You will be from a grant funding background within private, public or charitable sector. You will have an understanding of nature conservation grounded by strong grant writing experience. We would expect an understanding of how grant funding works and the application process and that you are comfortable with working to strict deadlines. You will be a great communicator, with a personable style who can work with many different people across the wonderful variety of geography, business development, and activities of the Wildlife Trust.

Are you looking to make a meaningful contribution to nature’s recovery in Wiltshire through a diverse portfolio of projects including farmer engagement and land advice, ecology and natural capital?
Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is committed to driving forward nature’s recovery on a landscape scale and we are looking for a committed and innovative Head of Nature Recovery – Maternity Cover (secondments welcome) to continue to drive forward the development of this work. This is a key role for our Trust, in which you’ll use your expertise and knowledge to continue our efforts to drive meaningful change for nature, further developing our work via our innovative collaborations, pioneering natural capital markets, meaningful farmer engagement and nature-based project demonstration.
You’ll be leading a small but dynamic team involved with a wide range of projects, including the groundbreaking Bristol Avon Catchment Market, NEIRF, a developing land advice service and support for farmers with private finance opportunities and delivery of a range of specialist ecological services including species recovery projects. This role requires someone who is self-motivated and energised, able to lead and empower staff.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Support the development of existing projects within the team including natural capital markets, farmer engagement and species recovery projects.
- Lead on the development of our first ‘farmer learning and engagement hub’ site, developing a vision and business plan for the farm alongside the team and the Director of Nature Recovery.
- Identify opportunities to enhance our current offerings for specialist ecological services, natural capital and land advice.
- Manage project finances, including budgets, grant claims and funding applications, ensuring financial accountability.
- Line manage a small but dynamic team to oversee necessary aspects of project planning and implementation.
- Maintain and develop partnerships with landholders, farmers, statutory agencies and other stakeholders.
- Work across Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s Nature Recovery directorate*, contributing expertise and experience to aid the delivery of meaningful impact on the ground.
*Our Nature Recovery Directorate include the Nature Recovery team, the Water Team and our in-house Wiltshire and Swindon Biological Records Centre.
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for an enterprising and positive-thinking Head of Nature Recovery (Maternity Cover), with the commercial aptitude to secure income alongside impact. This is an exciting opportunity to drive forward the development of our land advisory service and natural capital projects, leading our engagement with farmers and landholders across the county as well as delivery of nature-based solutions on the ground. We are therefore keen to hear from candidates with experience and skills in ecology, land advice and land management, nature recovery and/or natural capital.
You’ll be self-motivated and adaptable with exceptional communication and organisation skills. We’re keen to hear from candidates who feel passionate about driving forward new and innovative ways to deliver meaningful impact for nature recovery at scale across Wiltshire.

- Support the Corporate Partnership team by participating in regular events, work parties, walks, and talks.

Overview
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust UK is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to manage our online shop. This hands-on role is vital in supporting our mission to protect wildlife and habitats in Kenya. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the online store, ensuring a seamless and engaging shopping experience for our supporters.
This is a part-time role at 0.4 FTE (15 hours per week), offer a pro rata salary of £28,000 - £30,000 based on experience.
Key Responsibilities to include:
Online Store Management
- Handle the day-to-day operations of the online shop including ensuring efficient order processing, stock management, quality control of incoming stock, processing customer returns, helping the team with packing orders during busy periods, and ensuring consistently high levels of customer service.
- Plan for the busy Christmas period by assessing workload and engaging the assistance of temporary staff, volunteers and the wider team as necessary.
- Conduct periodic stocktakes to ensure accuracy and reduce shrinkage, identifying any errors and training issues.
- Recommend to the Executive Director any updates to the online store's website to ensure it is user-friendly, visually appealing, and regularly refreshed with new products and promotions.
- Work closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement strategies to drive website traffic and sales.
Product Development and Sourcing
- Identify and recommend new products that will align with the SWT's mission, appeal to supporters and offer a minimum required ROI.
- Manage timely procurement of products and packing materials.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with suppliers.
- Create new product listings on Shopify including all relevant back-end product information.
- Write compelling descriptions for product listings, creating and adding appropriate imagery.
- Support Communications team in providing imagery and copy for featured products in monthly charity e-newsletter.
- Create visuals for shop adverts as requested by Executive Director.
- Review and update shop banners/landing page imagery seasonally to keep shop appearance fresh and inviting.
Volunteer Management
- Train and supervise volunteers in picking/packing, stocktaking and quality control.
- Assist in maintenance of the volunteer rota, organising volunteer support as needed based on tasks available, including forward planning for busy seasonal periods.
- Periodic review of output of volunteers to raise training issues where necessary to ensure standards are maintained.
Financial Management
- Manage the online shop budget, monitoring expenses and revenue to ensure financial targets are met.
- Work with the Director of Finance to propose the annual online shop budget for Board approval.
- Produce stock reports for the auditors and be the main point of contact for the annual audit of stock.
- Analyse sales data to identify trends and make informed decisions about product offerings and pricing strategies.
Customer Engagement
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing enquiries and resolving issues promptly and effectively.
- Review global shipping methods and suppliers; recommend to the Executive Director and implement changes to make delivery to customers as smooth as possible.
Reporting and Analysis
- Generate regular reports on sales performance, stock levels, and customer feedback.
- Use data insights to propose and implement improvements to the online shop's operations and customer experience.
- Working closely with the Director of Finance, provide reports and insights on the shop data for the Board.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or post-school qualification in Business, Marketing, or a related field.
- Proven experience in managing an online shop or e-commerce platform.
- Strong understanding of online retail best practices, including pricing, digital marketing, and customer service.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Passion for wildlife conservation and the mission of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust UK.
