Through grassroots initiatives, advocacy, and partnerships, the Obuyisibwomu Initiative aims to uplift marginalized groups—particularly women, youth, and children—while fostering long-term, sustainable change.

Obuyisi bw’omu Initiative addresses critical challenges faced by underserved communities in Uganda. These include limited access to mental health support, poor water sanitation and hygiene practices, barriers to quality education, and the escalating effects of climate change.

Mental Health: Stigma, lack of awareness, and limited access to mental health services leave many—especially youth—without the support they need for emotional well-being.

• Social Media Strategy & Management Develop and execute multi-platform social media strategies aligned with campaign and organizational goals. About the role

We are a charity providing loving, compassionate care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia. We provide care in our Homes and have also developed services to support people in their own homes.

We are looking for really special individuals to join us as Telephone Friends for our new Telephone Friendship Service. This free service will reach out to veterans and their partners in the community via telephone, offering support and a friendly voice to someone who might be feeling lonely or isolated. We provide full training and support to encourage you on your journey.

We are looking for people who are caring, who always put others first and who show compassion and respect at all times. You will have a passion for embracing life and making it meaningful for yourself and those you support.

Time commitment: Minimum of 1 hour per week. There is no time limit on the length of service, but Telephone Friends are asked to make a commitment for a minimum of 12 months.

Information and Advice Service: The Information and Advice service for older people provides a free, confidential, and independent service for anyone aged 65+ living in Bromley and 50 + in Greenwich. Role Summary: Provide information and signposting to older people living in Bromley and Greenwich and provide admin support to the Information and Advice Team, helping to keep the information resources up to date.

What will I be involved in?

• Answering calls and basic enquiries coming into our Information and Advice Service, full training is provided. Present and discuss information with the client in an accessible manner.
• Committed to researching and providing up to date information to vulnerable older people using the internet and other resources.
• Identify and research information relevant to the user’s situation, drawing on resources available.
• Being online and knowledgeable of Microsoft packages and the use of emails
• Liase closely with the Advice Case Supervisor, other advisors, and wider staff team. Seeking guidance and support where required.

In the challenging times following a terminal diagnosis or the death of a loved one, the Hospice has a range of support available. The Man Shed provides an alternative to formal support, enabling ‘Shedders’ to spend time with others in similar situations while engaging in a purposeful activity, learning new skills and enjoying friendship and support along the way. The primary aim of the Man Shed is to be a place to talk with others about anything and everything. Volunteers also help ‘Shedders’ to plan and safely work on their DIY projects, and make sure sessions run smoothly. 

We’re looking for Man Shed Session Leader Volunteers for all sessions but especially Mondays and Thursdays. This is a weekly commitment of 6 hours per week, you will commit to 2 sessions on 1 day per week. Sessions take place from 10.30am-12.30pm and 1.30-3.30pm, with some time required to set up and leave the workshop tidy afterwards.

You’ll enjoy helping and teaching other users, be comfortable supervising the safe use of equipment, and offer a listening ear to the attendees.

Full training and support will be provided. You must be able to attend equipment training day.

JOB SUMMARY: 

Join our team as a Volunteer Events & Community Fundraising Officer, working alongside the Fundraising Manager to develop and expand our community engagement and events portfolio. Play a pivotal role in creating innovative fundraising products, fostering relationships within our local communities, and supporting key fundraising initiatives to drive income growth and supporter engagement. 

ROLE & RESPONSBILITIES  

• Collaborate with the Fundraising Manager to design and implement community and events strategies, including the development of new fundraising products and campaigns. 

• Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with local schools, community groups, corporate partners, and individual fundraisers to generate new income streams.

Experience:

• Proven experience working in supporter-focused environments. 

• Solid project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously. 

• Experience working within high-performing teams, including remote working arrangements.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your counselling and therapy skills within an organisation which is person-centred and fiercely trauma-informed

What the role involves

This role may vary depending on needs, but is likely to include:

• Working with individual team members, as needs arise, over and above their clinical supervision. The team member may be experts in health and social care, domestic violence, mental health issues, or any of our other services
• Undertake an assessment session, followed by time-limited counselling with an integrative approach based on humanistic values (via Zoom or phone) to our staff, offering each up to 6 sessions
• Maintain succinct, relevant session notes and store these securely
• Maintaining client confidentiality, upholding data protection and equal opportunities principle
• Attend your own monthly supervision in line with your professional body’s code of ethics, to ensure safe working practices
• Completing paperwork for a DBS check with Hopscotch

What you need for this role

Essential

• Be a member - including student membership - of one of the recognised organisations (see below)
• Level 4 Diploma qualification as a minimum (or be studying towards one)
• Certificate in online counselling such as How to Do Counselling Online by Open University & BACP
• Minimum of 100 hours of supervised counselling hours
• Evidence of professional indemnity insurance and clinical supervision

• Willing and able to provide counselling via Zoom from a private location with a stable WiFi connection

Position Overview:
The Bid Writer Assistant plays a key role in researching, drafting, and editing compelling proposals and funding applications for various projects run by Quilombo UK. The role involves close collaboration with department leads, collecting relevant data, and ensuring submissions align with organisational goals and funder expectations. It offers the flexibility to work independently, with the support of experienced professionals and tailored training where required.

Key Responsibilities:

Proposal & Bid Development:

• Research, draft, and edit funding proposals tailored to specific grants, donors, and partners.

• Review and refine existing proposals to ensure clarity, compliance, and impact.

• Collaborate with internal teams to gather relevant content, project insights, and financial information for bids.

• Develop supporting documents and presentations to accompany applications.

Strategic Input & Collaboration:

• Contribute to the bid strategy, suggesting creative and relevant ideas aligned with organisational goals.

• Maintain and manage a structured “bid plan” with timelines, approval processes, and submission deadlines.

• Liaise with HR, Finance, Marketing, and Project teams to align bid content with current projects and strategic direction.

Reporting & Organisation:

• Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of bid statuses.

• Organise bid-related documentation, supporting strong internal knowledge management.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in English, Communications, Business, or related fields.

Experience:

• Prior experience writing funding proposals or grant applications.

• Familiarity with fundraising, community initiatives, or nonprofit funding is desirable.

Skills:

• Strong written communication and persuasive writing skills.

• High attention to detail, organisation, and ability to meet tight deadlines.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word; Excel knowledge is a plus.

• Confidence in researching, planning, and collaborating across teams.

About the Pen Pal Project

The Pen Pal Project empowers children aged 7–16 to become confident communicators by engaging them in creative, meaningful letter writing. UK pupils are matched with peers in Nigeria and other Sub-Saharan African countries to exchange letters over six structured sessions throughout the academic year.

The project supports pupils in:

• Developing core literacy skills (reading, writing, sentence structure, vocabulary)

• Strengthening confidence, empathy, and communication through storytelling

• Learning about different cultures, family structures, traditions, and daily life in another part of the world

• Practising both written and spoken English in an encouraging, low-pressure environment

Each school cohort follows a themed session plan exploring topics such as identity, youth culture, food, heritage, health, and hobbies.

Sessions are delivered by trained volunteers, with support from teachers and UK Reads staff.

Role Overview

As a Writing Session Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in supporting literacy, creativity, and inclusion in schools. You’ll work directly with students to help them explore personal expression, read incoming pen pal letters, and craft thoughtful responses.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about education, communication, cultural exchange, and making a difference at a grassroots level.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate six themed writing sessions at a primary or secondary school in London (sessions take place during school hours)

• Create an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere where all students feel safe to write and express themselves

• Support pupils with varied literacy levels, including those with special educational needs (SEND), English as an additional language (EAL), or lower confidence in reading/writing

• Guide pupils in reading and responding to letters received from international pen pals

• Encourage vocabulary development, sentence structure, and narrative skills using the provided facilitator resources

• Use creativity and cultural awareness to promote engagement and curiosity

• Complete light administrative tasks (~1 hour per session), including:

  • Reviewing students’ letters for safeguarding

  • Submitting short post-session reflections or feedback forms

• Attend a short online training session and stay in communication with the UK Reads team

Time Commitment

• Approx. 6-8 hours/month over the academic year

• Each session includes:

  • ~1 hour in-school delivery time

  • ~1 hour admin/reflection time

• Plus training, planning, and communication time as needed

• Sessions are typically spaced two per academic term (six total)

Volunteers are matched with one school and are expected to complete the full six-session cycle to ensure continuity and build rapport with pupils.

Detailed description

You could be part of our exciting pilot project as a volunteer Parish Nurse offering life-transforming whole-person healthcare, working alongside Chaplains, Complex Needs and Housing Support Workers.

 As a YMCA Parish Nurse you would:

• Help service users identify issues and self-manage their wellbeing so they flourish in body, mind and spirit. This might be 1:2:1 or in a group setting.
• Signpost, support, and provide information and reassurance enabling service users to access NHS and other professional or community support as well as internal support from YMCA colleagues and projects.
• Offer spiritual care from a Christian perspective, such as prayer or acts of worship
• Be instrumental in supporting the project develop in this pilot phase

Training for this role is provided by PNMUK as part of their on-going programme of support and personal development for Parish Nursing nationally. The next course is 15-17th November with follow-up online sessions.

This project is being developed and lead by One YMCA’s Chaplaincy Team, together with our Medium Complex Intensive Support Service (MCISS) and supported by Parish Nursing Ministries UK (PNMUK).
