity, and our fundraising is vital to enable us to continue providing care and support to the children: it costs around £13 million a year to run our care services.
What's involved?
The purpose of the event is to raise awareness for Acorns and gather contact information or sign-ups from individuals interested in our fundraising events; volunteers will assist at the stand as representatives of Acorns, help manage on-the-day activities such as games and competitions, collect donations, and may also take part as Alex the Acorn mascot or chaperone. While food and parking are not provided, water will be available, and volunteers will have free access to the Running Show before or after their allocated shift (RRP £15/day).
How much time will it take?
8:30am – 5pm
We would like to split each day into two shifts, with 2 volunteers on each shift.
Shift 1: 8.30am – 12:30pm
Shift 2: 12.30pm – 5pm
Alex & Chaperone’s hours will be 9am – 4pm
