About the Role
The Safeguarding Officer plays a central role in maintaining high safeguarding standards across all Make A Smile Chapters. You will also lead on maintaining and updating our safeguarding policies, liaising with relevant organisations to ensure they remain comprehensive, compliant, and aligned with current legislation. A key part of the role involves supporting local officers to ensure all volunteers have an up‑to‑date DBS check before attending events.
As the charity’s central point of safeguarding expertise, you will provide guidance on concerns, advise on escalation routes, and help embed a strong safeguarding culture throughout the organisation.

• Assist with session set-up, delivery support, and pack-down across community venues.
• Encourage participants to take part at their own pace and adapt activities where appropriate.

• Work alongside Foundation staff and other volunteers to support smooth session delivery.
• Share relevant feedback or observations with the Project Coordinator when required.

QUALIFICATIONS & ROLE REQUIREMENTS
• Volunteers supporting the practical delivery of physical activity sessions may be required to hold a minimum Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification (or an equivalent accredited coaching or fitness qualification).
• Volunteers supporting sessions in a non-delivery or administrative capacity are not required to hold this qualification and will be supervised by qualified Foundation staff.
• All volunteers must be willing to complete required training and follow Foundation policies and procedures.

You’ll be an essential part of the team, welcoming clients and visitors to the hub. You’ll be providing information and key admin support that enables people to get the help they need with their housing. As well as gathering feedback from clients on their experience of our service.

Food banks provide essential community services to people in crisis. At Brent Foodbank, our warehouse volunteers play a vital role in ensuring our distribution centres can provide food parcels to people in our community who are struggling to afford the essentials. By volunteering at our warehouse, you will help process food donations, sort items (ensuring they are in date), minimise wastage and pack food ready for distribution. Ensure that all Brent Foodbank warehousing procedures and processes are followed as per the foodbank operating manual. Receive food donations from members of the public and thank them. Ensure that incoming stock is checked, weighed and recorded. Sort food by date and type, removing any items that are damaged or outof-date and weighing these out separately. Keep warehouse area clean and tidy at all times. Prepare stock orders for the food bank centres and/or emergency food boxes, as appropriate. Assist in undertaking an annual stock take as detailed in the food bank operating manual. Report any health & safety or safeguarding concerns to the Foodbank and Warehouse Manager. A picture is worth 1,000 words so ensuring that attractive photographs are taken to boost eBay sales.
Writing detailed and accurate descriptions of items.
Responding in a timely and professional manner to any enquiries received from potential buyers.
Monitoring our eBay listings and account to keep them up to date.
Packaging items appropriately before taking them to the local post office and posting to the buyer. Parcels are small to medium sized.

What we are looking for in a volunteer eCommerce Assistant
Ideally, you would have experience in selling items on eBay or other online selling sites.
Can create attractive and accurate listings for a wide variety of items.
IT literacy and ability to use our laptop is required, as is the ability to use a mobile phone (provided) to take and upload clear photographs.
Capable of researching the origin and value of items using a variety of sources.
Reliability and an ongoing commitment are required. Someone who can offer approximately 2 hours on their chosen day(s). The shops are open Mon-Sat, between 9.30am-5pm and the role can be carried out at any time during opening hours. We are happy to divide the role between several volunteers.
Capable of working with minimal supervision, once fully trained.
