Through volunteering as a Community Volunteer, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time.
Once we have completed your selection and screening for this role, we will provide you with an induction, as well as invite you to any necessary training sessions. Prospective volunteers will be expected to undertake the full training package for a Community Volunteer, enabling them to support the Community message. Do you want to help people experiencing the housing emergency?
Information about the role
You’ll be an essential part of the team, welcoming clients and visitors to the hub. You’ll be providing information and key admin support that enables people to get the help they need with their housing. As well as gathering feedback from clients on their experience of our service.
Location: London Hub, 88 Old Street, London
Suggested contribution: One day per week (can be flexible around your commitments)
Availability: Volunteering will take place at a time that suits you, within Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm

Main activities may include:
Covering reception duties and being the first point of contact for the hub.
Booking in clients for appointments with our advisors.
Responding to general enquiries both in person and over the phone.
Triaging clients both in person and over the phone
Signposting people to other appropriate services.
General administrative tasks (such as photocopying, scanning, data entry, filing)
Phoning clients around 8-10 weeks after they accessed our services.
Asking clients set questions to gather information on their experiences with Shelter and the difference it has made to them.
Recording the phone calls and the responses given onto our client database (CRM).
This role fights the housing emergency by enabling people who are struggling with housing or homelessness to get the advice and support they need.

Supporting you
You will be provided with an induction into your role, access to relevant learning and a copy of our volunteer handbook.
The role, including learning and communications, are flexible, so can be tailored so they best suit your needs and preferences.
You will be able to claim reasonable volunteering expenses in line with Shelter’s volunteer expenses policy. Where financial circumstances would be a barrier to volunteering, we may be able to offer these funds in advance.
You will be able to access our volunteer support package, including our colleague assistance programme and Shelter’s network of mental health first aiders.

We are looking for people to help lead some our teams across the organisation. We are volunteer led and manage 65+ volunteers across the country, most of them remoately. There are 10 different teams ranging from creative to business development. We are looking for up to 10 people to help with the coordination of feedback, delegation of tasks and assisting with running monthly meetings. We have a very diverse team of volunteers from all different culture, religons and disabilities.

Principle Function: To aid the team in managing people’s storage in the service.

Description: The role of Unit Volunteer will be to support the Referrals and Storage Coordinator in the running of the drop in service, including the following:
Storing and retrieving luggage, including tagging people's luggage when they first come in and recording taken and added folder.
Support the service’s efforts to maintain a clean and organised space for people who use the service and staff alike.
Ensure that all individuals are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Skills and/or qualifications and experience required:
Ability to recognise and respond calmly to tense or escalating situations, using effective de-escalation techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone.
Passion for the service and empathy for those who use it
Previous sector volunteering is desirable but not required
Training required and support offered:
Street Storage induction and training (including information provided on the history and mission of the charity/the service we provide/aims/objectives
You will receive support throughout your volunteering with the service.
We will aim to provide group Ian Bourne Aggressive Behaviour Training to develop skills working with and for a vulnerable client group
Volunteer supervisions every two months.
Please provide one reference, preferably from a previous professional or voluntary role.

As a maintenance (handyman) volunteer at SeeAbility, you will support the facility in maintaining a safe, functional, and pleasant environment for people we support and our teams.
This position requires a reliable, skilled, and proactive individual who can carry out general maintenance tasks and assist with small repairs around the property. Your efforts will directly contribute to the well-being of the people we support and ensure that the home remains a comfortable and secure place for all.
Skills Required
Perform general maintenance and minor repairs to the building and facilities, including but not limited to: carpentry, painting, decorating and repairing
Assist with the installation of furniture, fixtures, or equipment, ensuring they meet safety standards.
Ensure that all tools and materials are properly maintained and stored safely.
Help identify potential maintenance issues before they become problems.
Report more complex repairs or safety concerns to the Facility Manager or Maintenance Supervisor.
Support the care home during renovation or redecoration projects.
Work collaboratively with other volunteers and staff to ensure the upkeep of the home.

Tell My Truth and Shame the Devil C.I.C. is a survivor-led social enterprise dedicated to uncovering hidden truths about the world, exposing childhood sexual abuse and systemic illusions, and fostering conscious, humble, and empowered individuals. Our mission is to create a book club that educates, challenges, and awakens members to understand the “matrix” of society, the New World Order, and the realities often hidden by mainstream narratives.
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Book Club Manager / Community Lead to develop, run, and expand our book club. This role requires someone passionate about knowledge-sharing, community-building, and guiding members through thought-provoking books and discussions that challenge conventional thinking.
The position is volunteer, with opportunities to transition into a paid role as the organization expands.

Experience Qualification and Requirements
Experience running or managing book clubs, discussion groups, or community programs is a plus, but passionate and motivated individuals are encouraged to apply.
Strong organizational and event management skills.
Excellent communication and facilitation skills for leading discussions.
Knowledge of tools and platforms for virtual book clubs (Zoom, Discord, social media, event management platforms, etc.).
Ability to research, source, and recommend books that challenge mainstream narratives and promote critical thinking.
Passion for personal growth, education, and community development.
Ability to engage members aged 16–35 and foster a welcoming and intellectually stimulating environment.Main Responsibilities/ Key Duties
Develop and establish the structure of the book club, including mission, themes, and long-term goals.
Schedule and organize regular book club sessions, both online and offline.
Manage and moderate discussions to ensure engaging, respectful, and thought-provoking conversations.
Source, curate, and recommend books aligned with the club’s mission of awakening, education, and self-reflection.
Create and host events such as webinars, author talks, workshops, or live discussions.
Promote the book club through social media, community networks, and other channels to grow membership.
Develop systems and processes to streamline operations, track member engagement, and improve overall club experience.
Mentor and guide members on critical thinking, awareness, and personal growth.
Additional Notes
This role is not suitable if you:
Prefer low-responsibility volunteer work
Avoid handling sensitive data or detailed reporting
Are seeking immediate paid employment
Are uncomfortable applying analysis to strategic decisions
Important to be clear:
This is a volunteer role during the CIC’s build phase
It carries real responsibility for data integrity and donor relations
Formal qualifications are not required, but desirable.
Essential equivalent experience mandatory.
