- You will be mentoring a Black or Brown person aged between 10 -25.
- Being a mentor who can relate to their experience as Black or Brown person you will support your mentee to help them to achieve and identify goals, helping to navigate the barriers to inclusion and assist them in achieving their goals,
- With the additional qualities of relatability and understanding, you will develop a trusting, supportive and non-judgemental relationship, by providing emotional, social and practical support to boost confidence and independence.
- You will support your mentee to make social connections with their local community, services or groups.
- You will have fun, as you laugh, reflect and overcome challenges together, igniting imagination, and being inspired by your mentee as you join on their journey to positive change.
- You will be contributing to making the voices of our Black and Brown Youth Advisory Council members, to not only be heard, but to be a reality. They felt that having mentors who look like them brings a different approach, relatability and understanding to their mentoring experience.

You can be that someone in a young persons life that perhaps you wish you had, someone who can inspire, support and motivate a young person who looks like or identifies with you. All you need is time, commitment and your own experience of life, and we’ll help you with the rest.
Commitment
- We ask volunteers to commit to delivering mentoring1–2-hour a week, over a period of 24 sessions. Through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person sessions should this be the required need of your mentee.
- Attend monthly online group supervisions held weekday evenings. Supervisions are a great place to meet other mentors, share skills and ideas around mentoring, hear from organisation who can enhance your mentoring experience as well get support with the challenges you may face
Training
Through our comprehensive training and ongoing support, you will develop skills in positive psychology and coaching style techniques, cover topics including safeguarding, confidentiality, the person-centred approach and the growth mindset all of which will help you to effectively support someone to making steps towards positive change.

- In person sessions will take place near to where your mentee lives, within Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea boroughs.

Commitment

A cancer diagnosis brings extra expense from day one. Every child or young person with a cancer diagnosis has a short-term disability and needs to apply for Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payments (PIP). The forms are long and complex and sometimes families need advice or support to ensure they include enough information to receive the correct level of financial support.
Your empathy, understanding and ability to identify the key information to enable families and young people to claim financial assistance will have a tremendous impact easing stress and allowing them to concentrate on supporting themselves physically and emotionally.
You will be an important part of the team and provide practical support to young people and families completing DLA and PIP forms which can seem lengthy and daunting to young people, and families. Each family’s needs are different, however support via benefits such as DLA and PIP are usually one of the first recommendations made to families seeking financial advice.
What you’ll be doing:
- Providing face to face to support to families of children and young people with a diagnosis of cancer
- Actively listening to families and asking relevant questions to enable them to identify specific support needs
- Supporting families to complete complex forms to enable them to claim DLA or PIP
- As a key part of the team recognise when to ask for other team members for advice or support
This will include:
- Looking at the DLA/PIP form with the family or young person
- Explaining the information Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) needs
- Coaching the family to include as much detail in their answers as necessary
The practical support required for this role will vary from taking the time to read through an application with a young person or family, who require a second opinion. Others may require questions to be re-phrased to simplify them and make them more applicable to their lived experience.
You will be providing guidance on how to answer the questions on the forms and useful information to include. It may occasionally include filling in the form with the family/young person when they are not able to complete it themselves
Booking slots will be flexible to meet the individual need (30 minutes up to 2 hours)
There is scope and opportunity in this role for development into supporting families or young people with appeals.

We provide free games and activity sessions with tailored support for children with additional needs and disabilities. We support over 100 children, known as our ‘athletes’, with a wide range of additional needs, including autism, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, and global development delay. At KEEN London, we strive to use fun and games to improve young people's wellbeing, personal, social and emotional development as well as broadening experiences to increase skills and confidence.
During a typical KEEN London session, you’ll provide one-to-one support to an athlete, helping them to access all the activities on offer, achieve their personal development goals, and of course have tons of fun! You can expect to get involved with a wide range of playground games, ball games, nature walks, and creative activities. From time to time we also run trips for our athletes, and previous trips have included trampoline parks, high ropes courses, pedalo boating and slime-making classes.

This volunteer role involves being available for a mix of weekly drop-in IT sessions in which you will provide ‘floating support’ as well as pre-arranged one-to-one sessions in order to help clients complete more specific tasks relevant to them.
Digital Inclusion provides a crucial resource, helping people to take positive steps to improve their lives, by overcoming digital exclusion, accessing learning and securing work. In an average session, clients undertake independent learning and tasks, such as; completing searches on the internet, formatting documents and using email, paying bills, filling in forms etc
Increasingly, clients are asking for help with social media platforms, such as; logging into Facebook account, creating a LinkedIn profile or Instagram account to promote their business, or help with blogging.
How does this role make a difference?
All of life’s activities - including job seeking, accessing and managing benefits and housing - take place online. Clients without IT skills are hugely disadvantaged. This role provides clients with support, helping them to overcome initial fears or learning barriers. With increasing confidence, they will be able to access the internet independently.
Who will you be helping?
Users are adults from diverse backgrounds and can range from those who are complete computer beginners, learning the basics of IT, to those needing access to the resource for learning, job search or managing household finances. The service helps clients seeking to address digital skills gaps and improve their confidence in order to access the internet.
What will you be doing?
- Meeting clients and carrying out weekly, one-to-one coaching sessions
- For the remaining time, offering ‘floating support’ to other clients, such as completing searches on the internet, formatting documents and using email
· Helping new clients to complete an IT Initial Basic Skills Assessment
What are we looking for?
- Although advanced technical skills are not required, a good understanding of MS Office (Word and Excel mostly) and a breadth of experience in using the internet are essential in order to coach and help vulnerable clients develop their skills.
- The confidence and willingness to work closely with clients and actively approach them where required.
· You have some experience assisting or coaching others.
· You are patient, a good listener and have the ability to motivate others.
· You are available for a period of at least six months to give you time to develop a rapport and fulfil learning objectives with the clients.
What is the time commitment?
We are looking to have open access sessions for clients twice a week, days will depend on your availability. one-to-one sessions can be arranged to fit with these days.
We are asking for a 6 months commitment to enable you to build trusting relationships with clients and develop in your role. Volunteers find this goes very quickly!
How will you be supported?
· There is ongoing support by the Learning and Employment Manager.
· Free access to a range of e-learning modules on the Centre’s online e-learning platform
· You will be reimbursed for reasonable and agreed ‘out-of-pocket’ expenses such as travel, and also lunch if volunteering a full day.

What is the Best You Can Be Mentoring Programme?
The Best You can Be Mentoring Programme is a community-led initiative supported by the Mercers fund. It aims to engage young boys and girls from the ages 9-18 years of ethnic minority backgrounds living in or attending a school in Hackney, in a 12- month mentoring relationship.
The programme focuses on three key areas:

Activities might include helping with homework, helping students with reading, writing, maths and science, life skills, understanding the working world and sharing skills and experiences, playing a board game, financial literacy support, CV writing, writing an article for the mentoring magazine and group trips to places of interest.
Note: Mentors must be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check and a comprehensive mentoring and safeguarding training programme before being matched with a student. The ACS will cover the cost of the DBS check and provide training.

This is an exciting opportunity for a volunteer Musical Director to work with our talented and enthusiastic company of young people for the academic year September 2024 - July 2025 to put on Matilda the Musical JR, with two separate casts.
A Brief History of the Spa Theatre Company
The Company was initially founded in 1982 as a young people’s group. From 1982 to 1991, the group remained as a young people’s organisation (the upper age limit being 18). In 1991, the view was that the Company should be more ambitious, by lifting the age limit. As of today, the Company retains the Junior section, but the Senior Company is on hold.
The MD Position – Junior Company
The role advertised is that of MD for the Junior Company.
The Junior Company is primarily a “teaching” organisation. Its primary aim is to offer a high standard of teaching in speech, drama, music and dance. It has its own Director, Musical Director and Choreographer. The academic year consists of three terms, commencing in September each year. The academic year includes a public performance of a musical at a local theatre, usually in April.
It should be noted that the advertised post is for the Musical Director of the Company, for an entire academic year, and is not a “show only” post. It is intended that the post will be permanent, subject to a high standard of performance, reviewed on an annual basis.
The Commitment
The members of the Junior Company are aged 8 to 17. Entry is by audition. They meet on Tuesday evenings during term time between 6.30pm and 8.30pm. For the annual production, we may need to call for additional rehearsals on Sunday afternoons between 2.30pm and 5.30pm. These rehearsals will take place for typically 6 Sundays in a year, with the timing being dependent on the date of the show.During show week, the expectation is that the production team will be present for the full week, from 'get in' to 'technical rehearsals', through the shows and for 'get out'.
Key Attributes
The Musical Director must have the ability to coach and train young people of varying ability. They must be flexible, and adapt teaching styles.
Candidates must be, or become, DBS checked and it would be helpful if they had been teacher trained. The Tuesday sessions must be well planned and prepared, and candidates will need to work well with both Choreographer and Director. It should be stressed that the youngsters gain educational values on Tuesday evenings and that they must be in a learning experience situation.
Duties
The MD will:

have keyboard skills in order to take rehearsals
-
understand that most of the children cannot sight read and therefore need to be taught by rote
-
have had experience conducting a band of musicians
-
have the ability to make cuts in scores and how to deal with transposing instruments
-
need to demonstrate that they have voice training skills and understand vocal techniques
-
need to demonstrate an ability to relate to all ages and to show enthusiasm and encouragement
-
need to audition accurately and be able to choose audition pieces (for future shows) from scores and identify potential soloists for specific parts.
The duties, organised on an academic year basis to suit the children will comprise:
-
attending weekly training sessions, on a Tuesday evening in a school in Warwick, from 6.30 – 8.30 during school terms only (for the purposes of general training of the junior members). This will typically comprise 36 sessions over the course of the academic year;
-
teaching a relatively mixed range of ability, so adapting teaching styles, by rote if necessary;
-
preparing children for a “showcase concert” to demonstrate to parents what the children have learnt – but children often perform things they have learnt outside, e.g solo guitar performances, or a dance;
-
acting as MD for the Junior Show, generally held in late May / June / July of each year;
-
helping the Director and Choreographer of the company to choose the show, and preparing audition pieces from the score;
-
helping with auditioning and casting for that show;
-
assembling a band / orchestra for the show (typically a 4 piece band with the MD acting as conductor or taking the piano part as well);
-
doing musical cuts in the score in liaison with the director;
-
receiving band parts (the rights are applied for and received by the committee) and returning the band parts to the rights holders after cleaning any markings made.
Remuneration
The Spa Theatre Company is a Registered Charity for its work in the tuition of young people. This is a volunteer role, with a small honorarium.
The honorarium for the post is subject to negotiation and will be related to the experience of the candidate, it is expected to be a fixed amount up to a sum in the order of £1,200, paid as a single instalment at the end of the Summer term. The Committee reserves the right to adjust the fee proportionately for unfulfilled sessions and unexplained absences. The sum is paid tax-free, as remuneration for expenses.
Supervision
The committee is considering retaining the services of the existing production team in a part-time supervisory capacity, again dependent on the experience of the candidate. The newly-appointed person will benefit from that experience, but the detailed arrangements will be discussed at interview.
