Early Literacy Interventionist (Birmingham)

Chapter One is a fast-growing charity, with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills they need to thrive. We work to ensure that all children have 1:1 reading support at the time they need it most.

Our Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) programme (based on a model that serves 20,000 children successfully in the USA) provides daily, 1:1, 7 minute phonics sessions for children who are behind in phonics. Using a bespoke technology tool, a trained Early Literacy Interventionist works individually with target children. 

This ELI role, reporting to the Schools Development Manager, is a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop and grow their knowledge of phonics and/or their teaching skill set. It is ideal for someone with previous school experience who is looking for a new and exciting challenge.

You will conduct initial baseline assessments and then deliver differentiated, 1:1, targeted, 7 minute phonics sessions to pupils using a systematic, synthetic approach. Although you are employed by Chapter One, you will work closely with the school team to understand the progression of the school’s phonics teaching; establish tailored plans for each child and feedback on pupil progress. Using your knowledge and insight, you will also collaborate with colleagues at Chapter One to further improve the ELI model, the online tool and programme delivery.

What you’ll do 
As a Wellbeing Practitioner you will work in partnership with schools, children and families to assess and respond to the psychological needs of children experiencing social, emotional, mental health or behavioural difficulties through undertaking assessments and providing interventions. The post-holders will also: contribute to workshops, support to school staff in the identification of mental health needs of children and accessing appropriate resources; and actively contribute to outcome monitoring and service improvement. You will build relationships with peer/senior members of staff, service users, partners, other services, schools, commissioners, as well as other external agencies with families being the main point of contact. You will also deliver consultation, training, and workshop to non-mental health staff, such as teachers and social workers with other clinicians in the service.

What you’ll bring 
You will have a qualification in psychology or other discipline related to mental health to deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people.

Essential skills and experience:

• Experience of working therapeutically, implementing interventions and using routine outcome measures in therapy with children and you people in community or school settings including Looked After Children and young people;
• Experience of working cross-culturally as well as thinking about cultural issues in relation to clinical practice;
• Experience of maintaining appropriate records and have good awareness of confidentiality and current childcare and safeguarding legislation, policy and practice;
• Ability to form good working relationships in a multi-disciplinary setting and work independently where necessary;
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively about complex issues both verbally and in writing with different stakeholders;
• Ability to manage own workload and prioritise conflicting deadlines;
• Commitment to engage with and use clinical supervision and line management supervision.

The Learning and Skills Development Co-Ordinator will lead on developing a program of training, learning, volunteering and work experience for the residents of Homeless Oxfordshire that increase self esteem, engagement and motivation. LEAP is built on the foundation of strong, supportive relationships that empower residents to move towards stable, independent living. Through one-to-one key worker support, trauma-informed care, and community engagement, residents rebuild trust, form friendships, and gain confidence. Activities like gardening, arts and crafts, and creative writing foster connection and personal growth, while group involvement helps residents feel part of a wider community. LEAP also supports residents to take steps into peer mentoring, volunteering, and training, helping them build positive networks beyond their immediate circle and develop the skills and confidence to thrive independently.

At LEAP, community involvement is at the heart of their work. Empowering residents through co-production is a key organisational goal. Through a wide range of engaging and meaningful activities, residents will experience positive outcomes such as increased confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of inclusion. They will build supportive networks, learn key life skills and access training, volunteering, and employment opportunities. Many will gain qualifications and secure long-term accommodation. The project strengthens peer support and enables residents to shape services through formalised Residents’ Forums, ensuring their voices influence senior decision-making. For Homeless Oxfordshire, LEAP enhances our capacity to deliver peer-led support, builds staff knowledge, and informs service improvement. As the Group Senior HR Advisor, you will:

• Be responsible for a case management of ER cases as well as provide day to day advice to managers.
• Develop excellent working relationships with managers and help empower them to become great people managers.
• Provide risk-based advice, guidance and coaching to managers on following best practice, policies and procedures.
• Play a lead role in managing key HR projects, business change projects such as restructures, through to supporting on the implementation of organisation wide people initiatives, such as wellbeing projects. This will include undertaking relevant research, and making proposals and recommendations that will enable effective and progressive change in our culture and ways of working.
• Need to have a full UK Driving Licence and use of a car for business purposes.
• Need to be able to apply for enhanced DBS clearance.
• Need to provide evidence of your Right to Work in the UK.

Recovery Support Workers, Waking Nights (Mental Health) - Recovery House 

Location: Birmingham, West Midlands 

Salary: £24,570 per annum 

Hours: 38 hours per week (9.5 hrs per shift x 4 nights) 

The Recovery House is a brand new, exciting, and innovative service for Birmingham Mind and is an opportunity to create a flagship standard of support and care for those in mental health crisis. The Recovery House is commissioned by the Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust and is part of their Urgent Care pathway. Working closely with the Recovery House Team, the role is pivotal to the effective and safe delivery of the service. 

About the role 

The Recovery Support Worker (Waking Nights) will work as part of a team in our regulated serviced and is an important role to the delivery of recovery-based and prevention services within Birmingham Mind. The post is central to providing 24/7 support to users of the Recovery House. This role is specifically to provide evening and overnight staffing for the Recovery House service. 

You will support the Waking Night team in providing a continuous and safe delivery of support and always ensuring high-quality and person-centred care. You will ensure that compliance and adherence to CQC standards is upheld and provide appropriate information to managers when requested. 

You will work in a person-centred way alongside colleagues and NHS clinical partners to de-escalate mental health crisis and help service users to return home. You will be pivotal in the provision of a welcoming, calm, and safe environment. 

About you 

You will need to be skilful in quickly developing strong relationships with users of the service and able to support the de-escalation of crisis and the provision of a calm and supportive environment, delivering person centred interventions. 

We are looking for someone who is experienced in the delivery of services to CQC standards in a regulated residential or supported living environment. Experienced in mental health illness, either personally or professionally, you will have previously worked in partnership with key stakeholders and partner organisations. 

The successful candidate will have knowledge and commitment to the “Recovery” model of mental health support, be experienced in delivering person-centred care.
